asda used to be tight on waste targets when i worked there, but had clear times when reductions were done on each department

i think it was first reduction at 3, next at 6 and final at 9

9-9:30 on checkouts was a frenzy as i remember lol
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)

I always find Asda more of a frenzy than Tescos for the reduced vultures - Tesco the party trick is to block the entire reduced section off with your trolley so no one else can get in to see what's there, while our not so local (thank goodness cos I hate the store) Asda has elbows flying left right and centre (particularly elderly ladies who ram their baskets into your legs) to get at the fridge.

I rarely bother - there's usually just dross in there to be honest - if there's something I'm going to be buying anyway I'll grab it, or the likes of veg bags reduced that can just go into a soup - but I don't have the freezer space to be stockpiling huge piles of stuff I'll never use... when my grandmother died and we were clearing out her house - her spare room was like layer after layer of geological strata on what was on special offer at Morrisons at a certain point in time... there was the cornflake layer with 10 boxes of cornflakes, digging deeper we found the teabag layer etc etc.

Anybody trying that with me would find their trolley moved out of the way pdq!

Although I usually have a look at the reduced section, I wouldn't take an item to a member of staff and ask (or God Forbid! DEMAND) if it could be reduced even more.
I wouldn't elbow anyone out of the way either - that's plain rude.

I did pick up some Wall's sausages for my friend (I like my sausages with a higher meat content), 8 Lincolnshire (454gm) reduced from £2.15 to 54p.
One guy had about 7 packets in his trolley and I pointed out to him that he'd picked one packet up that was still priced at £1.08 - it was the one I had in my hand trying to read the meat content when the guy came along and reduced them.

What is it about sales and reduced items that brings out the beast in some people?

When an ignorant idiot does that in my local store I forcefully move the trolley out of the way. I find most people, when looking at the reduced aisle are courteous and polite in doing so.

I could read it fine, I don't think the lack of capital letters made it incomprehensible, in either of the two paragraphs. ;)

Me too, no problem reading it.

Is it just me or do the majority of shop staff who post on these boards seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time finding ways to 'get back at' poor customers who have the temerity to set foot in their shops?

I think its the scavs and free-loaders who have got up their noses.

I was in Asda about a year ago, buying a TV when the SA stopped dealing with me to help the chavs who had turned up at my side in search of the free cold meat that had been announced over the tannoy. The supermarket manager in the OP is needed at my local Asda I think.
