Morning ladies, good to see some PMA on here. Fingers crossed for you Jibs. I've not even had my first appointment with the fertility clinic yet (8th sept) so the abbreviations etc on here confuse me but I think I'm getting to grips with it.

My friend has just got PG after her 2nd IVF cycle, she is 9 wks gone now. I went to visit her on friday and was very sad to see she is still smoking and drinking (3 glasses of red in one evening and countless cigarettes). I was really annoyed and told her so but she said she finds it so hard to stop smoking and her doc said red wine was ok!!!!
I still cannot stop thinking about it, surely after you've wanted a baby and tried for so long you would not do anything that would risk harming it?

For me, AF was due 15th July and I started spotting on the 13th. I am still spotting and b o o b s are really sore. am also feeling nauseaus a lot although not actually being sick. Took 2 tests now and both BFN. Went to docs yesterday who asked me to do a PG test for him, get the results on fri. I'm sure it will be a BFN but still, there's a glimmer of hope. He didn't even read my records and so didn;t know we had been referred..!!!

Fingers crossed anyway.............I just hope if I'm not he can stop the spotting before I go on holiday on sunday......

I'm not usually one for posting in here as i'm on the TTC thread but i've been of the same view as your friend. I've found it so hard over the years to give up smoking. But I read your post and felt I had to tell you about my very bizarre couple of days.

Basically, i'd managed to acquire the 'Alan Carr easyway to stop smoking' Audio Book on Sunday. I'm as cynic as they come! I thought i'd listen to it as I'd been told it was amusing. I never thought for one second that i'd be quitting smoking. Once I started listening though I couldn't stop.

Imagine my surprise when Monday morning I woke up and decided I didn't want another cigarette!!! And i've not had one since! I don't feel hardly anything about it either. I've had slight pangs but with the thought process it all goes out the window! None of this pull my hair out, biting my fingernails malarky!!! It really has been easy for me to just go from smoking 20 a day to none. If I can do it without even thinking about wanting to do it, I guess I have to at least advise others to give it a go.

I'm not crazy enough to think that i've stopped for 3 days and so therefore i'm a non smoker. I can honestly say though, I never want to smoke again and not one part of me wants to anyhow. I firmly believe this is it for me and my ex best friend!

Perhaps it is worth a shot for your friend or for anyone else. Hope it helps :)

lilo - hope you're feeling better today

dusty - that is exciting! At least if it comes to nothing, 8th sept really isn't that far away. And I also agree about your friend. A work friend of mine had her baby at the weekend after IVF and she didn't even have a single cup of tea during her pregancy as she was worried about the effect of the caffeine.

    Hello all.

Lilo - how are you? I thought it is only me who gets ill every time on holiday. I hope you are better now!

Nothing much new here. OH is of to hospital this morning to produce a 'sample' and have the blood tests. Then we need to wait for an appointment with the consultant to see what they decide is our way forward. And I am off to Holland for a month with work, so if we are lucky and get an appointment first or second week of September, we might be able to start the 'process' the same month, as my AF should be due around mid-September.

I was looking through the information and forms we received last week, and it states that you MUST call hospital to start your treatment within two months of the the appointment with consultant, or you are stricken off the list (unless you discuss this with them...).

It makes me so cross when I see people smoking and drinking during their pregnancy, especially if you have had IVF and struggled to conceieve. Luckily I don't smoke and I very rarely drink alcohol and leading up to my ICSI I cut out alcohol completely and only drink decaf tea.

I spent all Tuesday morning moving my OH sperm sample from one clinic to another ready for ICSI in September. Just wishing August away now.

Hi, lots of progress for everyone. Thanks for asking gin - went back to the doctors today and they have decided its pneumonia! Oh well, keep taking the tablets. Have got to go for a chest xray though, and on day cd25, so am in a bit of a lather - dont feel preg, so not really an issue I suppose, but you still get the what ifs etc dont you.

Anyone heard from jibs, I hope she is resting up and taking it easy! (and not driving herself nuts on the am I/arent I wagon!)

hey lilo. I'm still am I/aren't I ing. My latest one is that I feel ok today, no kips or tears - is that a bad sign? Who'd have thought feeling good would make me feel bad?
I'm moving out of my house tomorrow, and into our new one on Monday. We're going away Saturday night to try to forget about it all...
    So much to do......

    Hi everyone.

I hope you are all well.
I already posted this on "trying to conceive" forum but they thought I'd be better off getting my advice here. So I've copied it over.

I've always had "woman" problems. I never was regular as a teenager and then in my late teens my periods just disappeared. About 5 years go I finally decided to go to the doctors about it and they put me on the pill to make me bleed.
So roll forward a few years and I've married and decided to have some kids. Of course that was never going to be an easy ride. At first we just tried by ourselves but my periods were few and far between.

Ever since May this year however I've been kind of regular - 21 day cycles at first but now they seem to have gone down to 14 days. Is this normal??? They don't last long, last one was about 2 days of spotting and then 2 days of bleeding. And the bleeding only happens during day time, then it stops and starts again next day. But that last one finished 17th July and I'm already on 2nd day of bleeding again!!!! I think .... as it's morning it's hard to tell what will happen today. :rotfl:

i have gone to the doctors again and I was referred to fertility clinic. I had my initial appointment and we agreed that they would do a hycosy first to see if my tubes are blocked and then probably prescribe clomid. However i can only have hycosy just after I have my period when lining is the thinnest. But with my periods I can't predict when that is going to be. So the nurse has said to come in to get some sort of a pill to bring my period on but she told me this in June when I hadn't been "regular" for long. So do you think I should still go and get the pill because my hycosy is booked for 25th and I can't be sure i will have my period just before then? Or should I let nature take course? Trouble is the appointments for hycosy aren't that available either. They only are done on 2 days of the week and i have to book it quite a few weeks ahead. So I am at loss....
Oh another thing... i'm not meant to TTD between the period and hycosy so when I had a period in June and an appointment pending early July (which I had to cancel eventually as I was in the middle of my period then) we had to stop TTDing for about 5-6 weeks. i did not have a very happy husband, i can tell you that.
    Thanks

Hello kairi - sorry I am not sure what to advise you, but I hope someone else will be able to!

Lilo - back to bed! Take care of yourself, pneumonia is not fun!

I came back home yesterday to find a letter from the hospital inviting me for Ultrasound scan (pelvis). For the August 6th. Which would be next Friday, and I can't make it. In fact - I can't make any dates in August unless it is August 31st. I called hospital this morning hoping to re-arrange the appointment for early September, and the woman on the phone was not very nice and a bit abrupt (maybe it is just me...). She basically cancelled it and told me to call when I am back. I asked if I could set up an appointment for early September, and she said - no, you have to call when you are back.

The thing is, I am not even sure that this appointment is set up by IVF clinic,or just hospital gyn (women's) department. During our evening last week, we were told that once we have our blood tests done (+sperm for men), we will be getting appointment with the consultant to discuss our options, and at no point did they mention that we will also need a scan before hand. On the other hand, when I got my first call to come for appointment to hospital (which was a waste of time, as all I did was sign the form and was told than now they will refer me to reproductive medicine department, when I already had an appointment set up with them), they mentioned I will be getting a scan, but then they decided I will get it later as my appointment was so soon.

We will have to wait and see what happens next.

Hi Kairi. Many of us have faced these sorts of problems with hycosy or HSG. The clinics just aren't generally available, and of course you can't predict exactly what your body will do. Many people are going for these tests purely because they are irregular. Best advice is just to ring them up and see what they are able to do I think.

Investigations are definately worth going through, even though you are more regular now because short cycles can be a concern. If your luteal phase (the time between ovulation and Aunt Flo) then this could mean that fetilised eggs aren't getting the chance to implant before the lining comes away. And there's things they can do about that.

    Welcome to the roller coaster!
