Hi staffiecat, welcome to the club... Hope you don't have to stay here long (for right reasons). We have been trying for just over 3 years, and as you see from my earlier posts, we are on our first IVF journey, which hasn't been very smooth.
Where are you? as this is the first time I hear about the 3-year rule! I know some PCTs cut the funding to IVF, but no 3-year rule...
(Sorry, I am at home all day, so just keep checking the thread...)
Hi Ginvzt, thanks for the welcome! I am in South East and apparently this rule covers the whole region. OH and I are going to try and save so that we can have one cycle of IVF privately next year rather than wait until 2012. If that fails hopefully we can go back onto NHS in 2012 and continue.
I am sorry that your first IVF journey hasn't been the smoothest, a friend of mine has also recently started her first journey and is having a tough time too although she isn't at egg collection stage yet. Sometimes I think that there are people out there who have the easiest time and everything falls on their plate and then there are those of us who have to struggle through but in the end it just makes us stronger0 -
Hi Staffiecat, welcome to the club! We're mostly a merry bunch, despite what we're all going through.
I second what Gin said. Where in the country are you? I know our PCT stipulates you must have been infertile for 2 years before they'll start treatment.
SK x
Hi Sexki11en - a bit of merryness is definately what I am after !!
I received a letter this morning confirming that the policy is 3 years. I am not sure what my options are about being referred elsewhere though.

Staffiecat, please check with your PCT what their criteria is before you self fund. Most PCT's will not treat couples on the NHS who have had a self funded cycle. If you google, you can usually find your PCT criteria - make sure you check the date on it, as most have changed their criteria in (I think) September 2010.
SK xAfter 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j
And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!0 -

OMG I didn't know this. I told my consultant I was planning to do this and she said it would be fine. In fact the minute she realised that I would try and find a way to self fund she became really nice and then offered to treat me privately for half the price !!!!
Thank you!!!0 -

That would make me wonder if she is not after the money and that is why the treatment is only after 3 years. Would you be able to contact your PCT to find out waht are the qualifying criteria for IVF funding? (assuming they checked that your tubes are clear, you are ovulating, etc)Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
It worked - we have one fertilised egg, ET is tomorrow.staffiecat wrote: »Unfortunately my specialist will not refer me for IUI or IVF because of my miscarriage - i have to have been 'infertile' for 3 whole years
 Never heard of that one before (((hugs))).0 -
Yay! Congratulations gin! I know its too early to get overly excited, but no matter what happens its got to be a good sign for the future that you have got as far as this this time round. So pleased for you
staffiecat, hello :hello: and welcome!
Lilo, did you have you're trial embryo transfer today? I'm not sure what that consists of...but hope it went well!
Was thinking it would be useful to have a summary of everyone's situation - didn't you guys use to have this on the first post? Unless lots is going on for someone I tend to forget where they are at IYSWIM.Proud to be a moneysaver! :cool:0 -
Yes great news ginvzt. We'll be keeping everything crossed.
Also welcome staffiecat. I too have heard that if you self fund, you'll struggle to get the NHS funding thereafter. Definitely worth checking it out before you go too far.0 -
Very pleased the egg has made it to emby stage. Hang on in there little emby..0

I managed to work out who my PCT is but couldn't get through to them - will try again on Monday. I also read the NICE guidelines and found a table in the guardian which confirmed my PCT as having a 3 year policy.
My tubes were blocked but are now clear and ever scan i've ever had shows i am ovulating. I do have a high BMI though of 29 which if i have PCOS i need to lose weight. My consultant was awful to me and told me that the reason I miscarried was because I was overweight. She also said that the FSH injections would help me to fall pregnant but my weight would cause multiple miscarriages! What I found out afterwards was that this is actually because of having a bicornuate uterus rather than being overweight. I was physically sick after that. Once we talked about self funding she became really sweet, holding my hand, rubbing my knee, telling me that my weight was absolutely fine !!!!!
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the welcome its nice to finally be able to talk to people who understand (unfortunately)
