Hi Miss Piggy - I did it - first AF free day for me for ages yesterday and I feel really good today, so that's 1 out of 4 so far for me (another AF day for me today as well - I'm quite enjoying it really)!!

Also - saved £4.35 on not drinking yesterday (by my claculations) - so feeling a bit better off too - this is great!!:j

  • I guess some people are having a tough day. Thankfully for me, today isnt one of them but hell do I know what it's like when I do have one!! :D
  • Well done Marthasdad - off to a flying start!! Good luck with today..x:T
  • On another note....I'm off on holiday next week and I am absoloutly TERRIFIED of flying. Does anyone have any remedies / tricks / potions up their sleeves. Anything I can ask the Dr for etc? Normally I would knock back 3 or 4 wines whilst waiting in the airport bar but I'm not sure that thats going to be such a good idea as we take off at 6.30am!! I'm so scared of flying and it's just got worse over the years. Its at the stage now, where a week in advance, I'm already thinking about it, lay tossing and turning in bed last night worrying about it and being unable to put it out of my mind.

When I went to New Zealand (I know long way to go for someone scared of flying) on the way back, I went to an airport in the chemist in Kuala Lumpa and the chemist gave me something that just knocked me for 6 and I slept most the rest of the flight. Trouble is, I dont know what it was, some kinda antihistimine I think, that a nd couple glasses wine did the trick.

Just wondered if any you guys had any ideas...??

    Afternoon all!

Thought I would post another update. I've taken off those that haven't updated since the beginning of the month (although I have it saved so if any of you want to rejoin an update you will be most welcome!). Gives us a clearer idea of how we are all doing as a whole (well, I'm doing carp but you get the general drift!!:rotfl:)

Marthasdad - off to a great start!!!

Marthasdad - off to a great start!!!

Thanks Miss P and Gromit 2303 (soz, can't help with the flying thing)!

I worked something out last night - don't know if it will help anyone....

I was/am a habitual drinker - I always start a drink at about 7.30pm - sort of a reward for getting through the day, getting the kids to bed etc. - I'd then have 4 or 5 cans of stella before then cooking the evening meal - I'd often cook myself something cos OH is vegetarian and I love meat too much (more than is good for me in fact) - anyway, I worked out that actually I only spend 1.5 to 2 hours a day actually drinking (I very rarely have a drink after my meal) - so, all I've done is bring the cooking time forward so I'm busy cooking and don't need a drink, then I eat and don't want a drink afterwards - simple (it worked last night and I hope it works tonight as well)!!

I've been following this pattern for about 3 years (drinking every night) and I had a lightbulb moment last week when trying to sort out my finances and realised how much this "habit" was costing me.

So I've decided to be honest with myself - I'll allow myself to have a drink Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but NOT in the week - this way I have something to look forward to - the only exception is tomorrow (hence I pledged 4 days in the rest of August, instead of 5), when a good friend of mine and I are going to the pub for the evening (VERY rare) - his OH is about to have their second child so he's got a pass out and I don't see any harm in that. The way I look at it is you have to set yourself realistic goals - anything is better than drinking 4 or 5 cans of Stella every night and if you can achieve 4 AFDs a week, that's brilliant (hence my pledge of 20 AFDs in Sept)!

All the health advice I see on telly etc. says you should try and have 2 or 3 consecutive AF days a week (to give your liver time to recover).

Sorry to ramble on a bit - just wanted to share my thoughts (must be the AF me, seem to have a lot more clarity about my thoughts)!!?:rotfl:

    Thanks for reading.
