Welcome to the other side
I have yet to hear of breastfeeding which isn't 'on demand' or of a mother who doesn't think that it is hard workJust remember when you are sat feeding all evening at 5 or 6 weeks (or 7 or 8 or 9 or 10
) and you are drained and tired and tears are so-so close that we have all been there and we have all gotten through it!
Benjamin is 20 weeks now and BF much less often and not for very long at each sitting and I miss my baby boy
Enjoy Lillia - they grow up so quickly
And I wouldn't worry about rocking her to sleep and not putting her back in her own bed just yet. 'They' say that the earliest time to be thinking about a routine is 6 weeks
MFD xxx
and I rock/cuddle/pat both my boys to sleep and so far had no real trouble getting them to sleepA child that is happy, feels loved and secure usually sleeps fine
PS. placenta gross but interesting!0 -
I've been wondering who these mums are that don't BF on demand, what do they do, let baby scream its lungs out until it x o'clock?

I think it is boll0cks Sami with BF and FF surely you feed baby when baby is hungry?...the only time that I had to point out the 'on demand' bit was when the MWs were telling me to wake Benjamin to feed him in the hospital - like h3ll was I gonna wake my sleeping baby!!please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
We just naturally started putting Alexandra down in her moses basket when she was getting sleepy... she now nods off in it quite happily when she's tired - that or the swing! She does love her swing!!!
The only thing I would say is try not to let her fall asleep in bed with you regularly... that is one hard to crack habit from what I hear(We let her in bed in the morning when she wakes up - roughly about 6 at the moment. She then has a feed, a chat and a cuddle and usually nods back off after half an hour or an hour - I let her stay in bed with me as DH gets up if we have no plans for the day. If we have stuff to do I put her in the basket again and either put her in her room to sleep or take it downstairs with me till I have to go out

Maybe Oxfordshire are more progressive... they never once suggested I wake her to feed her whilst I was in hospitalThey just asked if she'd fed and when and how long - made a note and said call if you're worried - if not we'll be back in a couple of hours to check on you both
Not that I got any sleep... :rolleyes:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Benjamin co-slept with us for the first few weeks (can't remember how many!) then I fed him to sleep in our bed for ages, then I fed him to sleep on the sofa for ages. About 12 weeks something clicked, we worked out what worked for him and since then he goes down in his own room in his own cot awake and sorts himself out.
Benjamin hadn't fed for 4 or 5 hours...if she was feeding every 2 hours or so they wouldn't say anythingplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

Hi Skinty
Proper early piccies there(and a gooey placenta too - didn't see mine, so that was interesting
)
I still feed Izzy to sleep and she is 6 months. More because she falls asleep when she is eating, then doesn't need any more sleep after that iyswim. She will go down awake for my Mum, but if I'm there she refuses without milk. Chheky Madam.Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009
