I just wonder if the Travel Insurance will be sufficient as there is just my wife and I, i.e is it the same as applying to one of the travel insurance web sites. Thanks Ron
My MBNA card included free travel insurance but I have just been notified that it is being withdrawn in November "due to low demand". It also says "Travel accident, Travel Inconvenience and Lost Luggage Insurance was provided for travel bought on your card. However, cover was limited to specific emergencies and was never intended as a replacement for fully comprehensive travel insurance."
It required ALL travel fares for any trip to be paid for by the credit card.
I think it's important that you read the summary of cover that should be provided (mine came with my credit card) and the booklet required that you read it before activating your card. [It was also for purchase protection and payment protection.]
Can't say that Capital One will be the same. I never relied on the MBNA cover and took out another policy. Also, if you rely on Capital One's travel insurance only you would need to check with them if there are medical conditions to declare, non declaration will void the policy if a claim is made and it's linked to a pre-existing condition that wasn't declared.0 -

I've purchased my flight (in March 2007), but I'm worried that I might not be able to travel.
I'm flying on Friday and it is Monday, so if I purchased an insurance today, would this cover me on Friday?

MBNA are discontinuing Travel insurance, they are also discontinuing purchase protection. In the event of purchasing something from a company who go into receivership after goods ordered, but before delivery, we will be liable to pay the bill anyway. This was quoted to me by MBNA this morning. They are still advertising this service on comparison sites. Does anybody know if any of the other companies are following them?0

Eh? Travel insurance is optional but some purchase protection is automatic and in law. If things go wrong the credit company are equally liable to the shop (although they frequently try to avoid that).
Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1977, the card issuer is "jointly and severally liable along with the supplier for the supplier's misrepresentation or breach of contract." Under current rules, people have the right to their money back from credit card companies if they use their card to buy individual goods worth between £100 to £30,000 (If my info is still up to date). Going bankrupt is one case where this is true, I know, I have been there and got my money back from the credit card company, AFTER I quote the law at them twice, 2nd time in 14pt bold so perhaps they just need glasses!0 -

Surely you should have purchased your travel insurance as soon as you purchased your flight in order to be covered for any eventuality that may arise to cause you to cancel. We always purchase our travel insurance as soon as our holiday/flight/accommodation is booked. One never knows what will happen in the months between booking and taking the holiday, that's what insurance is all about.
Are you saying you are unwell at the moment?
If you had purchased your insurance in March 07 and you subsequently suffered an illness that meant you could not fly, providing this is covered by the policy and you can prove your illness (presumably by doctor confirming??? - never had to do it so don't know) then you should be covered.
However, if you are already ill and have not purchased your insurance, ringing to arrange insurance now means that you would have to declare the illness and I would imagine that if you have to cancel Friday's flight you probably wont be covered unless the premium has been loaded to cover the illness. A bit like locking the stable door after the horse has bolted.0 -
What drives me insane is all people want is to pay a reasonable price for holiday insurance and know that nomatter what they will be covered and will not find that if it comes to putting a claim in they won't be covered by some hidden non descript clause :0(
I have searched all over the internet for recommended travel insurers noone seems to advise on decent companies that handle claims fairy :0(0 -
Can anyone spot an age limit on the capital one card travel insurance? Unless of course the application doesn't accept over 65's. There also doesn't seem to be anything about pre-existing conditions either, unless I have missed it.0

Using the link posted earlier which takes you to Capital One's website, looking through the summary box for the insurance policy there doesn't appear to be anything about age and neither can I see anything about pre-existing conditions so I don't think you've missed it, the information just doesn't seem to be there.
However, it does say Please note you will receive full terms and conditions of this policy with your credit card agreement. If you would like to receive a copy now please call 0800 952 5452. So it might be worth a free phone call to find out.0 -
