-Kaz2904 sorry if I’m presuming that you’re a Florida expert!! But is £800 per flight about normal for the school holidays?
    Thanks again!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
We booked ours last week :o. I've never been before!
I have been reading around on thedibb and people seemed to think that the flights were going to be more expensive this year.
I know you can get flights much cheaper than a package but you do need the money up front when you book. This can mean it's not an option for most people.
We were looking for a 5 bed villa and they were coming out at a maximum of £1750. Cheapest were £1100 which is a very good price IMHO.

We ended up getting a package as MiL has paid for the first £10k of holiday and insisted we had a package, a games room and a pool. If we could have not had a games room, we'd have paid less and been closer to Orlando. Meh, we can go to other places this way :D
I'm just guestimating from the flight prices which I was able to get by basing our dates a couple of weeks earlier. I'm not looking any more because it'll make me feel ill :o Well, I bet I do!
    Enjoy your holiday :D

I know its not relevant for you now as you are booked, but there are a lot of villas of that size with a games room and pool which are closer - easy to book, but not always possible to book as a package through a TA. Personally, I prefer to book the villa direct so I know the exact address, amenities etc.

Totally agree when you have booked, no point going back and seeing if the price has changed.
  • Hi, We're staying in Bahama Bay resort near Lake Davenport.
Is it worth buying the 'kids eat free' card - are there any restaurants participating nearby?
    Thanks
  • Thank you everyone for your advice, I now seem to be at least looking in the right direction!
KarenG- have set up flight alert searches (thanks again), I would love to travel direct etc, but think you are only travelling 2 days and you are in resort 12/13 so would much rather spend the money on villa with games room etc. so will probably go indirect as suggested. Can I send the kids as freight?? ;) If I book flights Monday to Monday, is that going to be a problem with villa hire or are the readily available for whatever dates required? Have looked on a few of the Florida Owner websites and they do seem to be, but wondered if there were and hidden cost I should know about.
Kaz2904 – maybe not an expert then:rotfl:, but you still know more than me!! Sounds like you have the right trip booked for you which is the important thing. I bet you do still look at the prices, it can be worth it if they only ever go up!
Now the really difficult question...how do I persuade the OH to go in 2012 not 2013!
    Thanks to everyone again!!
  • Have booked my park tickets (went to atd and got them to price match floridatix while throwing in a kids eat free). They tried to sell me insurance against cancellation and loss of tickets, I said no but is it worth it?

Hi, looking for some advice going to florida for a month over Xmas staying in a 5 bed villa, have done flights and car hire need help with this -

Park tickets looked at getting ultimate discovery cove with swim, them WDW and universal tickets where it's the 8 parks unlimited for 14 days, DC coming out at £157 each and WDW/Universal about £359 adult/£280 child, does anyone know any better deals ?

Also need to rent a mobility scooter fir the duration as mum cannot walk far, I know the parks gave them first come first served basis but cannot risk her not getting one so thought maybe best to hire, any suggestions ?

Also as mum is disabled is there anything like we have over here for blue badge holders, ie can she use her badge or have to apply for one for America, for free parki g at the parks and parki g nearer to the parks ?

Also Xmas day what would you suggest, where to eat etc, we are three adults, two six year old and. Baby of one ?

Anything else you think I might have missed, thanks do much for your help xx

We usually do 2 3 weeks trips a year..August and Christmas and have never had a problem with say thursday to thursday bookings etc. Villa owners are usually very helpful indeed.
We always stay in a villa but I have just booked a cheeky week in June to stay at Old Key West :T

Have you been before? The last 3 years have been ahem chilly to say the least..we had a few 70's days but we spent one day last year at Seaworld in -2...so so cold...we even ,made the BBc news here in the UK lol..so go prepared with hats scarves and gloves.
The main thing about going at that time is you need to plan..and plan well. A lot of days the parks were in stage 3 shut down by noon
We have eaten at the Villa De Flora at Gaylord Palms for the last few xmas days and teamed it with a trip to Snow and Ice ..this year it's Shrek the halls and looks good! The window for bookings both onsite and off will be open now so you need to be deciding and booking asap!

Have you joined the dibb..we have a social group for christmas dibbers.full of ideas and hints.
