    Hey all

I'm feeling the limbo thing at the moment. Finally got hold of my doc re the ultra sound.. she said it has come back showing cysts on there in line with PCOS but cant diagnos me totally as ultra sound is only one element of the diagnosis.

She said no point her doing the blood tests as they will be done in the hospital when we go.
She has referred us so waiting for our first appointment. She has also enrolled me on a 6 month NHS step by step program for weightloss as BMI high.

Thats my biggest worry at the moment .. worried ill go to FC and they will send me away until lost weight.

Does anyone know whether they will do that even if they diagnos me with PCOS and high BMI ?

My GP mentioned they may give me Metformin.. I have read a lot about it and a bit worried as I suffer with IBS and one of the most common side affects is diarrhea. :( Anyone had much experiance with Metformin?

Had MSE existed when we went through the battles you guys are going through, I'd have been a regular contributer to this thread. I remember it keenly and often stand alongside friends who are not yet pregnant.

Which is why I wanted to post some of a friends current Facebook status - not to make you think "Why isn't it me?" but to remind you that just some day, it could be you too. Keep on keeping on. x

We are pleased to announce that we are expecting our first child... we are so grateful to share this news as we have been trying for children for 8 years. The midwife referred to it as a “spontaneous pregnancy” but we prefer the term “miracle”

Hey mrs rogers  I remember you from the ttc thread :)
I have pcos, high bmi (though managed to drop 8bmi points in the last year, even without bring able to exercise :D), and been on metformin during that time, have ibs, and am under an nhs fs. I weaned myself onto metformin, because I did find they had side effects and didn't want them to be severe. I found that worked for me and within a few weeks I didn't even notice a difference to my ibs from the metformin. As for the weight/bmi issue, the fs ordered the tests whilst also encouraging me to lose weight. Because of how long the tests on the nhs take, and the ones the wanted me to have + their waiting lists, that gave me 6 months to have the tests and lose more weight before going back to the fs for the results and potential treatment. They won't/shouldn't just send you away because you have a high bmi. They will/should run the standard tests at least. Hth, feel free to pm me directly if you want to. :)

Mrs Rogers - fs should not send you away just because of weight and bmi. They should carry out tests whilst encouraging you to lose weight. I do think that for fertility treatment such as ivf the fs normally wants bmi of 30 and below but everything takes time in relation to tests and results and as you are on a weight loss problem that should help illustrate to fs that you are trying to lower bmi.

AFM - I have first appointment with fs this afternoon. We have had blood tests, std swab and SA done before referral so imagine it will be a chat about length of cycles and ov times and bding and hope they will arrange for me to have scan done. Feeling really nervous but at least I am working this morning do hope time goes quickly.

Good luck for this afternoon primmer :) be prepared that they might want to repeat tests (eg the swabs) for themselves. Mine did just between visits to them!

On way back from fs appointment, she was really nice and said that as blood tests show I ov and dh's SA was good she would refer me for lap and dye test to check my tubes. They will send me a letter with a number to call when I am cd1 and they will give me a date about cd10 for the test.
FS said that whatever the result I should seriously consider going for ivf due to my age but that we can decide after results of the test.
I am glad things are moving and getting tubes tested but also feel that it all seems so difficult when others seem to conceive so quickly.
