    It does not seem like 2 weeks has gone by. Sorry Lucy. Is it too early to ask if/when you will try again?

    So sorry Lucy, that's so disappointing. It's heart-breaking when it fails.

    ++++++

    SK - I think I'd be a good candidate for IVF, but it's been veto-ed by DH, and he may have a point. I think we've had all the treatment we're going to have!

    ++++

    Smookl - OK, I'm not a scientist, but there is a lot of scientific research out there into the effects of sugar on fertility.

    In a nutshell, sugar stimulates insulin release, and insulin - which is a hormone - can, in excess disrupt the sensitive hormone interplay involved in the reproductive process.

    I can't remember all the interactions, but, for example, insulin stimulates your adrenal gland to release cortisol, which is an androgen and can suppress progesterone.

    It's particularly bad for you if you have PCOS - which I don't - or are extremely overweight - which I'm not, well, not 'extremely, BMI is 28 - but I reckon sugar's bad for everyone.

    There have been IVF studies where outcomes are much better when a high-protein, low-carb diet is consumed. A glucose-rich/insulin-rich environment is bad for eggs and bad for fertilisation. If you Google it, there's lots of supporting studies/articles. Refined sugar is worst of all, but I'm personally shying away from all carbs, except for the odd indulgence maybe once a fortnight (like a few glasses of wine/ice cream etc.)

    And of course, weightloss is a useful side effect of a low-carb diet and weightloss alone is demonstrably good for fertility!

    So sorry it was a BFN lucy, gutted for you :( Take care of yourself and OH xx

    I had some lovely new nephew cuddles tonight, I love the wee fella to bits, but tend to feel a bit deflated after seeing him, then feel silly for being sad. I think it's just because he is so new-I can spend hours with my 2 and half year old niece just fine.
    Another trip to the hospital tomorrow for another scan and they will decide what lovely drugs they will hit me with next. I'm really feeling the effects of the prostap this time, not done much the last few days apart from cry or sleep.

    Chickpea-thanks for all the info on diet, since our last round failed I have made huge changes to my diet, cut out refined sugar and caffeine, which has led to me shifting 23 lbs and I feel so much better. A huge load of the weight I have lost was put on during treatment. I'm away to look for more info on carbs as I have been counting calories and haven't a clue how many carbs are in stuff.
  • So sorry about your BFN Lucy :( awful news.
