    For those of us who have had IVF/ICSI before, was your EC done under GA or Sedation?

    Hi Lisa, I had my EC under sedation. Didn't hurt a bit, I came round after really quickly it was pretty easy going really.

    Lilo, glad to hear you know a path to follow.

    Ginvzt - that all sounds a bit traumatic! Glad it's working out alright now.

    AFM, we had our anomole scan today, and we're having a girl! We get to go back for another scan in a fortnight, as baby refused to get in the right position to see all that needed to be seen on the head. Bonus!

    Keep your eyes on the prize, ladies. You never forget how hard it was, but I for one, have left all the negative feelings behind and am finally enjoying the new part of the journey.

    All the best to everyone.

    Hi Gin - sorry that cyst was an unexpected trauma. But at least they've attacked it now. My friend (whose IVF worked this year) had her first IVF cycle halted so they could attack a cyst. So at least you can carry on. Just a very small bump in the road. Or rather, lump.

    ++++++++

    When the fertility specialist did a transvaginal scan in Sept, she was looking to see if I had any cysts - I had a 2cm one removed in 2008. She couldn't find anything - I was a bit gutted, I wanted a lap and dye, but she said she couldn't justify it, clinically.

    (If I showed up as a private patient, would they just let me have one if I wanted it, or would there still need to be a 'clinical need'? Anyone know?)

    +++++++++

    Lilo - I think you're right to just do what's in your power and see what happens. If you're as nice in person as you are on here, I'm sure they'll make every effort to maximise your chances.

    ++++++++++++

    Lisa - I hope you spend the time before your next procedure de-stressing and being kind to yourself. I've said it before and I'll say it again, get a load of comedy DVDs for Christmas - laughter has been shown to improve success rates (although, I'm guessing after 7 goes you know all of this stuff!)

    If it were me (and I had any cash left after 7 IVF attempts..) I'd also book some spa treatments for early in the new year, maybe some hot stones, or an aromatherapy relaxation treatment, and some acupuncture.

    Come to think of it - maybe I'll do that anyway!!

    I think they'll do it for you so long as you pay:rotfl:
    Some private fertility clinics do lap & dye whether you need it or not if you've been ttc for a while unsuccessfully.

    I asked for HSG, and was given straight away. Now kinda regret not asking for lap & dye:o

    jiblets, its lovely to hear from you, so pleased that everything is going well for you and that your enjoying the next stage in the journey.

    lilo, good to hear things are moving for you, let's hope it's fifth time lucky!

    ginzt, sounds like u had quite a stressful day! hopefully the rest will go smoothly for you

    Q/chickpea why do you want a lap & dye? I thought that was only to detect endo? it'll be my 1st general anesthetic so seems quite a big deal to me, and I wouldn't want it without good reason. or are there other benefits?

    Lisa, good luck for Jan, sounds like you've really earned your stripes!

    Juju, hope u have a lovely relaxing week in Egypt

    I thought it can detect problems and fix it right there and then. Also, a lot of people get pg straight after the procedure:o

    If it was free, I'd do it in a heartbeat:o

    Why would you want to do if it is not necessary? It is a surgery, and there is risk with it. GA is not very nice, at least for me - it took me a while to come back to myself, I was sick, had to stay in hospital overnight. I had two weeks to recover, and it was painful.

    I had HyCoSy first, and only was told I have to have lap & dye as one tube was not flowing and they discovered a cyst which needed to be drained (same one had drained this week).

  • Just having a nosey :)

    I have PCOS and had a lap & dye plus ovarian drilling 12 months into my journey, they wanted to check that my only issue was PCOS. They removed some of the cysts as well, which restored my cycle that had been missing for the previous 2 years.

    Lots of dust and sticky vibes.

    Put quite simply, I want a Lap and Dye because I want a baby! Badly! Any risks associated with a GA are irrelevant to me, against how much I want to get pg - and I'd be willing to undergo a lot worse if I thought it would help...

    Anecdotally, Lap and Dye's are sometimes all that's needed to flush out the pipework down below.

    And...more than just anecdotally, it *seemed* to work for me before - I had a Lap and Dye in Feb 2008 and got pg in May 2008 after 3+yrs 'unexplained infertility' - coincidence, maybe, but I figure it's worth another go if it's possible?

    Oh dear that's terrible:(

    I had GA for my miscarriage op, and it was fine. I realise the GA for lap & dye may be different.
    Like Chickpea, I want a baby so badly, I'd go through anything:o
    HSG didn't find anything wrong, but it's not as reliable as lap & dye.

    Mum had something to flush her tubes as her tubes were blocked after her mmc. She had tried for her #2 for 4 years until they found out it was her tubes. She got pg straight after (me):)

    I thought the 'dye' part from a lap and dye was the same as a HSG, and therefore a HSG would flush you out just as well. I may be wrong though. I do like the idea of a couple of weeks off work though, I actually don't mind being sick much if it means i get to relax and not do much, so long as i don't feel absolutely horrendous.
