Now you are showing your youth :)

Use kids of the 60s were often given a spoonful to keep us regular - its a laxitive.

Most chemists now sell it behind the counter because of the old wives tale of a spoonful in orange to bring on a labour

Sorry  I'm an 80's kid... I've never really known of castor oil until now.. lol. Luckily no chance of it bringing on labour but I'll be sure not to drink it now that I know of it's Laxitive properties. :p Instead of Castor Oil... everyone at school used to try and test Polos for their supposed Laxitive effect. :rotfl:

I thought it was just the SUGAR FREE Polos that were supposed to do that - it's a recognised side-effect of Sorbitol (though fortunately I haven't experienced it).

In a "goody bag" from a promotional Dollond and Aitchison contact lens check, I got a tube of sugar-free (that is, Sorbitol-containing) breath mints with the funniest typo on the label I have ever seen. Given the laxative properties, I thought it was great that the ingredients listed an

    ANTI-CACKING AGENT

Yea now I come to think of it, you're right, it was the sugar-free Polos.
I must admit I never tried it out myself, so don't know how effective they were. Lol. Oh and "Anti-Cacking Agent".... sounds like a bit of a contradiction really hehe!

Anyway, still not managed to find Castor oil to start OCM. Only found a couple of Pharmacies around here, one had never heard of it, and the other didn't sell it. Not so helpful. Going to have to expand my search area.
How is everyone else getting on with it now?

I did it twice before the weekend and it was brilliant - my face has survived the weekend away with hardly any skin care and I'm sitting here with my face lathered in the oil and just about to steam it.

It's certainly worth the effort and has made a huge difference to my troublesome skin.

I too would say give the OCM a go.

    Its cheap

    Its not a "faffle"

    It works

    My routine?
Buy virgin castor oild from chemist (ask as its usually behind the counter)
Buy olive oil/sunflower oil mix from sainsburys (cooking oil section)
But two empty plastic bottles from superdrug/boots (they seem to come in twos)

Pour enough caster oil in a bottle to come a third of the way up
Top up with olive/sunflower oil mix and shake
Store the rest to be used another day - faffle all finished for at least 3 weeks:D

Now the good bit - using it

Put head band on to pull back hair (mines long gets in the way and would do no matter what way I cleaned my face)

Cup hand and pour in enough oil mix to sit comfortably in well without spilling
Rub two hands together to warm oil slightly and then use both hands to massage face and neck. Using more oil if needed work away quite firmly with finger tips in the problem areas (in my case nose and chin)

Take a couple of minutes doing this - its really relaxing and quite pleasant

Take face cloth ( I use a big muslin) and wash out in reasonably hot water (hand hot) wring out and place over face to "steam" until cloth has cooled, wipe face, rinse cloth in hot water, wring and repeat untill face cleared of oil (about twice usually)

Now do that three times a week to start. If you see dry patches, top up your oil mix with more olive/sunflower. If theres no improvement - add more caster oil. After two weeks you should see a huge improvement with your oil production decreasing.

This time last year I had terrible reactive, sensitive oily skin. Sine using the OCM I have "normal skin". My skin tone and texture has improved considerably and even my "huge" pores are no longer a problem and are in fact a thing of the past on my cheeks

I still have roseacea and of course I still get a bit of a shine happening after a shift in work BUT not within two minutes of applying make up as it once was. And I can wear very little make up now - most days of late Ive been wearing the avon perfecter ( I couldnt even wear avon before because of sensitivity issues) and a bit of tan mineral and its enough

Suki, can this be just olive oil or just sunflower oik, or do you mean a special mixx???

    Any carrier oil will do.

I chose that mix because its a lot cheaper then olive oil and I read somewhere or other that olive oil does have anti cancer properties.

But sunflower, corn oils will work just as well

Woo! Success!! :T I've finally found some castor oil!!!

I have no idea what the women in the other Boots store I'd tried were on, but I went to another one not far away and the guy went and got it out of the drawer! (Well kinda.... they only had massive bottles for over £10 each... but could order in small ones - £1.35 - which he has done so I'm picking it up on Friday after I return from my trip home)

    But anyway YAY :j

I'll let you know how I get on once I've gotten my hands on it and tried it all out. Hehe.

    Amy ;)

  • Have been out today and found some castor oil in a chemist down the road, he did ask me what I was using it for though.

Am still a bit dubious about it to be honest. as I really am not sure about putting cooking oil all over my face, lol, but am still going to give it a go!!

the only question I do have, is sometimes my skin can be really dry and go all flaky even though my forehead will be like a grease ball.

i sit still OK to do??

Ok, I know what you mean about slapping oil on your face - weird or what?

Now look at some of the very very high end skin care ranges - Eve Lom, Decleor, Dr hauschka et el - all use OILS to cleanse and balance the skin at high end prices.

I used to pay an arm and a leg for a wee bottle of ylang ylang oil which was having some results bit was such a small bottle and cost so much no way could I afford to slap it on and get the results I needed. Castor oil and sunflower oil or olive oil is cheap enough that you can use as much as you want as often as you want.

Because you have very marked combi skin I personally would start with a 20/80 mix - 20% castor oil. Remember its the castor oil that does the drying out so its that that you need to increase/decrease to suit

Try it every second night to see how you get on. Now if the dry areas get drier then top your bottle back up with more carrier oil (sunflower/olive/whatever). If its fine then top up on the castor oil to work the oily areas quicker.

If your skin feels dry after using then just use a wee bit of carrier oil as a mosituriser but you should find that you are fine, with enough of the oils being left behind to do the moisturising.

Dont for get, dont just take my word as gospel. All I can do it pass on my own experience. I heard about this OCM on these forums earlier in the year when someone kindly posted a link http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ and I went from there
