My "most ever miles cycled in a single day" record of 60 miles was preying on my mind yesterday, and so I set out to beat it. Went from home (south manchester) through stockport, through Buxton, up into the Peak district, and on towards Leek in Staffordshire, then back again.

Managed a total of 81 miles in just under 8 hours. :)
I think I overdid it a bit though. Lay down for a bit when I got home and got the most incredible cramps in my thigh muscles whenever I bent my knees, felt like screaming. You know the way a muscle cramp comes on gradually? These went from 0 to agony in a split second.

Feel great through. Saw some really nice scenery and it felt exciting and scary (in a good way) to be out there when the storm clouds came over and the rain started....a real incentive to pedal faster and get home ASAP.

5 days to the bike charity ride challenge - 60 miles around a nice, flat Cheshire. Should be a doddle.

Bikey total now stands at 650 miles.

will you please thank the Lovely Mrs Bhb for the offer of a themed character barby, though I guess you will want to come as 007 (YM as Harry Hill indeed :rotfl:) And Dear Lurky gets to be David Tennant. I mean where is the justice :rotfl:I won't say long John Silver to you as it may start your: Parrot allergy off again  and we wouldn't want that now would we ;) Seriously mate good luck for September, I hope you get to where you want to be. Big hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SAS so sorry to hear what a terrible weekend you have had, I hope that you get to sort things out with the one friend who has not been so forgiving? You can only apologise and try to make ammends. Thats why alcohol is so dangerous, it turns normally lovely people into something they are not. Big hugs sweetheart and really good luck for September. Stay positive and do your best. Hugs (()) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Fay hugs hunny and in answer to your question there is NO ALCOHOL IN THE BUDGIE HOUSE :T I am on organic ginger cordial. (thought the organic bit would impress you ;)) Really good luck for September sweetheart and I hope all gets sorted out. Bring on happy days. Hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

40sm and the dream ................... Hmm dreams are supposed to have hidden meaning? I really don't know if you could get that one analysed though? Still poor YM seems to have drawn the short straw against Dear Lurky? Watch out he may tamper with your score, he has the power :rotfl:Btw we still don't know about Eselt's dream  Do you know she has never divulged, I will tell you though I am not teeny ;) (5ft 5) but I do have very small ears :D Hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ok guys gotta go, hugs to you all especially to anyone that I have not mentioned.

I have a tip to stay alcohol free for you all, do big posts and then there is not time left to drink. It works like a charm ;)

    Thanks for all the :hello::hello::hello:

Wow, this thread does move fast! And, eek, eyes are scary indeed. Put me off the bottle of wine in the fridge (which I moved to cupboard to de-chill so to avoid temptation)...

Well, had very healthy day today - and AF day 1. Yipppeee!

  • Hi GP....wow 81 miles.....I bet we saw the same storm as you did...we were on Staffs/ Derbyshire border ! there were hailstones too!.

Well lets think...I think the hail hit me on the way BACK, about 2 miles after buxton on the way back to stockport, so it would have been about...7pm - 7.30pm ish?

I was just hitting the highest bit out of Buxton then, and looking forward to a nice 2 mile freewheel back into Whaley Bridge.

It's a bizarre frame of mind. You're knackered and cold, but it's exhilarating to be 'out there', all alone and exposed the elements, and then the hail starts coming down and bounces off your head and you just think "YEAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The only real downside is (and this isn't the nicest of subjects, I know), but when you're building up a sweat, the salt seems to dry on your scalp and in your hair, and REALLY builds up. So if it DOES start to pour down, the rain suddenly dissolves it all and it runs down your face, into your eyes, and stings your eyes and blinds you a bit, which can be a bit scary.

But as long as you can keep one eye clear...who needs depth perception, huh?
