    hi all
Long time not been on - been away and busy and that but no excuse really. Been continuing going to AA meetings and haven't had a drink now since 2nd June. Not that I've not wanted one, but AA has helped me beyond belief. I have been so surprised at it, what with the stigma it holds for some and also some aspects of the programme that refer to god, but I've found that it's just not like that and is utterly fabulous!!

Hugs to all, especially those struggling or feeling down.

Whether AA will help me reach my goal is an unnkown,
It's down to each of us to make that change and it's a hard, hard road to travel. And I am as ready as I'll ever be, to get my walking boots on :T

2 years since my first meeting and I still have my boots on!

Seriously - well done..I'm REALLY pleased for you. It's not a fix, it's hopefully the start of the way back.

I was in floods of tears on my first visit as I saw what lay before me and and I owe where I am now, in part to the welcome I got when I went.

And yet, although the first part wasn't easy, feeling I was doing the RIGHT THING FOR ME made it so much better.

P.s. I take my boots off just before I go to sleep!

The road is still there the next morning...but at least my head's clear.

    take care one and all!
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007
  • Hi everyone especially the newbies. Don't think I can remember another day with so many all in one day?

Well, we sent off FIL in style today. His style :D . An old relic of a tractor escorting us to the crematorium (he was a fan of vintage machinery) followed by a 'shindig' at Mrs BHB's brothers house.

All went well and was strangely a 'bit of a hoot' as I described it on the way home (just the way he would have liked it), though I was disturbed by the amount that the 'Essex boys' and especially the 'Gals' can drink. And they were drinking like a 'normal Saturday night' type thing.

I was driving home, so was 'people watching' and the ONLY one not drinking out of about 30 people. Blimey Jo - these essex girls can knock 'em back. Most of them had 2-3 bottles of wine under their belts within an hour and a half  .... and here is me worry about 3 cans of beer a night. And as for the lads - I would have thrown up after about 20 minutes

    And I thought I had a problem. ( I do ...... I know :o)

Anyway - I have a few small bottles of beer to raise to the old fella tonight so will let you know how bad I have been in the morning Miss p ;)

    Hope everyone is ok

    Evening peeps...

Very quiet on here this evening... must be the gripping tv....!!!

Miss P, my wheels have well and truely fallen off this month.. apologies and if you want to delete me from the August targets feel free... I am confident that come September normal service will be resumed.. My working week is up in the air with the school holidays, i'm in/out and shaking it all about.. different hours/days.. overtime evenings yesterday and today... So i'm reducing one of my stresses by coming out of the August Challenge.. I will be back in September and am looking forward to my hols next week..

Welcome to all the newbies, and hi to all the cutter downers.. i'm still with you in spirit.. well actually I don't drink spirits.. but you know what I mean...and hi to the giver uppers.. hope your wagon wheels.. yuk hated them...! are firmly fixed and you have comfy seats...

Will still be around, just not playing for this month...

Hugs to those who want/need one. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If I am having a bad day, I can always start it again from the point I decide not to feel the way I am feeling.
It may be half way through the afternoon, but I can rid myself of the feelings of self pity and choose to make the rest of the day a success.
This month is not half way through. Targets can be adjusted, it is still possible to do 20 days AF this month from now!
    Give yourself a big hug.
Not drinking was never too stressful for me (though I wasn't good at it:o) - it was drinking and all the chaos, unmanageability, etc that ensued that was stressful. I never felt guilty if I hadn't drank.
I realise now that nothing apart from myself poured the alcohol down my throat. Sure, I blamed everyone and everything, though it was my decision to drink and my decision alone.
It's isn't like that now - I am responsible for my feelings.

  • Just to update - I successfully ignored the wine - so 6/20 for me.

It's interesting being sober and watching others drunk isn't it billy- always makes me aware of what I must be like

Dee - don't beat yourself up. It is just one day and tomorrow is another. Just promise yourself you will have 1 Af day - then you go from there. Hopefully there is no more drink in the house now as that makes it really hard.

    good luck
