I have a good friend in the industry who informed me that insurers lose fortunes on senior travel insurance.

Most companies now limit their risk by excluding pre-existing conditions or restricting annual cover to Europe. He says sometimes the banks can be good but recommends I look for the newer players in the market who haven't yet built up a bad claims history and had to put up prices.

I use www.staysure.co.uk and would be interested to see if anyone else has found a cheaper budget policy that still includes most pre-existing conditions.

    Thanks Benny

I'll have a look but I'm worried that you're not reading the small print correctly.

Doesn't it state that the maximum trip duration is 45 days?

Therefore 4-6 months trip duration isn't covered, is it?

Yep, you are right, but who stays away for 4-5 months?

The smilemore Travel Insurance protects you, the first named account holder and your spouse or partner
or children up to 22 years of age if they are accompanying you, on a holiday up to a maximum of
    45 days duration.

We have travel insurance with a Natwest account too: I did have cover with my Lloyds TSB account but downgraded the account and so lost it. I would be curious to know if this is good cover, as it does appear to be having scanned the policy.

I was also curious as to why Martin had not mentioned these policies in his article as they do not appear to be unusual, although they do only seem to come with current accounts that have a monthly fee (unless in credit by X amount).

Any thoughts? This is my first post so be kind!!

Hi there, Im going out to Czech republic next week to undergo IVF treatment!
Is that classed as a pre existing medical condition? Should I mention it ?
    Help!

No, I don't think it's classed as pre-existing. But, they probably won't want to insure you if you are travelling specifically for medical treatment.
  • Just got an email from www.travelinsuranceweb.com and they are offering a 15% discount on all annual policies. Which means annual in Europe for £20 and worldwide including USA for £32

It seems to be an offer for past customers and isn't on their website but if you use this link you get the discounted rate.

    Happy holiday's!
