Was thinking it would be useful to have a summary of everyone's situation - didn't you guys use to have this on the first post? Unless lots is going on for someone I tend to forget where they are at IYSWIM.
    I'll start off then:):

    QQuaver (oldish)
TTC since 06/09, 1 mc 08/09. Irregular cycles.
Been to fertility specialist since 06/10, diagnosed with PCO, and DH 22% motility, 1% morphology & abnormal viscosity.

Been on Clomid for 5 cycles, 2 of which was with Puregon injections. Ov'd 4 times out of 5 clomid cycles (one was cancelled at CD14). Had 1 IUI BFN (with what the doctor described as disappointing semen sample:o).

Had HSG last month, it was clear:)

Once we talked about self funding she became really sweet, holding my hand, rubbing my knee, telling me that my weight was absolutely fine !!!!!
    That sounds dodgy:think:

I agree with QQuaver - I'd be checking out the clinics success rates very closely. Having a high BMI can really lower your IVF chances of success and is the very reason why it has to be below a certain level for NHS treatment. Remember you can ask your GP to refer you to any clinic. Have a look at the HFEA website as they have loads of useful info on there.

Lilo - Hope today went ok

My tubes were blocked but are now clear and ever scan i've ever had shows i am ovulating. I do have a high BMI though of 29 which if i have PCOS i need to lose weight. My consultant was awful to me and told me that the reason I miscarried was because I was overweight. She also said that the FSH injections would help me to fall pregnant but my weight would cause multiple miscarriages! What I found out afterwards was that this is actually because of having a bicornuate uterus rather than being overweight. I was physically sick after that. Once we talked about self funding she became really sweet, holding my hand, rubbing my knee, telling me that my weight was absolutely fine !!!!!

My BMI was 32.6 when I started, and my consultant never made an issue of that. When we came to the point of talking about IVF, he said I need to loose the weight to get sub-30, so I could get NHS funding. I am at 29, and my consultant was happy, and teh clinic was fine too, no issues there.

How did it made you feel when she talked to you like that? I would have been very upset. Is there patients line or something you could talk to about the behaviour of the consultant and maybe have a second opinion, if possible? It really sounds doggy to me... But then I am a suspicious person...

    Oh, our summary.

I am 31, OH is 35 (ok, 36 in January). We have been trying since October 2007. No pregnancies.

First went to doctors January 2009. Blood tests, semen analysis - all ok.
Had HyCoSy June 2009, right ovary wouldn't drain, cyst on left ovary.
Lap&dye July 2009 to check the tubes again (because HyCoSy was inconclusive about the right tube) and to drain the cyst.
September 2009 started Clomid - 4 months, no success.
January 2010 3 more months of Clomid, with the scan at day 11 and HCG injection to release the egg, no success. At the appointment told that I need to loose weight if it doesn't work and the next step would be IVF.
May 2010 - weight goal missed by 0.5 kg, and given one more month of Letrozole. Lost enough weigh, referral letter sent out.
July 2010 - Patients information evening at the clinic, repeat blood tests at CD2-4, semen analysis for OH.
September 2010 - joint appointment with consultant, start IVF following cycle.
October 30th, 2010 - started first injections for IVF cycle.

Yesterday we had egg collection (EG) and out of 7+ follicles collected 1 egg. This morning we got the good news that it has fertilised - embryo transfer tomorrow morning!

  • Hi everyone, welcome to our 'new'girl, may your stay be short!

Gin - well done, hope tomorrow goes super for you, I understand how you feel, I did a natural IVF which only ever produced one egg, and was always on the edge of my seat waiting for something to go wrong. I remember going to the EC and the follicle was empty I was devastated. That was only once though - every other time it was fine (serial IVFer that I am) But remember, you are PUPO - pregnant til proved otherwise! Keep those stress levels low, and enjoy tomorrow. Can you take your own music? Thats wonderful if you can, it really sets the mood.

Thanks for all the good wishes girls, sadly thanks to the white stuff, we had to cancel all our appointments today. The trains werent running until 10am, and our first appointment was at 9am. We got stuck at St Pancras on Tuesday night, and then Ebbsfleet and took over 4 hours to get home, so were a bit wary of the train timetables!

Maddie - Ill try and make it brief! Age (dont tell anyone 41)Diagnosed as Endometriosis at 21, laser treatment and hormone treatment at 28. one child aged 7, took 2 years to fall pregnant, just about to start IVF when I got my BFP. Been trying for No2 ever since, have had 2 miscarriages, one at 9 weeks, one at 5 weeks.4 attempts at IVF. Diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in Dec 2008, treatment in 2009 including a major op to have my whole cervix removed. All clear to TTC given in Sept 2009 and have been trying ever since. Was originally told that I couldnt do IVF, but have now found a specialist who will try. Was supposed to have a trial ET today, but cancelled. If they cant, they will stretch the stitch and try again. (Well you did ask!!!!!)

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, dont have a clue where I am in the cycle, but am in the 2ww, but as we only babydanced once, I think our chances of conception are low!!!! - I know its nearly christmas but ....

Me 31, DH 32, TTC since 08/09. 20 perfectly timed cycles thanks to temping & fertility monitor. No BFP's (or even TLP's) Went to doctor April 2010, referred to Fertility Clinic October 2010. Hubby's SA below par, my antral follicles 4-5 per ovary (below average) and FSH +10 on 2 occasions indicating early menopause.

    Awaiting Lap & dye.

Hi - good luck today, Gin. Hope it's smooth and easy. Grow, little emby, grow. Find a comfy spot and settle in for the winter!

I like that, Lilo - PUPO - coz there aren't enough acronyms already! That's me this month anyway, currently cd20, testing on cd28 at 12dpo - damn right I am PUPO.

    +++++++++

    Me: 37, OH: 38

I have 1 child. It took 3 and a half years TTC#1 though, had a Lap and Dye and cystectomy, but otherwise, nothing wrong. I conceived spontaneously just after I had been precribed Clomid in June 2008.

Been TTC #2 since 09/09, and no luck so far. There's nothing wrong with either of us, blood tests are all fine. What's against me is probably my age and weight (BMI c. 31). (Doesn't stop plenty older and fatter people than me getting pg easily every day though..)

Currently on 6 months of Clomid, month 1. CD20, 4DPO, PUPO

Thanks for the summaries guys. As for me:

Me and OH both 27, started trying May 09.

Since then we've had no BFPs or TLPs.

Went to the docs around Feb 10 and they agreed to start blood tests etc so I could be referred as soon as we hit the 12m mark. However due to OH somehow dropping off the list for SA and then the docs forgetting I needed a rubella test, it took until Sept 10 to get referred. 1st appointment Oct 10

Now on a waiting list for a lap and dye, will hopefully be in Jan or Feb.

So far all tests have come back fine, only clue as to what the problem may be is that I sometimes have very bad periods and also have IBS and have pain in my abdomen quite a lot. Hence as soon as I heard about endometriosis in early 2009 I was convinced I had it and tried unsuccessfully to be referred for a laparoscopy at that point. Now ironically I'm not so sure as I've discovered a few food intolerances which partly explain the IBS and my periods haven't been so bad for a while.

Whoops, more of an essay than a summary! :o
Proud to be a moneysaver!

Hi Ginvzt, hope everything has gone well today.

When we first started trying my BMI was about 25 but in the last 3 years I gradually gained weight mainly through comfort eating I guess! I did also quit smoking 12 months ago and that hasn't helped the weight gain. I had a bmi of 31 about 7 months ago and now down to 29. Plan to try and lose a bit more, would be happy if I could get to 26.

I was really upset after that conversation, it happened about 2 months ago and unfortunately I fell into a bit of depression following it. Being on clomid and hormone injections didn't help either ! I think I have a good case to make a complaint against the consultant but right now I need to try and get happy again or in a better emotional place than I have been recently - putting up my xmas tree today has definately helped !
