Cake4brains - I am delighted for you and your little miracles -
One day, all the TTC anguish will be nothing but a distant memory.
In the meantime, enjoy every minute of pg and parenthood!
I imagine most people have a little twinge of jealousy whenever anyone gets pg (or is it just me..?!), but it's only a little twinge and only because we want it so much ourselves.
We're not going to feel you are rubbing anyone's nose in it over here - not when you've done things the hard way, like all of us! It's good to know there are successes/miracles to the long slog.
Thrilled for you - and remember - you're eating cake for 3 now!0 -
Thanks Bigzippy :T:T you have really set my mind at rest. I remember you too

HUGE Congratulations to C4B what a shock twins :AHey mrs rogers  I remember you from the ttc thread
I have pcos, high bmi (though managed to drop 8bmi points in the last year, even without bring able to exercise
), and been on metformin during that time, have ibs, and am under an nhs fs. I weaned myself onto metformin, because I did find they had side effects and didn't want them to be severe. I found that worked for me and within a few weeks I didn't even notice a difference to my ibs from the metformin. As for the weight/bmi issue, the fs ordered the tests whilst also encouraging me to lose weight. Because of how long the tests on the nhs take, and the ones the wanted me to have + their waiting lists, that gave me 6 months to have the tests and lose more weight before going back to the fs for the results and potential treatment. They won't/shouldn't just send you away because you have a high bmi. They will/should run the standard tests at least. Hth, feel free to pm me directly if you want to.
Goal - We want to be mortgages free :j
I Quit Smoking March 2010 :T0 -
All the best for you and your FIL, anmarj
Glad to be of service mrs rogers
good job you quoted though, or I wouldn't have had a clue what you were referring to!

Well for anyone who read my last post, we went to see Doc re Hubby's SA and it looks like I will be hanging around with you people on this board for a very long time

Doctor was more than useless and as my OH has just said, rather irresponsible. He started by saying things weren't good and that he didn't really know how to interpret the results (always a good sign from a doctor!) He said that OH has lots of sperm but that they aren't really moving properly. OH asked if it meant he wouldn't father chidlren at all or it could just take longer and he said he didn't know but it looked like he wouldn't. Said it was too late in the day to ring any specialists for advice (5.40) as they would all be on their private yachts at this time of day. Said he will do some research and call us to book another apt when he knows more.
Unhelpful is an understatement. I don't know what to do with myself. Have been in tears all evening. Felt like asking doc for a printout of the SA and I would google it myself.
Anyone know what happens from here?? I'm at a loss right now and just want to curl up and the world to swallow me.0 -
Sneezy.. I'm sorry your gp is so useless. Ask firmly to be referred to a urologist to get OH checked out properly, and a fertility specialist too.. Time for the specialists now. Don't feel too down, you've made the first step now. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time0

Hugs to you sneezy, I would be seeking a second opion from another GP if at all possible and ask for the referral.
I did find this if you do happen to get his results, but DON'T take what it says as gospel, but it might ease your mind a bit

doc at our hospital states that it is the WHO standard that they use. OH is meant to be way above the rates set so he has got rather big headed!!! Should not of told him that!
The best way I have found at the monment is to try and be pro active with doctors etc. I got rather cheesed off with the hospital because every time I went up to them I got treated rather badly, and this time was determine not to let that happen. You will have bad days, but if you try and be proactive and not let them get away with it, it makes this slightly easier.

Sneezy, sorry your GP was a bit useless! (I think I would be asking for a print out of the results, I'm with you on that!) If he doesn't know how to read them then why is he ordering, or passing judgement, on them?

Like onestep said, ask for referrals to a FS and a urologist too.
All the best with this part of your journey. I know it sucks, and you'll both need some time to process this.
I guess, in the long run, at least you know what you're up against now, and you can start working out the ways you can fix the problem?:o"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
Sounds like he has low motility. But as he has high numbers, it probably is OK. But then I'm no doctor, and haven't seen the numbers so don't listen to anything I say:psneezyboots wrote: »OH has lots of sperm but that they aren't really moving properly.
You should've asked for a printout so you could google:D0 -

Well that's helpful isn't it! I don't want to give medical advice, and believe me, I'm no expert, but low motility (which is what it sounds like) is no barrier to a successful conception. It just might not happen naturally.
If you go the IVF route, they can do something called ICSI instead, whereby the best sperm are selected by the andrologist and injected into the egg. This totally gets round the problem of low motility. Hell, they can even use dead sperm, as it still carries the right genetic material!
