i get the health concerns and i dont mean to sound selfish but i do think the benefit out weighs the risk

The risks are that you will be very gravely ill. One, two or all of any babies conceived will die either soon after conception, mid pregnancy or just before (or after birth). If it is a large multiple pregnancy any babies that survive are likely (in comparison to a single pregnancy) to have illnesses or conditions that will affect their development. Triplets would be hard. 3 autistic triplets with heart defects doesn't bare thinking about.

I'm not trying to put you off and I would be doing exactly as you are, but please please prepare yourself for the significant risks of multiple pregnancies. Of course, I hope it doesn't happen and you end up with a nice healthy singleton (or twin if that's what you have a gut feeling about!) baby(s) who grows perfectly :)

Also, glad you and DH are in agreement about what to do. I can only imagine the frustration if one of you wanted to follow the doctors advice and not BD. Good luck!!

AFM, I'm a little confused this morning. Got a virtually + OPK yesterday (CD10). Did another last night and it was -. Did 2 this morning...a clearblue one and an IC. The IC is positive but the clearblue barely has a line at all. Confuzzled :( I know OPK's are best in the afternoon, but I'm curious as to why 2 done at the same time would have very different results. Any ideas?

VK - if it was me I would probably risk it, the chances are still slim and you might get one work and none others do.

BZ - try not to put a limit on when to stop trying for IVF. Its really hard because you always think just one more go and it might work, You never know but I suppose you can weigh it up on what you can afford.

To be fair lilymay it is really really unusual for multiple pregnancies to result in all of the children having autism. My DD is profoundly autistic so I know quite a lot of parents who have kids on the spectrum and one mum I know has identical twins who are autistic and is constantly being asked to participate in research projects because (as of 2 years ago at least) there were only 6 sets of multiples in the UK all of whom had autism.

The biggest risk with multiples is health problems linked to prematurity as it is very unusual to carry even twins to full term, and the more multiples you have the earlier they are likely to be born.

well the risk has been taken so we wait and see what happens, yes it may be looked at as selfish it may not,
but not trying to be religious i kind of think what will be will be

That was purely an example Nicki. I wasn't implying that all multiple pregnancies end with Autistic children who have heart defects. As you say, the risks are with prematurity.

VK - Best of luck for this cycle, sounds like you are in with the best chance possible.

    Hi all
I'm still lurking, & reading, just not posting much. Just wanted to say hello to you all. AFM, life goes on! It's snowing heavily here, & I've got wedding flowers to try to do for my sister's wedding tmrw. House full of guests. New rescue dog is settling in well but needs careful training, she's a beagle/lab x & a real character. My basal cell carcinoma has responded to treatment, & I've an appt at the end of the month to check it. I'll push for surgery in any case I think.

I'm thinking of everyone that posts here, hoping & praying for good health, & healthy babies for you all, if not in 2013, then very soon after that!!

    Hi ladies,

I'm popping over here from the TTC thread. We found out yesterday that my partner has low sperm motility and from what I've been reading this makes it difficult to conceive naturally. Does anyone else have experience of this with their partners? Any advice or tips?

He is repeating the test again just to make sure but it has come as bit of a shock to us both.

    Hi Elsie,
i'm sorry to hear that there's a problem, i believe the usual advice is for him to take supplements, particularly selenium and zinc, wellman conception vitamins are meant to be the dogs danglies for his danglies :) he needs to cut down (if he does) on alcohol and smoking and keep his danglies cool- loose boxers and no laptops directly on the lap.
this forum is a wealth of information and stories from ladies and gents who've overcome their sperm issues:

onestep great news about the carcinoma responding to treatment, i think i'd be pushing for surgery too to make doubly sure it was gone

VK-2008 hope your cycle is successful and any resulting babies are happy and healthy :)

had a read of your blog T2D, it's really good and informative :) although i did get confused when you said 'mr martin's contribution' as i thought for a second you meant :money:

    Hi Elsie
Not getting your hopes up but it might be a one off my dh had a low count once retested and it was fine
However should it not be there are treatments which might help dependent on levels
Sometimes it's better to be in a position knowing what's wrong as oppose to myself and dh who are unexplained
But as they say out of the million of little swimmers there are it only takes one
Think positive and if you are going to see an expert try get your bmi in a healthy range as they like to blame that on a lot of things
When we first went we had to lose approx a stone before they would look into investigations and tests etc
    Best of luck
And there are loads of great folk on here who can help you

  • hi guys i dont post a lot but wondered if you could help

been referred to st marys manchester as we have been ttc since may 2010

had all tests that came back fine now they say unexplained fertility

the hospital have rang to say that on my next cd1 i should ring them and they will start the ivf process

we have signed all the forms and it was all explained to us but i havent a clue what happens next. they gave us so much info that it was a bit overwhelming but i wished id remembered everything she said.

so the question is what tends to happen next or now it all starts..have googled ivf procedure and some websites mentioned that they put you on the pill for the first month and then second month start injections etc

just a rundown of what i should expect

    many thanks
