  • Morning all.

AF - not sure what to suggest. We are going through the same sort of thing here. She was only waking once in the night, had a few days where we managed to get her to sleep through (think it was just eating more food on those days) then we're back to waking 3 or 4 times in the night. It's really draining me.

She has eaten all the breakfast in the world this morning though, so I'm hoping we have an apetite back. The HV has recommended cerial before bed, but sue won't always eat cerial. Need to find a few high-carb type things she will eat so we can alternate a bit more. Maybe an extra snack before bed would help for you? Or could it be the beginning of teething or something?

I just got baby down for a nap, then my Mum phoned and woke her up. Not Mum's fault of course, but now she won't go back to sleep, and won't let me go out of her sight either. Never mind, no washing up for me, but I can have a quick tidy up in here. We are off to our last-but-one NCT coffee morning before I go back to work. Mum is going to meet us there, then take Izzy home with her so I can get on with stuff this afternoon. Plan is to clean the kitchen floor and hoover in here. (Plus whatever else I can get too, obviously that won't take all afternoon, but those are the jobs I have trouble doing with Izzy around!)

MrsT - as the others have said, a bit of formula might be a plan to give you a bit of a break? Just remember - although there are health benefits for BF babies, think about all the people you work with. Can you tell who was BF and who was FF now?! You've done a great job carrying on with all the problems you've had, and you've given her a great start, whatever you decide :)

Have a good day everyone, talk to you all later I expect.

    Morning all!

MotM you seem to have settled in nicely! Its good to have another man about the place :)

MrsT You are and will carry on to do an amazing job whichever way you decide to feed Alex, as you have already been told and you already know!;)

I really need to start meal planning - Im sick of coming home from the shops and not knowing what to cook! ;)

Sami, you get alot of tax credits! I thought we were in similar situations but I dont get anything like that much!

So much more to say I will come back to it though as Im sure madam has left me a suprise in her nappy!

Bl00dy baby hats!!! Whoever uses them  I had half a dozen little outfits with hats plus someone bought me a pack of 4 hats and he wore one once :rotfl: in the hot, hot hospital on his first night! He did look cute though ;)
Don't tell anyone but we used to put a hat on Alice when she was very small because it helped her sleep.

I use Tesco and it's pretty good.

My only gripe is when you buy something on offer, they sometimes sub it with something that isn't on offer and it costs more. Last shop was fine, but the one before, I'd ordered 2 x 4 Crunchie choc ices on a 2 boxes for £2 offer. They were subbed with some Crunchie lollies which were not on offer and £2.99 for a box of 3. I didn't mind spending £2 on a treat for my lot, but no way was I going to spend £5.98 on ice cream so I sent them back :o
I have that problem with Tesco too. One time every single thing (like about 6 different things) which was on offer was substituted and they were only cheaper than Sainsbury's because of the offers.

I also find you get dented tins with Tesco.

weezl - you're right - I have done a great job so far and if formula is going to save my sanity then it may be that we have to consider it... I just don't want to... I love it when she's nursing nicely and all cuddled up to me and munching away happily on a boob... but when I can't get her to latch on for 2 days straight I start getting stressed making the problem worse... She's obviously still getting enough as she still has loads of wet and dirty nappies. But I still worry that she's not growing enough because she's not eating enough :(
    *sigh* choices and decisions...
Have you got the charts for breastfed babies? OH has always worried about this so I used to weigh Alice every 2-4 weeks and plot her weight on the WHO breastfed babies chart. On the regular chart it looked like she had dropped loads at one point but on the breastfed chart she looked fine.

And as weezl said, you have given Alex the best possible start in life. Switching to formula would not suddenly delete all the benefits she has gained from all the breastmilk she has had so far.

I think we'll give it another week and see how we get on before making any decisions... it may be that I buy some formula and keep it for a back up so that IF I need it then it's there - even if I do it to build up a bit of a store of breast milk (she's cleaned me out!) by expressing when giving formula :) Actually I might do that - it might take enough pressure off me to get me mentally back on track too... :)
You might find just having the formula there even if you don't actually use it helps. I know once I had enough of a stock of breastmilk that I didn't need the milk I was expressing the same day I expressed it I found it was actually easier to express as I was more relaxed knowing that I didn't "need" it and that there was something else there if I didn't express enough. Hope that makes sense.

It's actually surprised me just how upset I am at the thought of stopping BFing earlier than I wanted to - you all know how [STRIKE]uptight[/STRIKE] funny I am about certain things. Like the fact I'd never be able to fall pregnant by accident, too [STRIKE]much of a control freak[/STRIKE] organised to let it happen and I think it's coming out in my BFing not going to plan like I wanted it to
I thought I might be a little upset at the thought, but actually I've found myself near tears at the thought of giving up... oh and maybe the fact I hate failing at anything doesn't help :rotfl: I get very competitive with myself over things. It's odd but it feels like I or my body has failed because Alexandra is refusing the boobie  I know it isn't and to be honest it's probably to do with being emotional about it already - but maybe if I'm feeling like this others will be too but don't want to say anything :)
I think an added factor is that the breastfeeding hormones probably affect your emotions too. I know I am more affected by things now I am breastfeeding than I used to (e.g. more likely to cry at films or when I hear about something sad).

I swear I saw some of them in Asda the other day. I certainly saw some and I've only been to Ikea and Asda recently (well and a load of other shops on Friday but it don't think it was any of them!)

.. lots of appointments this week or do you get a bit of a break? :)

Bloods today, usual home visits for jabs this afternoon and Thursday, and a scan at some point - and probably some more bloods too  Really hoping it doesn't have to be every two days tho, poor mite! It dawned on me since I posted before - the jabs are to boost his red cell production so they'll be keeping him on them whilst all these blood tests are going on to keep him topped up :o

oooh, random question, anyone seen any deep rectangular shaped washkit bags anywhere, and one of those plastic clip on things that goes over the head of your toothbrush when you go on hols?

Not sure, but I'd suggest Ikea or eBay :)

Krystal it must be the age  Alexandra is doing something similar - some days she'll feed fine, the next she might do one normal feed then decide that unless 5 doors in the house is open, the dog is upside down and I'm wearing a black bra and pink knickers then she ain't feeding unless it's upside down and I sing the alphabet backwards... *sigh* It's driving me nuts!
If she's not in the mood to feed from a certain boob then she'll kick off and not latch on properly :(
I've taken to expressing again and giving her a bottle... I have to say I'm sorely tempted by going for formula now :( I don't want to but this is seriously testing my sanity now! Hubby bless him says he's happy no matter what I want to do and will support me either way! (luv him!)

Reece does this to me and I knoe exactly what you mean about being tempted by the formula - managed to ride it out a few times already but he's starting to be awkward again and the formula is calling if he doesn't start to behave....

  • Just thought I would post my BF story lol...

As Bella was a C-section my milk didnt really come in, so when we were released from hospital we didnt realise that she was only getting 10ml at each feed. When we got home I was awake for 48 hours constantly feeding, (and crying - due to being tired and sore) When the HV came round and told me that Bella had dropped from 10lb3oz to 8lb12oz I was so upset with myself. The HV wasnt too bothered even though its an over 10% drop in weight but she checked with a Dr and we ended up back in hospital for a week. The outcome of it all is that we decided that I would still try to BF, then express and top up with formula. I contacted my local BF specialist who put me in touch with Baby Cafe, which was a god send. When I went for the first time I thought they were going to be women who were able to get the hang of it straight away.... I was wrong. Every single woman there had struggled with it, it helped me to push on. Now I will admit that I have now given upon the breastfeeding part, but I just decided that it was better that I was happy around Bella than BFing her, as the most I could express after 3 weeks was 60ml and after 9 weeks it was still only 60ml but her formula feeds were going up quickly so after 11 weeks I gave up. But I know that I gave her the best start, and amusingly since she went on to formula only.... she is sleeping through the night. So Bella now has a very happy mummy lol.

If you are struggling with feeding my advice would be find other mums in the same position it helps to have a moan with some one on the same wave length. Take it a feed at a time rather than a week or a month. And if you need to use formula just do it, even if a baby just has 1 feed of breast milk it is still better than none. And do not beat yourself up over it, this is supposed to be the happiest time of your life, start enjoying yourself not hating yourself.:D

    Hope this helps. :o
