Also need to rent a mobility scooter fir the duration as mum cannot walk far, I know the parks gave them first come first served basis but cannot risk her not getting one so thought maybe best to hire, any suggestions ?

Also as mum is disabled is there anything like we have over here for blue badge holders, ie can she use her badge or have to apply for one for America, for free parki g at the parks and parki g nearer to the parks

    Hi

I am most definitely no expert, but there is a special needs forum on The Dibb which is full of experts.

I've a feeling it's not as straightforward as showing the UK blue badge and you have to do something in advance for a small fee (could be wrong) and I'm almost positive it doesn't give you free parking at the parks, just closer spaces. Please don't take my word for it though.

ETA ooops, maemaesmummy had already covered this, sorry!

Thank you everyone for your advice, I now seem to be at least looking in the right direction!
KarenG- have set up flight alert searches (thanks again), I would love to travel direct etc, but think you are only travelling 2 days and you are in resort 12/13 so would much rather spend the money on villa with games room etc. so will probably go indirect as suggested. Can I send the kids as freight?? ;) If I book flights Monday to Monday, is that going to be a problem with villa hire or are the readily available for whatever dates required? Have looked on a few of the Florida Owner websites and they do seem to be, but wondered if there were and hidden cost I should know about.
Kaz2904 – maybe not an expert then:rotfl:, but you still know more than me!! Sounds like you have the right trip booked for you which is the important thing. I bet you do still look at the prices, it can be worth it if they only ever go up!
Now the really difficult question...how do I persuade the OH to go in 2012 not 2013!
    Thanks to everyone again!!

I hope you've seen and managed to snag a cheap flight on Delta for next summer :T
  • Delta prices still available as of last night, £499 from Heathrow in direct. Great price and saved £1000!!

Ha ha:rotfl:, I have been meaning to come back on here to thank you, but have spent the last few days looking for Villa’s!
You advice of if ‘a glitch pops up, don't dither - just book’ was still ringing through my ears when, shock horror  a glitch popped up! I know it’s still going, but I got in early and got good flights to suit us, so over the moon. It also killed dead and debate of 2012 vs. 2013.
Now do you want to make any suggestion about cheap car hire glitches to see if you have the magic touch twice, we need a 7 seater as OH younger sister is also now coming!
thanks for your help! now planning 2 weeks in florida instead of just dreaming!

Hi Tasha, I used my blue badge at all the parks - still had to pay got to park at the front of the parks so very handy - A lot of the forums I read advised you not to use it in shopping mall carparks as not official there but the parks recognise it fine. Also if you take it into the parks, they give you priority q'ing we got it in Universal) or you could take a gp or hosp letter - not sure what Disney do but I know they do something similar. The parks do have mobility scooters but they charge and are expensive so best to hire from someone else outside and take with you - there are a lot of link on the dibb boards HTH

  • Well I've taken the plunge and booked a cheeky 8 day trip in June and :eek:have booked a 2 bed villa at OKW with deluxe dining..

Unfortunately the 180 day window opens whilst we are in Florida for 3+ weeks for xmas, so some serious planning is in order..something which I don't do..we usually just wing it lol!

I'm guessing it will be a one off to stay on site or we may love it and change our July trip accordingly!

I'm off to Orlando at the end of this month with 2 other adults. We wanted to visit Universal and Island of adventures but we only have two days avaliable for amusement parks as that isn't the purpose of our trip.
I can't seem to find any two day passes off uk sites though only American sites. Is it ok to buy off american sites or does anyone know of any uk based sites doing 2 day passes.
  • Hiya,

The fourteen day pass to Universal Orlando is probably your best bet. You can't buy it over there (UK exclusive deal). I know it seems like overkill, and others may well find a beter way, but at about £95 (maybe less if you shop around) it is probably gonna cost about that for a two day pass while over there. Best price I could find for a 2 day park hopper was about $150 (plus tax etc.) with exchange rate about $1.50 to the £1.00, not much diference, also some of the cheaper UK ticket agents will give quidco too!
  • We paid £87 from florida tix iirc for the 14 day pass.
