I would just like to thank everyone for their opinions especially Suki's full response on just how easy the OCM really is. I think I will definitely give this a go.

Also after reading what Sara has said I might stop moisturing at night as this possibly could be another reason. What should I do with the night cream I have left as it wouldn't be very mse to waste it

Do give it a try, you really dont have anything to lose and your skin may just thank - you :A

If you do try the OCM, you wont need a moisturiser the nights you use it as the oils will have moisturised your face enough

Mornings, I dont bother cleansing, just the water from my shower and a wipe over does me, then I moisturise. The nights I dont use the OCM I use a cheapo exfoliater - usually Avons botanicals - as a cleanser and then I moisturise as well.

I swear that by keeping to the most simple and ingredient free products my skin has never been so good. I do get tempted by the big names, fancy packaging and rave reviews and Ive often bought - only to be left really disappointed, sore and oily. My one and only luxury for my face is Decleor Ylang Ylang night balm, I used to use the oil daily (very expensive) before I heard about the OCM and tbh the Decleor is just using "posh " oils at a premium price to do what the OCM does for buttons. But I do love the ylang ylang, it seems to work for me and I just love the routine of applying it before bed

Your old night cream - use it on your feet, elbows and ankles at night :)

Just what I came in to say :D

Slather it on your feet at night and pop on a pair of socks... et voila! Gorgeous feet in the morning :T

I too would say give the OCM a go.

    Its cheap

    Its not a "faffle"

    It works

    My routine?
Buy virgin castor oild from chemist (ask as its usually behind the counter)
Buy olive oil/sunflower oil mix from sainsburys (cooking oil section)
But two empty plastic bottles from superdrug/boots (they seem to come in twos)

Pour enough caster oil in a bottle to come a third of the way up
Top up with olive/sunflower oil mix and shake
Store the rest to be used another day - faffle all finished for at least 3 weeks:D

Now the good bit - using it

Put head band on to pull back hair (mines long gets in the way and would do no matter what way I cleaned my face)

Cup hand and pour in enough oil mix to sit comfortably in well without spilling
Rub two hands together to warm oil slightly and then use both hands to massage face and neck. Using more oil if needed work away quite firmly with finger tips in the problem areas (in my case nose and chin)

Take a couple of minutes doing this - its really relaxing and quite pleasant

Take face cloth ( I use a big muslin) and wash out in reasonably hot water (hand hot) wring out and place over face to "steam" until cloth has cooled, wipe face, rinse cloth in hot water, wring and repeat untill face cleared of oil (about twice usually)

Now do that three times a week to start. If you see dry patches, top up your oil mix with more olive/sunflower. If theres no improvement - add more caster oil. After two weeks you should see a huge improvement with your oil production decreasing.

This time last year I had terrible reactive, sensitive oily skin. Sine using the OCM I have "normal skin". My skin tone and texture has improved considerably and even my "huge" pores are no longer a problem and are in fact a thing of the past on my cheeks

I still have roseacea and of course I still get a bit of a shine happening after a shift in work BUT not within two minutes of applying make up as it once was. And I can wear very little make up now - most days of late Ive been wearing the avon perfecter ( I couldnt even wear avon before because of sensitivity issues) and a bit of tan mineral and its enough

I must admit, OCM sounds almost counter productive as it seems like you are rubbing oil into oil... however, I was thinking about this last night... I guess in a way you are almost 'tricking' your skin into believing its over producing oil, so it'll eventually slow down its production of natural oil. Or am I wayyyy off course?

After reading your advice Suki on your routine, I think I am going to give it a go. I notice you've posted last night too, and you've managed to answer many of the questions that I'd come on here to ask. :D (What you did in the days that you weren't using OCM)

Anyway, I have one or two more questions, if you don't mind?
You said that when you start doing it you had to do it 3 times a week... how many times do you do it now in order to 'keep it up'?

Do you think it would work to add a couple of drops of Witch Hazel or Tea Tree oil to have a little more of an antiseptic effect and possibly help calm spots even more?

    Thanks for your help :D

I use it near on daily now but mostly just as a wash - ie I don't sit and do the massage bit for so long - just enough to work off my make up and done. When I first started this regime I was using too much castor oil in my mix and my face became very dry in areas, so using it every other day gave me time to flaff with the mix a bit and didn't let my face become too stressed. Now I have the mix right for me I just use it all the time no problem

Adding Tea Tree or Witch Hazel is going to defeat the purpose - both are astringents.

Keeping the face clean will keep the spots at bay. Im not going to lie and say I never get a spot now - I do, but I don't have blackheads all over my cheeks, chin and nose any more and because my pores are so much cleaner they look so much smaller - less noticeable

For stubborn areas, whilst "steaming" I give a wee gentle squeeze to get the gunk out. It can take a few attempts for areas to loosen enough to unclog so don't add too much force, if it don't come, try again another day.

Now I have read on this board that some people have had problems using the OCM, usually those that have acne. It appears that for some people the OCM make a bad problem worse. I can only report on my results so if you do have serious skin problems, do more research to make an informed decision before trying it

I googled OCM at the weekend and had a read of some other tried and tested methods and there are some great reviews about it so it has made me want to try it more.
Only problem... I couldn't find anywhere that sold the Castor Oil... do you know where I could get it?! Hehe

Try an independent chemist for the castor oil. Many have it behind the counter so you have to ask for it, though I did spot some on an ordinary shelf in my local ABC pharmacy the other day.

    Hi Amy

I have decided to give this a try and managed to get it in Boots. I asked at the pharmacy bit and he took some out of a drawer behind him. It cost me £1.26.

I also have my hubby laughing at me because he thinks its funny I'm going to be putting "chip fat" on my face.
    Did owe £9,951.96

Now helping hubby pay off loan. Finally paid off :j

    Owe Virgin [STRIKE]£5,950.00 [/STRIKE]at 0% til June 2009 £3,427.89. Owe HSBC [STRIKE]£5,460.78 [/STRIKE]2.9% til May 2010 £3,703.07. Owe Post Office £1,676.62 at 0% til September 2010
  • DHC do a cleansing oil - £16 for a big bottle, when you only need about a quarter teaspoon for your whole face and neck. You just rub your hands together then put it on. Then you rinse off with water. Job done. It goes milky as the water hits it and I find there is no residue whatsoever, my blackheads disappeared within a week, the dry bits aren't dry, and, surprisingly, my red nose and cheeks have almost disappeared after a fortnight!

I ignore DHC's '4 step approach', but I cannot fault the cleansing oil.

As I have dry skin in most places, I use a tiny bit of moisturiser/sunblock afterwards, but my skin hasn't looked as good, well, forever!

Oh, and the bloke was a convert - within one wash, all his blackheads popped up to the surface for an enjoyable (for me - I'm weird like that) half hour of extraction!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Hehe Chip Fat. I guess it could seem like that.

I asked in Boots at the weekend, and they didn't seem to have any. I might try at the other Boots in town one lunch time this week. There's a small Chemists not far from where I work, I could try there if not, Or maybe will try Holland and Barratts. Seems a very difficult thing to get hold of! Lol.

  • for oily skin a clay based cleanser is best :)
