I can't remember the last day I didn't have a drink, but I have vowed not to succumb to the pressures of supermarket mega-chaep booze and am trying not to have any in the house.
Shameful state of affairs, and when I did log my weekly "points" tally, well, scarey stuff.
Is it an age thing, I am mid 40's and all of my social life since studenthood has revolved around alcohol (and usually excesses thereof).
I always go dry for one month every year, so can stop when I want to, but there is so much peer pressure, and so many tempting offers, and then that "having something to offer visitors" excuse too.
Hard work this, but will be interesting to see if my willpower can be strong enough.
Like all revolutions, guerrilla goodness begins slowly, with a single act. Let it be yours.

Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty.

I disgust myself too when i drink. In fact i spend monday to friday worrying about what i have done / said to people when drunk, but then seem to stop caring come friday night when i head down to the pub and start the cycle all over again. My partner deserves better from me which is why i am going to stop now for good and spend my money on her rather than on poisoning myself and upsetting people.

    Miss P

Do you think i could join in on the AFD target for the month? I was AF yesterday and WILL be doing the rest of the month too so i guess my target is 22.
    AF since 06/02/2010

even as a relative newbie to this thread just wanted to say welcome to the new newbies - lol

You have come to the right place - everyone is so lovely and supportive and non-judgmental

Will have another AF day today - even though it is lovely and sunny and the remainder of the wine in the fridge is calling me. But I shall ignore it!

Well done Caz - I think you are very brave and glad it all went well

Hugs to those having a bad day

    Evening all

Blissful peace and quiet here in the Piggy household. OH had taken Piglet and daughter to see his Mum and Dad so I'm on my own for an hour or so. Its great as I can catch up on all the posts - all these new posters, its fab!

Samandsheryl - welcome! You have been added to the list. Well done on deciding to try and give up. Thats what I'm trying to do at the moment. I can understand where you are coming from when you say you are in danger of losing things if things don't drastically change. Good luck!

Fay - glad the kids are back!! Bet you've suddenly realised just how quiet its been!!!:rotfl:

Budgie - I know you said you'd be off here for a few days but if you are lurking just want you to know I'm thinking of you. Hope you are ok.

Gromit2303 - Welcome to the thread! I think drinking half a bottle and stopping is an amazing achievement! Its not something I could ever do so I think thats brilliant.

Jo - Don't beat yourself up over this. I was exactly the same this morning (was it a full moon last night???) but then decided to wipe slate clean and carry on.

Whirly - welcome to you too and the best of luck with your giving up journey!

Have just been an absolute child....heard the ice-cream man so went dashing out and got myself a 99 cone with nuts and sauce. Piglet normally eats half of mine so I'm relishing eating the entire thing myself !(whilst dripping it on the keyboard!:o)

Off to Buckingham palace tomorrow with my Mum for our day Trip. Looking forward to that. I love spending time with my Mum so should be a fun day. Will mean I won't be able to update scores tomorrow but promise to update Thursday.

OH asked me today if the wine was worth it last night. Had to admit, rather shamefacedly, that it wasn't. I slept badly and had banging head this morning. Can I honestly say its worth it??? No. So why did I do it? No idea. Too chicken to say no to people? Or just testing myself? Well, won't be chicken in future (I hope) and I think I failed the test. Or passed it, depending on which way you look at it!:rotfl:Back on the straight and narrow today.

Just wanted to finish with saying how proud I am of you cazza! That must have taken so much courage. Well done you for doing it!

Now off to enjoy my peace...while it lasts!!!

  • Wow - loads of new people, it's fantastic! Hi to everybody.

Caz - well done on going to the meeting last night, was great to hear how you got on.

I went to a meeting a few years ago and found it very inspiring. I'd phoned up the helpline to find out about Glasgow meetings and they put me in touch with a lovely woman who took me there. Afterwards I had so much to think about, the meeting really moved me. I never went back because I didn't want the woman who had taken me the first time to feel she had to give me a lift every week and it was too difficult for me to get to on public transport.

It did make me AF for 6 months though, so something worked. Might have a look again for a more local meeting.

Miss P - onwards and upwards and great that you've kind of tested the water on going back to the old ways and feel it's not worth it - seems to be all negatives (the bad sleep, banging headache etc) and really no positives.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Budgie - thinking of you.

    xx

115k just read your post and I can totally identify with you regarding the depression thing, I suffered pnd and had terrible side effects with the medication (was not on it for that long as I took myself off the tablets) but I still think I am possible suffering a bit of depression and I think I use alcohol for that reason really.....

Must be awful for you to have had alcoholic parents, although (and please don't start any debates on this) I do believe that there is such a thing as an addictive gene...

You are at least trying to cut down and are aware of the dangers which is a good thing xx
