Flo flo, we tried to upgrade to gold with our Sun holiday but they would not let us on the phone. When we arrived we went to the Gold Reception and they let us upgrade there for £50 and we checked in straightaway.0

Also to add, we ate in the YC when we was last in Butlins and the food is the same as in Coral Beach but with fancier waiters and chairs that are posher but will not reach the table so the kids just ended up spilling food all over themselves. Hugely disappointed because it cost a lot to eat in there, so we'll go to Coral Beach in future where we do not have to worry if the kids spill things. Have been HB before but doing SC this time otherwise you are clock watching all day to ensure you do not miss tea. Also opens at 8am for breakfast and my kids rise at 5 or 6am so I am starving by 8am.
In regards to the apartments, not all of them by the pool are HB as we are staying in there self catering (have requested one next to BB parking and she told us we was in this one on the phone) but there are no other Gold mentioned on my map. It is called Plantation Quay. They did also say that it was First Come First Served with the parking even in Gold.
We have stayed in Silver room which was walk straight in to the rooms, not very nice. Silver H/B Apartment which was quite nice and the Gold Apartment which we upgraded to when we arrived. We were lucky as we got a 3 bed but the sofas smelt really bad. Really bad. I'd say it was more or less the same as the silver to be honest, the TV was bigger and there was a TV in the bedroom and you get a DVD player. But, you have to put £20 deposit PER DVD OR GAME when you hire them. The housekeeping literally tucked in the beds and emptied the bins when they called (not every day) but nothing else. The towels are washed in something funny as when you dry yourself they leave little white bits of fluff all over you so we ended up using our own.0 -
Lol one of the reasons that I wanted gold sc apartment was because although the standard sc apartment was ok I wouldn't sit on the cloth sofa without a sheet over it. I was hoping that the ones in the gold apartment might be better - thought they were leather effect?
We have done sc and hb in the past, will stay sc for Oct break as the cost to upgrade to hb is too much but when booking a last minute break direct hb is often cheaper than sc. I quite like the food but hubby isn't always keen, have only eaten in coral though never in yc.0 -
LOL, FF, that is what we thought too. In general the SC Gold was more or less the same as the Silver. Silver plus will get you a bath and the leather look sofas so maybe consider that option. However, you will have to upgrade on site as they told me when I called to pay that I could not upgrade to Gold on a Sun holiday. I went into the Gold Reception and they called through to the Booking Shop so get there early and go there. Check online the day before you leave to see if they have anything left!!
Whenever you sat on this sofa this disgusting smell seeped out, I could understand if it was just one but it was from both of them. I am almost reching thinking about the smell now. I'd rather have the ones I actually could sit on - even with a cover, than ones that stunk that bad.
I do not think it is worth paying £10 a day for the kids HB, if it had been £10 for us and £5 for the kids then I might well have gone for it. I had wanted to try the YC as it always seemed like you was getting something special but I would not do it again. There was soft lighting and waiters and I was paranoid of the kids as they are messy eaters and they get more down them than they eat but I just felt like everyone was watching and judging and we just wanted to get out.
The food and drink - one the day we ate - is exactly the same as in CB or OD as far as I could see. It is just set out better and it is not so bright and there is not the mad rush. more so because the others were also paranoid about the kids doing something that they go with them when choosing their food, in the other ones a lot of the ids go and get their own foods. We have eaten a few times where it has been heaving but then a few other times when it has been OK, it just seems to be pot luck on that day.
The one thing I would say is to pay and extra £10 to secure a ground floor apartment as my kids loved running around outside and letting off some steam and the downstairs one have patio doors that open onto a green (usually). I was feeding the ducks and birds which would come right to the window and the kids loved it. On the last day I went right outside and there was this huge sign that was on the wall that our block was on 'Do not feed the ducks it encourages vermin'. LOL. Oops.0 -

LOL...we came back from Minehead last week and the leather-look sofas had the same smell everytime you sat on them...it was as though the air that came out of them (as you put pressure on them when you sat down) smelt of this fowl garlic-ish smell....though it was ok after you had sat down, it did make you hold your nose for a minute or so after sitting0 -
Well thank you both, you've put me off the gold with the smelly sofas, seems I'll be better off on the one I had last time and just throw a sheet over it, lol.0

LOL, not just us then. Ours did kind of linger for a bit and I thought it was my husband having eaten something dodgy, he must have thought it was me, it was only after day 2 that I said 'is that smell the sofa?' because I noticed it when I shuffled along the sofa. LOL!! Go for the grotty silver ones and you'll be OK!!0

I am going to Minehead Butlins on 3rd Aug and was wondering about good places to go or visit in the area off the site. I have been before but never know where else to go other than the beach. I have been told the "Hairy Dog" is a good place to take the kids though, anyone got anymore ideas?0
-
The hairy dog is nice but its not cheap for what it is. There is a small town centre which is ok for a walk. There is a railway station with steam trains, might be nice for the kids if they haven't been on one. Also there is a castle a short drive from Minehead, Dunsten castle, and a small village near it which was interesting to have a quick walk round.
Other than that there isn't much there outside of Butlins. We tend to spend our days swimming (Butlins pool is great), walks along the beach, and activities in Butlins - sometimes they have some nice ones where a zoo expert brings in exotic animals for children to see.0 -

Where are the silver sc, are they near the restaurant or the skyline? If they are near the restaurant with the standard I might as well stick with standard the only reason I wanted to upgrade was to be nearer the skyline.0
