I'd be really interested in your home waterbirth experience, if you do get the chance to have one. I would like one myself, although DH is worried and I was wondering if we'd need to warn the neighbours as I don't like pain and nothing short of epidural worked last time.I really love the idea. I don;t know anyone who has had one though. I don't think I;d have a waterbirth in hospital though; doesn't seem so private.
I planned a home birth in water - and it was great :D

It was my first baby and worked really well for relaxation and pain relief. I found labour extremely tiring, but not unmanageably painful. In the end I had a very long second stage (4 hours!) and transferred to hospital where I had a failed ventouse. I then managed to deliver him myself - 20 minutes after arriving. I then had a shower and came home!

I would thoroughly recommend a home water birth.

FE - thats the kinda excuses we've been using too and it seems to be working, but still would have been lovely. Hope you can find a good carboot sale without travelling too far. We may go again this week end as we're feeling good after our first few bargain buys hehe. Also got the same thing going on with shape change, I know it shouldnt be till later, but am deffinatley bigger and my OH said the same thing to me about looking pg lol. Congtrats on the new car, we would love to get a new one but just isnt an option what with finances atm :(

I like the idea of a water birth how ever not at home, and having seen our local hospitals birthing pool (its more of a bath!) am not at all inspired. Hoping to go for an active birth instead.

Nottslass - am craving chocolate most afternoons and evenings as well as getting headaches, not sure if its just in my head though, but like you need to get out of the habit as I'll gain lots of weight and had been so good before getting pg. Good luck finding summer gear, altho with sales on shouldnt be too hard.

Well just got back from doc, was really a paper work excercise. She filled in some forms and I signed them then she asked me which hospital we wanted to go to and told me about next appt with midwife. Tried to book my booking in appt with midwife but nothing available till after my 12 week scan so need to phone hospital tomorrow to get appt with them at a sooner date. Still all ver exciting and looking forward to seeing bean again :D

Hi Somnium - not sure we can really afford it either! But if we don't do it now we prob will be in a worse position next year (after I'm redundant and we have the LO), and we're pretty sure DH's 'old bus' won't limp through another MOT without serious money spending on it! The other side is that, when I make my JSA claim I will have to declare my savings - and now I won't have any to declare haha! 'cos I've spent them on the car! There's also a peace of mind element, as although it is 5 years old it comes with a full 2 year warranty which seems to cover almost everything except normal 'wear & tear', so when we weighed it all up it seemed the best thing to do. Would be happer that he mo' if DH had sold his though. he keeps getting timewasters messing him about! It is a good runner and has 11 months tax & MOT on it, but people seem to expect a rolls royce!!!

Wow Nicki - 9 weeks! Hope you have your bag packed all ready, just in case LOL! So exciting!

Oh - I'm not usually much of a chocolate eater, but last night DH went out and I stayed in and ate half a large bar of mint areo - then I felt really sick (and I don't think I can blame that one on the MS!). Think I'll ket DH have the other half, as I really can't face it any more!

Got a cot bed and nursery furniture still from DS,but I think that I'll get new bedding etc.

Trying to decide whether to have a moses basket or swinging crib for the early weeks.
As for a pram ,I think we've decided on the M&P Pliko Pramette, but there is always time to chance my mind !!!

Any suggestions as to whats popular/useful/or a great buy at the moment would be great.

FE can you add my due date ? 26th January 2010. Thanks

Nottslass what specifically are you after, and what are your requirements?

Pushchair wise am looking at the Maclaren Techno XLR, as I like the idea of baby wearing for dog walking and stuff so PC doesnt need to be Xcountry capable. Also its small and light weight so good for in the house storage and when we pack up for hols or visits to grandparents. It also takes a car seat and carry cot, and as MIL is buying it for us dont feel too guilty at price. Had considered the O'Baby XI too, but as there are no local stockists dont want to risk ordering it and not liking it. As for whats popular, at work it would have to be the My Choices, really nice pushchairs but a bit big for me.

Still umming and arring over car seats stuck between Cabriofix and Babysafe+, not planning on getting the one that fixes on PC as dont wanna be tempted to push LO around in it too long.

Already have cot, was a bargain in sale at work hehe so just matress to get.

Sling seems to be a big research thing atm for me though.

FE - Could you do my EDD too please - 3 October 2009.

I've made all my major purchases now (and my minor ones too I think) :o

Moses basket - left over from last two times
Cot - donated by friend, new mattress donated by another friend who bought 2 for some reason?
Pushchair - Bugaboo Bee. Said I definitely wouldn't have a Bugaboo as they were too trendy and naff, but when I came to look at all the options it was the best for my circumstances because it can be forward or rear facing, is almost as light as an umbrella fold buggy, so good for travelling on tube, is height adjustable for my bad back, and has a really decent size basket underneath.
Car Seat - Maxicosi with an isofix base so it can just snap in and out of the car. It also fits on Bugaboo chassis which will be useful on school run as I have to take DS into playground and wait with him until bell rings. Otherwise won't use it as travel system.
Breast Pump - Advent Isis IQ (electric)
    Monitor - BT 150 - 2 way
    Sling - Baba sling

Clothes from Boots and donated from friends. All neutrals as we don't know the flavour. Bedding from John Lewis. Grobags a steal from TK Maxx. Reusable nappies from nappy lady.

Umm think that's it! Have I left anything out :rotfl:

  • 'Morning All!

Got my date through for first NHS scan - 14th Aug, when I will be 10+5 according to my reckoning. Guess that means they have sorted out their office move due to Swine Flu, so hopedully the MW will have all her paperwork when we go for booking appt (Mon 10th Aug).

Still not decided about OSCAR - had almost decided to have it, swayed by the delay there was in NHS scans (they were coming out at 1st ones 14wks a couple of weeks ago apparantly!), but as I've got a nice early one, then I'll get to see LO again and hopefully be reassured.
It really comes down to 'what would we do if the results of OSCAR looked bad' and I can't seem to get DH to have a serious discussion on that.

Maybe after the weekend when he has (hopefully!) got the car sorted.... this guy has now seen it 4 times - yesterday we understood he was coming with money to complete the deal, but he turned up with another friend, went for a test drive, then said he didn't have cash, could we accept a bank transfer! As I have no intention of giving our bank details to strangers, I said no! All along DH has said 'cash only'. Then it was 'well he can only get £300 a day from the cashpoint, so it will take 3 days to get £700' (as translated by his mate, as the buyer speaks very poor English!). I pointed out that he can go into the bank counter and take out the required amount today in person, as long as he has it in his account (which he assured us he has!), which they didn't seem to realise! They really wanted to take the car last night, so he could take his friend to Heathrow airport today! Not a hope until we have the cash Mate!
Sometimes you really have to wonder...

Hope everyone feeling well and Beans are thriving!

    FE -x-
