owsaboutthatthen wrote: »Hi can anyone help - i'm after a cheap travel insurance quote - my mum (55) and her partner (62) are travelling to Spain end of Sept. However my mum has asthma and her partner suffered a heart attack two years ago and also has diabetes. I'm not sure whether it would be cheaper to get insurance for a single trip or annually and also which insurance company would insure their medical conditions? They aren't undergoing any treatment at the moment at the hospital/doctors.
I recently asked on another thread (Travel Insurance for pre-existing medical conditions) as my husband has medical conditions to be taken into account which were causing massive loading with other companies. We had been quoted between £241 and £893 for a worldwide policy.
Thanks to a recommendation by another member we contacted Columbus Direct on 0800 083 9503 and they have given us full cover for £77.82 :T which covers both of us, worldwide, annual multi-trip and medical conditions. For us the annual policy worked out cheaper with the added bonus that we can go on further holidays if we so wish within the 12 month period. We are 60/59 so your mum and partner will be OK up to age 65.
They told us that how they work is they only take into account any occurrences in the last twelve months and anything previous to that which is declared is made a note of so that those are on file and covered if anything apertaining to them arises.
Give them a ring, free phone call, and see if they can help.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi. Apologies in advance if this particular topic has already been covered.
I arranged for my partner and I to visit some very dear friends in the US and then found it impossible to get travel insurance for her because she has a terminal illness. Her consultant said she is fit to travel but no-one would consider giving cover for her (not even the specialist cancer insurers). We lost the cost of the trip and the whole episode has depressed her so much because, as far as the insurers are concerned, she feels that she may as well be dead already.
Has anyone had similar experiences, but been able to find someone who would be willing to provide cover?

Hi RobN,
Just opened the A&L account 2 days ago and was told that the Free Travel Insurance (single person) 'offer' still applied but don't get the docs for a couple of weeks.
If anybody wants they can quote my account and call me their friend so they/I can get the £25 bonus too!!!:jMy travel insurance is free! :j
When I got myself an Alliance & Leicester current account, not only did they pay me for switching, paid my girlfriend for recommending me, paid me for recommending a friend, and gave me an excellent (market leading?) interest rate, they also furnished me with free multi-trip worldwide annual travel insurance. Each trip is limited to 30 days, but there's no limit on how many trips, and no total limit on number of days.
I've been through the terms & conditions with a fine toothcomb and read all the small print and I haven't found a catch. It appears to offer as much cover as most other annual travel insurance packages, and more cover than many.
I'm a bit perplexed as to why Martin hasn't mentioned this insurance in the article. If I've missed it, I apologize. If I've missed a catch in my travel insurance t&c then please let me know asap!!
Edit: I just had a quick look on the A&L website. It seems maybe they don't offer this as an incentive any more. I think I'll check if and when my cover expires before I next go away. :undecided0 -

I'm travelling with my 3 year old son to New Zealand. Do I/should I get family travel insurance or will he be included on mine? I can't find any information about how it is usually done?
you should check if he's already included under yours an a dependant child/toddler.... if not, you may be able to extend your insurance to include for him, depending on who you're already insured with. if not, shop around for a family policy.0 -
hi all I did post on the insurance forums but got no replys so hope some one on here can give me some answers,I live in N/Ireland ,but sometimes fly out of Dublin to the rest of europe (a lot cheaper)but I was told ,when I brought travel insurance it didnt cover the flight from Dublin, didnt believe it so ask a few insurance companys about it and the replys were that "I would not be covered for missed, delayed, cancelled ,ect, ect on the outward part of the trip" as they are telling me I would have already left the UK.Can anyone please tell me what kind of policy I would need to cover a flight from another european country,I did try the airline (aer lingus) but its only saying about leaving the uk ,nothing about flying from another country.
it would firstly be based on your country of residence...so NI would fall under UK.... If you're leaving NI for Dublin, you'd be considered as having already left your COR and on nyour journey, so the trip from Dublin to destination would be classed as a trip within a trip rather than a connecting and some insurances wont cover this. you culd try www.biba.org.uk or search online for specialists.0 -
Hi!
This is complicated, but I have tried reading the wording and small print of all the insurance but I dont quite find it...
Basically, my wife needs an operation in Italy on September 10th. We are flying out on the 9th with easyjet. Now it has occured to me..."what if the flight is cancelled or severely delayed?!?!?!?" Will the insurance pay out for the cost of delaying operation etc?
Or should I take a safe bet and fly 2 days beforehand?
if you're travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment then any claim directly related to it would be excluded. If it were the case that the op was re-scheduled or a complication arose, or had to stay on longer as a result of complication in op, nothing like that would be covered.
and no, travel insurance does not provide compensation, not in any form of inconveniece, or the op having to be re-scheduled, etc.0 -

it may be the case that the illness may be excluded but cover in place for everything else. you could contact BIBA www.biba.org.uk or your partner's consultant to help with finding contacts for you (if you havent tried already).0 -
Can anyone advise? I have a friend whose family and her are going to be away tripping to the states and canada next year for about 1 year. I thought I was a bit savvy myself but after all the calls I have made I am not sure! Do they need single trip cover for one year (worldwide) or do they need annual/multi trip? What I think i know is that the multitrip seems to cover up to say 120 days only so thats no use. Backpacker/gap year insurance sorry, don;t seem to get a good price. Just waht is it I have to do please?
