anyhow while we are on the subject of butlins, i obviously know what minehead is like as i have worked there, but me and the family have got a sun holiday in bognor in october, does anybody have any experiance of the butlins in bognor, TIA Dave

We haven't been to Bognor either and we love to know what it is like as well. I've been told it's more compact than Skeggy and Minehead so everything is very near to you at all times...but don't know if this is right

hi, we have been a few times to minehead. we have stayed standard, silver and gold half board and also standard and gold self-catering.

when going half board we didn't like the standard rooms because you walk straight into the bedroom fron the front door (no hallway) and the curtains wasn't much so people walk past and see you lying in bed!

the silver half board rooms were very nice.

the gold half board has also got a living area/kitchen with fridge/cooker/microwave which was lovely. if we went again and the price was good i would choose this option for half board because you get to dine at the yacht club or boathouse which has a better dining experience for me and my family.

the self-catering standard is very similar to the gold self catering. the gold was at the front of the complex and mixed in with the gold half-board (the gold are all apartments not rooms). it had the same lay-out as the standard with a few extra's like microwave, large telly in the lounge and a second one in the bedroom and a dvd player and a leather sofa. gold also had towels and a maid service. the standard was at the back of the complex and had a blue uncomforable sofa.

if we go self-catering again we would probably go standard unless it was only a small price difference because we think they are just as good as the gold.

Price it up online and see what the difference is, if theres not much in it I would say go halfboard.

What ages are the children? chances that you won't be in accommodation much as there is stuff for kids all day and night lol.

You do get a settee and small kitchenette in self catering but personally I woud go for halfboard if its not much difference in price.
  • My kids loved half board. They ate what they wanted and as much as they wanted. Personally I hated it it was so noisy. Everyone was rushing and pushing past the table all the time. My kids no exception.
I remember going with my parents 40 years ago. Waiters brought the food to your table. It was so much more civilised. Sigh

Lol hubby isn't keen on half board but I love it. I can have kippers for breakfast which he hates me cooking at home and at dinner I can be as picky as I want about what to eat as it isn't a set meal. I love the apple pie and custard too.

We have been to Bognor last year and this year, we go self catering but we did eat in the restaurant where all the half boarders go and never ever again will I go there. I'm not a snob but it was chav central, kids running around, throwing food around, swearing etc. Perhaps it was just an off night but it put me off for life!
Everywhere else was fine though, we have only ever been to Bognor Regis and I have heard people say that it is more compact than the others but we have nothing else to compare it to! They do seem to be spending more money on Bognor than the others.

We stayed in Bognor last year and were half board...personally I hated the food! I found it really depressing, and was much worse than hospital food. Also, becuse you can eat as much as you want there seemed to be alot of waste going on. I kept thinking of being on holiday in spain or somewhere and eating lovley fresh fruit and seafood! The food is typically crappy British food and I found that it made the whole holiday a bit rubbish. Then again I am a right greedy mare who thinks about food alot and my husband and kids loved everything about butlins including the food!
