We had our first appointment with the fertility clinic yesterday.
They have started tests on DH to find out why there was no sperm showing in his analysis.
Apparently it can be a number of reasons. Chromosones (sp?), hormones, signals from his brain, blockages or sperm diverting somewhere they shouldnt.
They are also going to start tests on me now. The reason for doing this now is that I am 40 in under 5 months and funding will stop when I reach 40.
They want to find out now if there are any problems on my side as by the time DH is sorted it could be too late for me.
I dont know if this is a local NHS rule or if its the same everywhere but please bear it in mind any of you who are getting close to 40 and havent yet gone to see your doctor.
Our local PCT will only fund Ivf (one attempt) up to the age of 39 and then only for couples where both parties have no living children.

Hi everyone,
Sorry it's a BFN juju xxx
Well, I've just had my first acupuncture session, jury is out on what I make of it yet. One thing that is bothering me tho, acupuncturist said that because I am only 29 it is unlikely I would be put on clomid because of risk of multiple pregnancies. She said it is usually IVF in these cases. I actually feel worse now as I thought IVF was last option? What does everyone think?
Hugsto those in need xx0 -
Hi everyone
Juicygirl - she doesn't know what she's talking about! They would always put you on clomid first if you're not ovulating, and if that doesn't work there are other options such as injectibles. In fact, to do IVF they would need to put you on something to make you ovulate anyway!
I'm 29, and the first thing they did was check my hubby's semen (in case there was a problem there too) and give me a hsg to check my tubes were clear (they won't give you clomid if your tubes are blocked because of risk of ectopic), then they gave me the clomid prescription. I wasn't ovulating at all, not even having any periods, and the clomid worked on the second dose. I actually conceived on the second try with clomid, but unfortunately lost it at just under 5 weeks x0 -

I'm obviously no expert, but as I understand it, clomid is the first line treatment for anovulatory infertility and I'm surprised that she felt it professional to speculate on what treatment options would be best suited to you as an individual.
The only person that can really advise you on your treatment options is a fertility consultant. He/she will have access to all your relevant medical history and relevant test results and will be recommending any treatment on what's most suitable for you.
How many lots of blood tests have you had ? I had two lots of bloods a couple of months apart because its quite common not to OV every month.0 -

It was clear, so I can't say 'I told you so' to my doctor, but glad it was OK:o0 -

Fantastic! It is the same day as my first scan with IVF, so I will be counting the days with you.. The injections are not too bad. The bit that hurst a little bit is pushing the needle through the skin - once it is in, it is ok.
Juicygirl - don't listen to the acupuncturist, listen to your doctor. She/he are not qualified to make this decision, and they shouldn't be saying these things. I was 29 (ok, nearly 30) when I was put on Clomid. (I can't believe that was more than a year ago now!!!) And I WAS ovulating - had no issues with ovulation whatsoever. Actually, once they started monitoring the cycles I had more eggs than one maturing (one cycle it was 8!!!). Ok, it didn't work for me. But everyone is different.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
A countdown pal - what fun! Glad it is going okay for you gin, scratch the skin where the needle goes in - it activates the nerve endings and then doesnt notice the needle iyswim - mostly worked for me! I realised today that it is 2 years last Saturday since my last embryo transfer, and the fateful remarks that led to the discovery of the cancer. I cant believe how time has flown.
