  • A very warm welcome Samandsheryl, glad you have posted.

I'm quite a newbie here and I've found it nothing but supportive and insightful and helpful. I wish I'd found it sooner.

I'm also trying to quit the demon drink altogether. As you will have seen from my previous mega-post (!) I went to my first AA meeting last night. It was totally my decision to embark upon AA, but after numerous attempts at sobriety, I honestly felt I needed to try other avenues.

Whether AA will help me reach my goal is an unnkown, but I've learned so much already, from the people who post here and even from my one meeting last night.

It's down to each of us to make that change and it's a hard, hard road to travel. And I am as ready as I'll ever be, to get my walking boots on :T

Hope this site helps you on your own journey.

    Hugs,
    Caz

  • Thanks very much. (Sorry i posted twice before, didn't think the first one had posted!). I rarely drink during the week but have got into the habbit of drinking 8 to 10 pints on a friday and saturday night. When i get drunk i become aggressive, loud and disloyal and i hate it so much that i really can't handle it any more. On Sunday i got so drunk that i really can't remember what i got up to other than i woke up Monday morning surrounded by sick and in a separate room to my long term partner. The biggest problem i'm going to have is that all of my friends like a drink, all of my football team mates like a drink and all of my family like a drink. I'm surrounded by people who's lives revolve around the stuff. However, my partner hasn't had a drink in almost 3 years so if she can do it, so can i.

    Well Done Caz.

And very brave having to 'find' the venue first. First step taken!!

    :j:j:j
  • Wow - well done Cazza, thats one heck of a step!!

Well I only started posting yesterday and I knew I was going to stop at the co-op on the way home. I had to stop for household stuff but as I predicted, ended up buying a bottle of wine! Even tho I could hear you lovely people on here telling me not to. However, I didnt open it until about an hour before my bath and bed and miracously (however you spell it), for the first time in god knows how long, there is half of it left in the fridge this morning!! That wont seem like much of an achievement to some but to me it is!!

I'm going to try starting at the gym tonight - just 20/30 minutes and see how I get on - I had back surgery in June and need to build up muscles. Hopefully it will also help deter me from drinking as much.

I'd like to think that I wont touch what is left of the wine tonight - tho I'm not sure I can see me pouring it away. And I'd like to not drink tomorrow or Thursday night. I am away the weekend with my sister in law who is also a wine monster so I know it wont be avoided then.

Thanks again for all the support guys.......so so glad I picked up this thread. xx

Just popping on quick to say a huge well done to Caz :T:T:T

I went to an AA meeting last year and it was a similar experience to you, I knew the place but the front door was shut and I didn't know how to get in and there was also a group of people outside and I had to venture up to ask if I was in the right place!

I'm so pleased you enjoyed the meeting, you write so well, I can feel the buzz you are feeling :)

Fay, so glad the kids are back and the noise in the car didn't get to you too much :D

I need to apologise, particularly to Fay, today. I failed dismally last night, drank loads, OH didn't notice, I hid it and drank it secretly. Feel like !!!!!! this morning. Have no idea why I did it and am p!ssed off with myself that I didn't stop it before it started. I enjoyed it whilst I was doing it, although felt guilty.

Sorry for the downer post :(

Onwards and upwards, picking up my mum now and taking the kids out for lunch. Dinner was bought yesterday so I don't need to go to 'the shop', a quick dinner of burgers, chips and corn. I need to get myself on here tonight to keep on the straight and narrow.

I will find out a bit later today if we will have enough money to go away for a couple of days next week, I need it so much to get myself out of this house and away from my normal routine temptations.

I'll pop back later. Off to read Caz' post again for some inspiration, cos that's one of the most inspirational posts I've read for a long time!
