juicygirl & gin - good luck for tomorrow

hope you don't mind me sneaking in for a quick question - does anyone know what the upper BMI limit is for being prescribed clomid?
    thanks xxxx
Some say it has to be below 30 (29.9?) but some doesn't have an upper limit. It's to do with luck I think.

I just want to know! I *demand* answers!!

Well, I got my answers - CD1! Be careful what you wish for..

    Perfidious womb!

I feel fine about it surprisingly - and at least I'm spared knickerwatching and squinting at sticks for a while.

Oh well, I guess we have another go with the drugs now, starting tomorrow...not with a great deal of optimism though.

I'm starting to think some things are Just Not Meant To Be.

Good luck Gin and JG, time for some good news!

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi everyone,

All 7 of my embryos are still going strong and I'm booked in for transfer of the best one tomorrow, day 5 so they are hoping for a blastocyst by then ( last contact with the clinic was yest when they were all 8 cells).

Any advice for after the transfer gratefully received! Do you guys do bed rest or not? My clinic have just said take it easy that day and back to normal the next. Also thinking about a holiday, we have friends we could go to see in Dubai? Would you do a 7 hr flight 5 days after transfer? And what about the heat?? I just don't know what to do for the best!

    Xxx

All your embies sound great, fingers crossed for a smooth transfer.
I was advised that a long haul and too much heat would not be good. If your body gets overheated its not good for the embies. I have 2 weeks of rest and lay down on the sofa mainly, no housework or heavy lifting.

Good luck Gin for scan tomorrow.

Not sure but it is really worth getting it down as much as you can before ttc. I know how hard that is though.

My Bf is a midwife and when I saw her at the weekend she was terribly upset because she had been assisting at a birth which went horribly wrong. Mum had a BMI in the high 30's and as a result had gestational diabetes and hypertension. She had gone overseas for fertility treatment. The birth was very complicated in part because they couldn't monitor the baby's heart rate properly due to mum's weight. They didnt want to do a c section due to risks to mum at that weight but in the end had to do an old fashioned vertical cut. Baby was not in good shape, and was in special care with poor prognosis when I saw her. She said she has only ever lost 2 women in childbirth in over 10 years of practice, and both had high BMIs.

The reason why a lot, if not all, of the trusts put an upper limit on BMI before permitting fertility treatment isn't because of some inbuilt prejudice against overweight people, or a sneaky way of cutting the budget. It really is very dangerous for mum and for baby to conceive and carry when very overweight. It isnt a lot different I think to drinking heavily, smoking, or using drugs when pregnant, but for some reason while most mums to be are agreed that the first three are bad things, they tend not to feel the same about the weight issue.
  • Thanks Nicki for your reply, your poor bf - that sounds really sad. Tbh I'd not really thought of it like like, I just presumed Clomid wasn't effective over a certain BMI (mines 26.5 which I know does class me as overweight). I know I really must try, but as you said - easier said than done!!!

I think 26.5 I fine. Its only just over the healthy weight range. I guess I was talking more about BMIs over 30, when the risks really shoot up.

Good luck on the journey. I know lots of women who've had really good success with clomid, though not me sadly! It is definitely though the least invasive of the help they can give you, so definitely worth trying for a few cycles.

I am back at work from my scan. We haveing Egg collection on Wednesday! The nurse said there are potentially 10 follicles that are big enoug. There are about 17-18 in total. The biggest ones being 24mm, 23.5mm, 20mm.

The bad news is the situation with work. My boss refused to aprove my holiday request and said to book it 50:50 to sick leave and holiday from Wednesday. Holday request was from Tuesday. It is an akward situation, I hate it. I would much rather had it as holiday that like this.
