    Tax credits question:

I'm confuzzled (no jokes please ladies). Hubby earns a salary and commission. Last year he earned too much for us to qualify for any tax credits. However, with the economic downturn this years earning will be less - and we may qualify. However, from my reading, I gather that this years TC are assessed on last years income? Is this right and where does that leave me????

any thoughts help gratefully recieved - the man on the telephone couldn't help as he didn't have that question and answer on his script!!!!

    Hello all, how is everyone?
I'm ok, OH is home and things are getting back to normal.
I'm off out to bingo tonight, mi first night out in AAAAAGGGGGGGGGEEEESSSSS!
I know to some it;s not exactly a night out, but I done all the clubbing scene years ago and it really doesn't hold much interest for me these days.

TBH the thought of going to a nightclub makes me feel scared for some reason, cant stand the thought of loads of people looking at me thinking i'm a big fat tramp :o

Hopefully we are going to Edinburgh for my birthday, if not it will be just after, I cant wait!

AM - I totally understand not wanting to go clubbing (hold no interest for me either...) but BINGO???? I used to get dragged along by my ex's mum as company when her husband would pretend to be feeling poorly to not have to go (sly old fox!) - I couldn't imagine a less interesting evening
I'd rather do something fun like go to the cinema or out for a meal with some girlfriends etc :)

The thought of Bingo is sending shudders down my spine :rotfl:

Yes what you get this year is based on last years earnings BUT if you think/know that this years will be significantly different you can call them and say, "I need to tell you we have a change of circumstance, We estimate that this year OH will earn xxx" they have the response to this on their script ;)
The most important thing here is if later in the year you find that OH is earning more than the estimate you gave them call them straight away to let them know :)

PS. I know this because I've had to do it lots since having Chris

I believe you can tell them that your income is going to be much lower and they base it on your estimate of what your income will be rather than on last years income. They use last year's income because for most people that is going to be a good estimate for what the current year's income will be. If your income goes up they don't change what you get unless it increases by a pretty huge amount (I think it's 30k) but if it goes down they will give you more based on what your actual income was. (They used to reduce your award if you earned more than £3k more but I think it caused chaos with too many people being overpaid and having to pay loads back so they changed it.)

I know the others have answered, but my wage is salary and bonus payments that are variable so my income is never the same. I give an estimate at the start of each year and then give them the correct amount at the renewal date.

I think its a bit less than £3k as I havent received any money off them in over a year and a half as I guessed my income wrong by about £2k 2 years in a row. Also if you estimate yourself under the threshold of basic but end up earning over it, even if that is only a couple of hundred pounds then you will have to pay back all overpayments from future payments.

Has anyone noticed their DD's are hairy?

When Keira was born she had some fuzz on her back, and I thought it would go, but she's 3 now and it's still on her back, and looks quite dark. It's very fine hairs, and I guess it's because she's dark haired it's more noticeable.

Does it go? I don't wanna be waxing her back at 11 because she's being teased about it. Poor lass.

My DD1 is very hairy! When she was born she had a hairy back, shoulder and ears!
Shes almost 9 now, and still has dark fine hair right down her back, a couple of stragglers between her eyebrows and very hairy legs! :o
She's starting to be quite self concious about it already - but I think 8 3/4's is a little young to be worrying about waxing!
She is very dark, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and gorgeous skin that tans after about 10 minutes of fresh air!
(Ex-OH did remark that she looks very similar to a Turkish waiter we met on holiday once!) :rotfl:
