She is only learning to read by herself now, so when she takes a book to bed, we get shouted on to tell her what a word is

But that's the point of the rules, she can't call out, you won't speak to her under any circumstances. Don't even look her in the eye. You explain to her before that this is the way it will be and no way do you back down. I said it was tough but boredom puts them to sleep. If she gets out you lead her back, no talking apart from the word bed, the door can stay ajar if she respects you by not calling out.

not very cheap but what about the leappad books http://www.leapfrogshop.co.uk/leapfrogshop/tag_reading_system.html

Have you ever mentioned it to the GP? just in case there is something that could be causing it or maybe they can refer to someone that could help?

Bath - water sends her hyper, so all baths have to be in the morning or afternoon
Hot Milk - she refuses to drink anything hot or warm, has to be cold
Story - she gets one every night, but thats not working
Reward Chart- have one of those too :) Works for everything on it apart from sleeping

Thats the thing though, she does stay in her room, she goes to the loo a few times, but other than that, she doesnt leave her room, just bounces around and talks to herself :rotfl:
I have to laugh, sounds stupid when I put it down in words on here !!
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, I am sure it will get better eventually :o

ETA - we have a leap pad, never thought of using that instead of a book !!

Has anyone ever heard of cranberries or blueberries or from concentrate juice causing problems when passed through breast milk?

Ed has brought back 2 full feeds (one last night 11pm one this evening 7pm ish) and been a bit sicky in between could be nothing but both times I'd had a glass of half n half from concentrate cran and blueberry within 30mins previous, I normally only drink proper fresh juice but couldn't get cranberry fresh on it's on or with just one other juice  and I felt like cystitis was starting so wanted to pre-empt it

I'm shattered, after Ed was sick last night he kept bringing back more than just a dribble of milk so was hungry and upset by the sick, I didn't get him settled until almost 3:30am!! so I had about 5hrs sleep in 3 parts!!

I used to walk my friends children to school and she always prided herself on not ironing... I could tell the difference! I iron all my girls clothes... Even the tiny little babygros if she's wearing one in the day...
OK, so what about by the end of the day? It's how I weaned myself off ironing DH's shirts, when we were first married, just thought about whether they'd look any different after 10 minutes. Of course I gave him the option of ironing them himself if he wanted them ironed. :rotfl:
Then we went into the big Asda... Caitlyn really doesn't like this shop!
I have been through phases where I just can't use some supermarkets, I think it's a combination of the acoustics and the lighting. I avoided going to Asda on my own after I wrapped the car door round one of their bollards. :o
As soon as I passed her over the bellowing stopped! (This was the point I wanted to burst into tears but I held it together pretty well...)
My old HV said that she would never pick up a crying baby because if it stopped crying then Mum would feel a complete failure. And it would be nothing to do with her, just the novelty of someone different shocking baby into stopping! :rotfl:
And on to me... There's something wrong with me... Well.. More than normal anyway... I keep going all wooly headed like I'm drunk, last night when I was really tired the room was spinning it was that bad but it's been a bit on and off today and not quite as bad... And I have little itchy sposts on my chest / arms / legs I'm in two minds whether its bad enough to bother a Dr about or whether I should just ignore it and hope it goes away...:o
When your ears go wrong it's best not to ignore it for too long. ;) (ears = balance) Even if initially the GP says to ignore it a bit longer and see if it goes away!
    She doesnt need sleep :o
Seriously, some children do need (a lot) less sleep than others. The trick is to manage their insomnia ... so YOU can cope.
I know it doesnt sound like a major problem, but she has the ability to make me feel like a shoite mum
Come on, let's hear it again. "I am doing a good job. I AM doing a good job. I AM DOING A GOOD JOB!"

This is not your fault. You are trying to do something about it, so by definition you are not that kind of mum.
I think I wasnt at breaking point untill now as she is now keeping Dylan awake too and not just me and I have had enough.
So THAT would be the problem I would aim to tackle, disturbing Dylan.

If she's old enough to have books in bed, she's old enough to understand that it's not fair to disturb her little brother. If that means no singing, that means no singing. When he starts crying because she has woken him up, make sure she knows that it's HER noise which has done this. Don't protect her from it!

Are they in the same bedroom? If so, can he go in a different room, even if he needs to be moved once she's off? Can you help him become less easily disturbed, a little more tolerant of noise?

And if she calls out asking for words to be read out, then yes, ignore her, but also give her books with pictures rather than words so she can make up her own stories. Where's Wally is one possibility, but we had some puzzle Usborne books which had things to look out for on each page which might suit a younger child.

I shall be in trouble if I don't now go to bed myself ...

    ...:o

    Hope you're feeling ok Krystal.

Me too - I can tell the difference between ironed and not ironed. All of the tiny baby stuff gets ironed (bibs and muslins included - as Sami and MFD are aware!) However, i'm trying to wean myself off ironing the tea towels and bigger childrens pjyamas

My name is 3 and i'm a obsessive compulsive ironer! :rotfl:

OOh - my favorite too! But it tastes too nice, so it's far too easy to drink! :o
I am a first time mum and my daughter Bronwen Elizabeth was born on the 6th July weighing 7lbs 9oz by ventouse delivery.

Beautiful little girl! :D (And another one with a gorgeous head of hair - are MFD and I the only one to have baldy babies )

Well, my little princess is still fast asleep - from 8pm! :T I'm desperately waiting for her to wake up to feed. My boobies are ready to explode (although they do look quite good in a Pammy type way).

A nice lazy day for us today - the first day of the holidays where we don't have to get up and do something, so the bigger two can slob about all day if they wish - while I catch up on the ironing. :D

r.mac I think this is a really good point and I wonder as well whether we are used to jobs and education where there is a feeling of a finished product, a project, report or somesuch. But a lot of the work we do as mums is just as hard, but there's no discernable 'end product' in being constantly available to your child, monitoring her stimulation levels, holding her safety close in your mind at all times... as well as the observables like clean bottoms and milk drunk!!! So I think it is easy then to focus on things with a visible end product, the carpet was dirty but is now clean, for example.

Just something I've been musing on myself these last few months :)

I'm glad it wasn't just me - i think you hit the nail on the head and said it much more eloquently than I did :D

ok MFD, but don't let me turn into an annoying old biddy who keeps trying to show off her knitting!

first I made a prototype out of an old ikea fleecy blanket (the rest of it is being turned into a sleeping bag)

    dsc_0084.jpg

and then I made the suede trousers out of an M and S skirt of mine that was always a little snug even before baby! I used sami's measurements, but slightly more flared and with a bigger bottom because I think cloth takes up a little more room than disposable nappies...

    dsc_0082.jpg

eta Oh and they were both free to make cos the elastic for the waistband was DH's holey boxer shorts waist band. I've advertised on freecycle for more old men's pants but no response yet!

these are gorgeous. I can knit a little (I am a proud wooligan I'll have you know), but can't do anything complicated. My mum made a pile of gorgeous cardigans' for LO and I've sent her off to do some in a bigger size as she keeps growing!!! I wish I was as creative as you. Have you looked at pattern making/dress making/upholstery etc evening classes run through schools in term time evenings? I'm thinking of doing one come september - i think it would be good to do something of my own.
Oh well more bad news regarding my Dad once again he is in hospital after having had a stroke. He went to the optician yesterday with problems with his sight and they did a thorough check and said it was something wrong with his nerves that attach to the brain so sent him to hospital. they said it looked like a stroke. He was sent home and was to go back for a ct scan and other tests. But when he woke this morning he had no feeling down his right side and also had slurred speech so mum called doc who had him admitted immediatly(sp). So will be going into visit him tomoro.

sorry to hear about your dad - big hugs sweetie x
