Well here I am again at work.....Last night shift though so not too bad.

Feeling positive about my days off and not buying beer. It is surprising how much further my money goes when I am not spending £6-£8 a day on alcohol . I can honestly say this is the most positive I have felt for a long while regarding not drinking.

Sleep well everyone and another thing this thread has given me is the power to spell " Alcohol" so bring on the spelling test :D

    Night, night

Yeah I can agree with the money thing. I was spending the same, if not more. I worked out it was £400 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easy done when its a bottle of wine (£6) and four cans of Stella (£4)......a day.........and more at weekends.

I was on a massive downward spiral but i'm free now and loving it.

(its only been five weeks but seems like a lifetime)

  • God yeah! Especially if you have a tendency to nip out to the very expensive corner shop to get it - we've got four within a five minute walking distance, all licensed. I only go to any of them in the early morning to get milk or a paper now, or it's just too tempting.

Off to Tesco in a bit.

By the way, morning everyone :).

Was AF on Sunday, and a restrained two Stellas last night, making total 10/14.

YM - I'm up for a big ol' 30/30 in September. Shiny new month and loads to tackle, emotionally, financially and physically. Need a clear head and some energy !

    Morning all!

Well we have a few jumpies on the list now (well done Maman - added today!:j:j)

I've decided on a target for September YM. Now I know I should be going for AF completely but to stop myself getting dispirited I'm giving myself some leeway. So my target is 24. Hopefully should be able to manage it :o

Up early today as OH woke me up by knocking something over in the kitchen at 6am. Sounded like saucepans or something. Amazing how piglet can sleep through that but one squeak on the floorboard outside his room and he's up and bouncing about!!!

Will be AF for the rest of the week as have no money for drink (thank god):D. Payday Friday but still won't be having any as we are spending friday night masking up the kitchen ready for decorating saturday. Such fun. Not. I loathe decorating.

Cazza - like the avatar - took me ages to figure out where they were!:rotfl:

The amount of money we spend on alcohol is amazing isn't it? Obviously don't know about the rest of you, but money is very tight of a month for us, so the fact I use so much of it for drink is really stupid. We budget for everything else, except that! No wonder I'm always broke:o

Anyway, off to get some washing on the line....that'll make it rain I'm sure!

    have good days all!

    Miss P
    xx

I didn't manage to be AF last night: had a bottle of white (well, half each of two bottles) and a glass of red. First day back at work after nearly 4 weeks off. Stress. Worries about whether our department is really viable long term. Worries about how long we can continue as a two income family. Drinking was not a great idea, if only because there must have been oak in some of it and I woke up with a headache in the middle of the night. That will be hormones, and I'm likely to have 3-4 days when I can't handle it. The sensible thing would be to abstain, but that hasn't always happened. I will hang around tonight to try and get through the temptation.

Re the financial cost: it's massive. We rarely buy a bottle for under £7, and at one point the average bottle was creeping up towards £10. At a minimum of 2 bottles a night ... you can do the maths. Right now, we're not in debt but we'd have a lot more savings if we drank less. Certainly, in the past, when we were in NZ, we were spending more than we earned, and the credit card crept up. We paid it off when we sold up and came back to the UK (won't say came home, because both countries are home), and have managed to avoid debt since then, except for our mortgage, which we overpay. My 5 year financial plan needs us to save at least £500 more a month than we have been doing, though, hence the financial incentive to cut back.
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600
    Overpayments to date: £3000

Feeling much better for having no alcohol last night:T. Like, Miss P I am Skint until Pay Day and therefore no chance of buying any tonight.:j:j. Not that I want to ( at the moment)

    Have a good day everyone.
