Well I don't think that you have missed the boat yet, flights are still not out for return dates after 21/08. We're going 12/8- 26/08 but we've booked a package. If you book separately, you will need to pay for your flights up front so that's something to remember.
Just quickly checking https://www.florida4less.co.uk and they have prices starting at £5289.64 for a 3 bed villa with car hire. Is that affordable for you? Flights seem to be around the £800 mark. The dates quoted are 10/08- 24/08 flying from London Gatwick.
    Hope this helps :)
Check out thedibb too, that's where I have got a lot of information from as well as here. You'll be looking at £335 per person on top of this price for your disney/ universal tickets too. That's where the prices really start to mount up!

    Good Afternoon
Would be grateful for any advice you guys could give.
The family and I would love to go to Florida within the next two years either summer 2012, Christmas 2012 or at very latest summer 2013. We are a family of 2 adults 3 children 10, 8, 4 (summer 2012). Having looked around I am under the impression that I have ‘missed the boat’ for any good deals for summer next year. Would like to keep the cost of getting there as low as possible so that we have more $$ to spend whist we are away.
We wish to go for 2 weeks during school holidays (or over by 1, 2 days max), Any London airport. Don’t mind either a package or splitting things out, we both happy to drive.
Other than that neither of us has been to Florida, we are sort of relying on friends that have and this website.
Thanks for any help you can give.

In all honesty I couldn't advise going to WDW at xmas unless it's a repeat visit and you are prepared for the hoards of people everywhere, the traffic jams on the 192 and the 4 and the 4 + hour queues for rides.
The middle to end of August is a great time with minimal queues..although it is very hot and humid with potential for hurricanes lol.

  • Thank you both for you speedy replies. Sounds like a good idea to avoid xmas.
Can stretch to £5300, I was looking at virgin holidays that were well above this, being new to the whole Florida thing, it’s nice to have a bit of confirmation of what is a reasonable price.
Have been reading this thread and seen various post re park tickets, but will leave all that till we have something booked.
Thanks for thedibb site will give me lots more reading. We are not normally nervous travellers, but think with the Disney thing it’s so massive with so many options/alternatives. It will realistically be the only chance we get to go. Don’t mind spending the money, just nice to know you are spending it in the right places, so to speak.
-Kaz2904 sorry if I’m presuming that you’re a Florida expert!! But is £800 per flight about normal for the school holidays?
    Thanks again!

This seems to be the bit I’m missing, can’t seem to find anything at prices that low? Any clues? ;) will spend more to upgrade acommodation.

We've been most years since 2002, always in the school holidays, and usually in August. I have never paid more than £650 per person per flight. The key is to sign up to flight alert searches eg kayak, sky scanner, and to be flexible. By this I mean consider flying indirect, into a different airport than Orlando (Tampa for instance is not much further of a drive if you are staying West of Orlando where many vacation homes are sited), don't be picky about the airline, if a glitch pops up, don't dither - just book (so have the money available). Codeshares can save some money too.

If we had to pay the price maemaesmummy has, we simply would not go. But I've always managed to find something :D

You are too early for Flight bargains for next August. Sign up, check places like the Dibb every day, and if there is a bargain you can grab it :j

I actually priced up 4 weeks in Sydney with VH and it was cheaper than our package for 3 weeks to OKW next August for 3 weeks
