For those who are struggling at the moment. Give the Allen Carr book a go. It changed my outlook on alcohol and I wouldn't be without out it as my bible now (another crutch I suppose).

It may not be your bag but its another alternative to AA, counselling or whatever.

    Take care

  • Morning all,

Had a few glasses of wine at a friend's last night. However, the glasses were tiny and only half-filled so there must have only been about 50ml per glass - so 4 glasses like that was still less than 1 of my normal glasses!

It was quite good, because it meant I had something to sip but was drinking really slowly and not knocking it back like I usually would.

Miss P - was last night a mulligan and back to AF now? Or are you going to try to do controlled drinking?

    xx
  • Hi Kunekune, welcome. No judgement here :)

Have to come clean about last night, X factor ritual hit me. Been sailing through all week, early nights, head in a book. 7pm - like something out of a cartoon. Just two stellas, in bed by 9pm. No big deal but not what I had planned.

Still on 9/14 Miss P. Can't see me making the target given the week I have ahead.

However as I've stated on my diary thread I need some me time, house is upside and inside out, people coming and going for the last six weeks. Not trying to justify it - just need to regroup as they say. Roll on September.

I drank ginger beer. Sooo tempted to surreptitiously add vodka to it (Mrs Malone was getting quite tiddly, though she has the self-control to just stop when she knows had enough), but somehow I resisted. It has to be one of the most difficult things I've ever done, but this morning I feel great, the sun's shining, and now I know I can get through a booze-laden social engagement without having to drink.

    Well done.:T

Well, I'll pick myself up and start again.

You haven't failed Miss Piggy, you can start again today knowing that you still have so many AF days under your belt.

This thread looks reassuring, in that there are plenty of people drinking similar amounts, so I'm not so ashamed and embarrassed (when someone on an American site I visit said they thought their fiancee was an alcoholic because he had - wait for it - one beer a day, and I doubted it, their response was hilarious).

I remember sitting watching the Oprah Winfrey show and this American man was supposed to have a really bad drink problem and he had a six pack of beer a day (the little cans of American beer that are really low in alcohol.) I remember laughing about it with my sister.:o

I am AF again today, it is taken out of my hands really as I'm not feeling too clever lately. So 8 days AF for me please.

Hope everyone is okay. :A(Very quiet on here lately.)

So here I am on a Sunday morning with a stinking hangover. And I want to stop. I HATE feeling like this. So why can't I just DO it for gods sake!?

Well, I'll pick myself up and start again.

Seems others are struggling too. Hope everyone is ok.

Miss P , I am not doing too good at the moment either ..... I have had a bottle of wine Thurs night, Friday night , Saturday night and I have asked DH to get a bottle for later ( he is shopping athe the moment) .. I was up at 3am again this morning.... drink really disturbes my sleep ....then I feel carp all the next day and the whole cycle begins again. :o

I must admit that I can't be bothered to fight it at the moment :o:o but really hope to get back on track once the kids are back at school. I CANNOT do the school run if I am tired and hungover.

To make matters worse ...... I cannot really afford to buy wine everyday. We are on a very tight budget with school uniforms, DS2 birthday coming up , MOT on both cars, my car tax ( just remembered that one:eek:.... must do online tomorrow.)

Hugs to everyone struggling.. It is not easy is it . ... especially when I read magazine articles about stressed mums needing " me " time and what do they suggest to help .... YEP ... a large glass of wine.

    Sorry to ramble on.

Have a good Sunday. The weather is glorious.:T

40SM - I know where you're coming from. I most certainly can't afford to buy wine...and yet I do.. This morning I realised that £10 could have bought another present towards christmas. Its really annoying. I also sleep like carp when I've had a drink - more-or-less a coma for the first couple of hours then tossing and turning for the rest of the night. Why do we do it!?

GG - I'm definately going to try to stay AF. I just cannot seem to do controlled drinking!!

  • Well I'm with you both on the spiral that it is new school term approaching, car expenses, approaching birthdays, just like a month free from any expense or input from me so I can get back on track, financially and emotionally !

Hi everyone - there's 30 pages to catch up on!! So a quick hello then will off to try & do so.....

Great hols...way too excessive on the you-know-what, & today, but will be bright new shining star tomorrow. Back to work, yeuch. Typical Wales - whilst the rest of the country had the hottest day of the year on Wed (?) we had 18 degrees & rain.

Had a "c-list" birthday - cod'n'chips for lunch, champagne, cava, chardonnay (in that order), chicken curry for dinner, then chocolates (coffee creams!) & coffee.

Shame about the toast for breakfast, should've been cereal......

Needless to say now a supersized wb. Diet & af tomorrow!!

Whilst we were away our mate Sid was the victim of ID theft. Now we just call him S :D:cool:

    ^ Not the jokes again!:rotfl:

(Sorry if I already did this joke on here.:o)

Joe and Dave are hunting when Dave keels over. Frantic, Joe dials 999 on his cell phone and blurts, "My friend just dropped dead! What should I do?"
A soothing voice at the other end says, "Don't worry, I can help. First, let's make sure he's really dead."
After a brief silence, the operator hears a shot. Then Joe comes back to the phone. "Okay," he says nervously to the operator. "What do I do next?"

I wondered what C word it was going to be!:D Welcome back WB.

I am suddenly thinking hmm I'm not feeling too bad now I could have a glass of wine. For heaven's sake I'm so annoying.

Miss Piggy - don't update me yet (but then I definitely won't be drinking tomorrow as I have something important Tuesday morning.) I will report back later.:o
