They are pushing more and more for SET (single embryo transfers) especially if you are young and treatment is straight forward, but the reason they usually give is simply to reduce the amount of multiple births, with the higer levels of risk they can present. You can argus this decision with some clinics dependant on age/circumstances.

I am 'only' 32 but with 6 failed cycles under my belt I am pushing for as many as I can get next time round! :-)
    Good luck Jiblets!

Please you appointment went well jibs.

That seems a bit annoying that they are pushing for only one transfer back in. When I had my ICSI I was told that there was a high chance of it taking as I am only 32 so we decided to only have one put back in, we only got one that took in the end anyway so there were no other options, but it failed, but I am hoping this time round to have 2 put back in if I am lucky enough to get to embies.

There does seem alot of stuff going on about twins and the difficulties on various sites.

Hi all - thanks for your good wishes.

The appointment today was exhausting. It really took a long time to run through everything. Lots of consent forms - what will we do with the embryos if one of us dies and whatnot. We're going to do the long protocol - 2 weeks downregging, 2 weeks stimming and onto the egg collection and transfer.

The awkward bit is that the nurses were trying to book a slot when they thought they'd need the lab to be free for me, but my cycle could be anywhere between 30 and 60 days, so we can't pick a month let alone a week when my period will start!
So we've bought all our drugs and when I next get a period I need to ring up the nurses to see if that's the good time to start the drugs (I'm going to do CD1 not CD21), or if I need to take the pill for a a week or 2 to delay the start, or if I need to take the pill to make my period come.

The thing that did surprise me is that the consultant said that they are likely to only implant one embryo, as the stats on losing twins well into the pregnancy (around 21 weeks) are moderately high. So if my embryos are good quality they'll just put the one in.
I think I'm a little disappointed with that, because I was a little bit hoping that one big IVF push and we could have a fully formed family, but it doesn't look like it's going to be that way...
So hopefully within a month we'll be started!

Is it a funded cycle ? Our Health Authority will only allow SET for NHS cycles - I don't know if this is a national thing tho. Do they do a five day blastocyst transfer at your clinic ?

I am so happy for you that the appointment went well!

I know I would prefer having 2 implanted if it came to that. Yes, there are risks associated with multiple pregnancies, but they there are also risks with IVF treatment, and which is worse - having a twin pregnancy or having to go through another round of IVF again if the first one doesn't work? And if the first one did work (SET), then the second one would not be funded by NHS.

    Have a nice weekend everyone!

We're going self funded on this one. We'll still be able to have our NHS goes if this one doesn't work. I don't know how I feel about just transferring one embryo, I'll have to have a good read and a good think about if I want to push for two.
They do do a five day blasto transfer, the consultant said the embryologist would weigh up the risk each day to see if it was worth waiting the five days or putting in earlier.
Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o

    I lost my voice!!!!!!

Honestly, I can't speak - my soar throat went away, and then my voice went as well.... I was visiting friends this weekend and it was getting worse yesterday afternoon, and I was not talking this morning. I had this few years ago, and a few days of not talking will sort it. It is going to be funny at work tomorrow, when I won't be able to answer any of my colleague's questions (and I am sure he will have a lot) or talk to my manager - especially as I need to tell/ask him that i will need half day off in two weeks (for the potential day 11 scan of next cycle) as he is going on holiday next week and we are supposed to have a client for training...

I am noticing some sort of pattern - I seem to get coughs/sneezes/colds/something and it always seems to happen on the second half of my cycle. I letting my imagination run wild (could this be the reason that we are still ttc?...)
