I had the loop so had it under local rather than general but the surgeon/consultant and the nurse was so nice it really did make the whole thing mush easier.

My very nice consultant is a real help. I read a few horror stories before my self-imposed google ban!

I'm extremely lucky I think that I get private health insurance with my work. I always thought I would never use it as there is the NHS, but actually being able to see someone much quicker, and my own choice has made life easier. There are some downsides (prescriptions aren't covered) but so far its been as 'nice' an experience as it can be.

I keep cancelling my NHS appointment, but they keep re-booking it with 'you must come in now' urgent messages. I can't quite seem to get through to them that I have gone private!

There is a variocele (sp?!) and he’s said OH can have surgery for that, but he also said that wouldn’t make a difference to the low count, and would only slightly improve the motility.

Seriously consider the op. If the ICSI isn't successful and you can't afford anymore, you'll be kicking yourself if you're 3 years down the line and either can't get the op or have to wait 6 MORE months to see any improvement.

Plus, it could mean the difference between you having to have ICSI or being able to have IUI.

There is a lot more recent evidence to suggest it DOES make a difference - unfortunately most UK "specialists" aren't that caught up yet. Luckily we found a urologist that was.

SK - thank you so much for that, it's really useful information. We would definitely consider the op. From what the FS said last week I think it might be a while off, he's ordered an u/s but said there can be quite a waiting list. But definitely one to consider - if nothing else, it evens things up a bit with the amount of prodding and poking going on :rotfl:.

Yay Derby  (only you can't have the beer).
Runner - everything crossed. Hope you get two!

Tea - well done. A tough decision but really sounds like the right choice for you.

My company offers paid leave for fertility treatment. It gets used. I'm sure many people don't use it though (either cos they don't know it's available or they don't want anyone to know).

AF been more like 'normal' today. Still kept CD1 as Saturday & have booked appt with FS for CD11. It's mid afternoon so a bit inconvenient but hey ho! OH is away that day so I'll be on my own (no-one knows we are TTC). I haven't got a problem with going alone. If everything looks OK I will (if I understood the FS right) probably be given a trigger injection (like when having IVF) which means the egg will release 36 hours later. We just then need to BD - no pressure there then on OH!

    Congrats to Wills & Kate!
  • Congratulations Derby. Lovely news for you. it bought a tear to my eye. i did wonder what you were announcing when i started reading. :D

Good luck runner, take it easy if you can. I didn't realise that with the cyclogest, i was always told to take it if my treatment was after 12.00, but to withhold that dose if treatment was before 12. Although i am sure one lot of them said orally on the box, which i wasnt too sure about. :D

Good luck to everyone else too. Thinking of you all.

Got PMT and I just burst into tears wrapping presents for a friend who just had her first baby. Don't get me wrong, I'm over the moon for them, not least because theirs was also a long journey, but the little baby mitts I got them just set me off. :(

Also, posted a while back that our first NHS FS appt was on 8th November. I was told 6-8 weeks for second appt and it came through for 28th March. Got a letter a few days later cancelling that one and rescheduling for 11th April. Need to book in for a HyCoSy scan this cycle which will show if my tubes are blocked, but if the scan does show anything wrong then the appt to discuss options won't be until 11th April which feels like so long away. :(
