i'm currently looking for annual travel insurance for my mum - searching loads and loads but need a bit of advice

she will be taking it out in the next couple of weeks, and she currently is 64 however she turns 65 in january 2008. i know that travel insurance goes up when you are 65 but i'm getting quotes now that are really cheap.

would she be ok taking out insurance now, surely the computer can recognise that she'll be 65 in 6 months or so????

she won't have to pay a higher premium in january will she?

any advice would be gratefully received.

Yes, take an annual policy out now before she gets to 65. It doesn't matter that she will turn 65 during the policy life.

Hello Lisa, It is her age now that matters and if she does take an annual policy (only worth it if she has 2-3 hols a year) it will be a good buy. The best I ever had was with Help the Aged. It was the year before last and cost £118 for two of us for a year despite the fact that I have heart disease. For many years we all bought insurance from Direct Insurance. They were very reasonably priced, backed by Norwich Union (I think) and they paid out in full when I lost a necklace down the sink in the bathroom. It is when she gets over 70 that travel insurance is more expensive or, some companies will not give a quote. If she is well she should get a good quote at 64.

It still upsets me that last year Help the Aged asked me in April if I wanted to renew at a slight cheaper price and I said no as we were going abroad in October. Come October they would not give me the same cover. I would have had unnecessary insurance for 6 months but would have had full cover when we went and could have gone away again in March with no worries.
  • Lisa I hope you have been successful with the recommendations on here and the advice given. My friend was in the exact same position and spoke to https://www.covermytravels.co.uk; they explained if she took out an annual policy she would be covered for the next year. It is the way the system works with annual policies. Failing that there are now companies that are not too extortionate but still would work out cheaper with an annual policy especially if your mum is going away like Jake's gran said 2 or 3 times a year. Hope you are successful in your hunt. E

    Hi!

This is complicated, but I have tried reading the wording and small print of all the insurance but I dont quite find it...

Basically, my wife needs an operation in Italy on September 10th. We are flying out on the 9th with easyjet. Now it has occured to me..."what if the flight is cancelled or severely delayed?!?!?!?" Will the insurance pay out for the cost of delaying operation etc?

Or should I take a safe bet and fly 2 days beforehand?

No, the insurance company will not pay if you are going to Italy for an operation. However, if the flight was delayed or cancelled then they would pay for that, but not for the operation.
  • Hi
I'm travelling with my 3 year old son to New Zealand. Do I/should I get family travel insurance or will he be included on mine? I can't find any information about how it is usually done?

hi all I did post on the insurance forums but got no replys so hope some one on here can give me some answers,I live in N/Ireland ,but sometimes fly out of Dublin to the rest of europe (a lot cheaper)but I was told ,when I brought travel insurance it didnt cover the flight from Dublin, didnt believe it so ask a few insurance companys about it and the replys were that "I would not be covered for missed, delayed, cancelled ,ect, ect on the outward part of the trip" as they are telling me I would have already left the UK.Can anyone please tell me what kind of policy I would need to cover a flight from another european country,I did try the airline (aer lingus) but its only saying about leaving the uk ,nothing about flying from another country.
  • Hi can anyone help - i'm after a cheap travel insurance quote - my mum (55) and her partner (62) are travelling to Spain end of Sept. However my mum has asthma and her partner suffered a heart attack two years ago and also has diabetes. I'm not sure whether it would be cheaper to get insurance for a single trip or annually and also which insurance company would insure their medical conditions? They aren't undergoing any treatment at the moment at the hospital/doctors.
    Hindsight is a wonderful thing
