Vent: ASDA - Am I out of order or should I be complaining to all and sundry here?

Kinda sounds like 'he said, she said'....
Buit if there's a few complaints about the same store and/or person, then someone may take notice and do something.0 -
So you should be complaining, Adam.
I'm a supervisor in a supermarket and this morning I reduced a lot of items from the chiller cabinets. One gentleman came in and bought almost all of the meat. He does this almost every morning after the reductions have been done.
We don't complain, we're glad of the sales. We'd rather we got something for the goods rather than have them go in the bin.
The manager's attitude stinks. Glad he's not my manager. Mine would have gladly reduced the goods for you, then she'd go on to tell us off for the poor stock rotating and date checking!!
At last a reasonable attitude from someone actually doing the job. Glad to know I'm not the only one who blames the store manager.

I used to work for sainsburys until a few months ago and 1 of the things i hated the most was people coming up to and shoving an item with a date that i was reducing, they would expect me to reduce said item there and then which i refused to do. I would see the same lady who would fill up a trolley with items already reduced and expect me to reduce them there and then which again i would refuse to do.
Id just leave it if i was you OP, the manager is entitled to reduce the stock or just leave it0 -
ive seen this done in sainsburys and the poor girl got such hassle off the person concerned that i was disgusted, i love my 10p bargains but am respectful and will stand and wait for them, the jostling that goes on and the pushing and shoving is ridiculous including people sweeping entire shelves of stuff into there trolleys and it was stuff you couldnt freeze so i have no idea what they would do with it all.'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Is it just me or do the majority of shop staff who post on these boards seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time finding ways to 'get back at' poor customers who have the temerity to set foot in their shops?
It isn't until you go to America that you realise just how cr&p the service is in Britain.
Whatever happened to doing your best to help someone and going home with a smile on your face and a satisfied feeling because you did your job well?
Has that totally gone in Britain today or is it just the folk who post on MSE that are a particularly disgruntled bunch?
Genuine question. However it will probably get rubbish answers from people who want to have a pop at me rather than make a valid point. No probs - happily most of the ones who will do that are on ignore anyway.

I used to work in an Asda up north when I first left school.
We used to have a bit of a game in the store...we'd walk to a random aisle, and start clicking the ticketing gun in the air. Within a few seconds you would hear the patter of approaching trolleys as the professional reduced-to-clear crowd honed in the sound. It was like a pack of lions picking up the sound of a wounded gazelle.
It did irk me to see the same faces lurking around the store for the last 90 minutes. I know there could be a lot of hardship stories behing them, but the impression they gave was one of 'get as much as I can for as little as possible and screw everyone else'.
I've seen people put soon-to-expire stuff in their trolley, walk around with it for 20 minutes (so that no one else can buy it), and then when they see me come out to reduce items, they'd wave it at me and ask me to reduce it. In fact sometimes it was just a grunt, and and a packet of mince shoved in my face.
I've seen reduced items taken off shelves, and then shoved in my face AGAIN with a 'are you going to reduce this any more' gesture.
I've seen people physically block off a whole section with their trolley, just so they have exclusive rights to the reduced section.
I've seen people with their hands poised over items, carefully watching the gun descend, waiting for the moment to grab it before the other person like some mad game of snap, and then physically fighting over it.
My boss got so sick of the same couple coming in that when he went out with the pricing gun for the last run of the night and they put a selection of packets (already reduced a couple of times) down on the shelf for him to reduce again, he picked them all up, took them out back and binned them.
I know in a world of hunger and starvation this seems wrong. But the look of astonishment on the couples face was priceless.
Does this make me a bad person?0 -

I lived abroad for 5 years and can honestly say it opened my eyes to how dismal "customer service" is in this country (across all sectors - not just supermarkets). Can't wait to get out of this country again (counting the days!)

were you refering to me or not, i was given a job to do and would do it, if people were to shove things in my face wanting me to reduce them then id tell them they would have to wait, i didnt have time to waste by reducing stuff that would be shoved under my nose, we were also told to not reduce food if a customer asked could you reduce this for me. I see it being all about politeness, there would be some customers who would actually say thankyou to me for doing the reductions but then there would be others who wouldnt,0 -

no it doesnt, in my eyes you would have been a good person to work with, if i was a member of management id rather see anything going out of date be given to say the sally army or salvation army, food shelters, maybe the pensioners who wouldnt get out much, basically the people who would appreciate it and be grateful0
