The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Conceive when its just not happening (12m+)

I've come out of my lurking to moan (hope that's ok and sorry to those also on ttc thread who've heard me moaning already!)
My period is 3 weeks late, I've had 3 BFN (last one on Tuesday) and I'm feeling really down about it today. I have pcos but periods have always been pretty regular and now its disappeared...I had 3 days of very very light spotting, not even really enough for a pad when AF was due, and since that not a dot.
I'm surrounded by pregnancy announcements and such like, and its really getting me down now. Weve had 2 babies born in our immediate family in last 2 months, our best friends have a baby due in 3 weeks and another close friend is due in September. I'm distancing myself from it all and that makes me feel awful.
I'm really not coping well at the moment...
Loulou - I feel your pain. My period has disappeared, and you really can't help the overwhelming hope that suddenly appears. I was so stressed and excited to test, and then nothing. And nothing since... nothing... I even ended up going for a blood HCG test and it's come back negative.
I'm not coping well either. The one thing I had was a reliable period, ov on CD 12-13 every month without fail, and now I feel properly broken. Doctors aren't much help, just saying it's not menopause, it's not stenosis (which you can't have), it's just 'something that will probably resolve itself'. I'm back on accupuncture and TCM and the chinese doctor is confident she can get me back on track. I'll let you know how it goes.
hugs though. It's a new and freshly painful curveball for me too.0 -

Aargh peonie, that horrible moment when you're staring at the phone thinking "have I really just done that". Hopefully she'll just ignore it.0

Peonie - oh dear (and I'm sorry but that did make me giggle).
Loulou / Time2Deal - Hugs to you both. I know what it's like when you feel like AF has disappeared so I sympathise with you.
I've started doing what I said I wouldn't do - google the HSG and get myself into a state.
I'm the type of person that needs to know the details of what will happen (I don't like not knowing) but then I scare myself. So I was wondering if any of you that have had a HSG would mind telling me what to expect.
The silly kind of things I'm thinking of are:- how long are you there for?
- how long does the actual procedure take?
- who does it? Is it a doctor or just the radiologist? Was it a man or a woman?
- how many people are there? Is there also a nurse there?
- did you take pain medication?

Fannyanna - I was there a total of about an hour and the procedure took about 20 mins. I have a tilted cervix and so they struggled for a bit. It was mostly uncomfortable and was more painful when they flushed the dye through which didn't take long. I had a nurse holding my hand and talking to me all the way through which really helped. There were 3 people in the room all were female. I honestly didn't find it too bad but took paracetamol before and after.0

Thanks Primmer.
Wow, an hour of someone fiddling with your bits
Edit: Or was the fiddling bit just the 20 minutes? If so, what did they do during the other 40 minutes?0 -

Sorry to hear your in same position, I haven't gone to docs yet, so I'm still in the situation where I'm (stupidly) clinging onto the hope I actually am pregnant and for some reason the tests just aren't showing it!
Like you I was always happy to have a normal cycle but now even that's been taken away by looks of it, I'm just praying that things return to normal this month and its just been a blip.
Hope all the things you are trying help out, ny next stop is to go to docs I guess.
Big hugs xx0 -
Fannyanna, my HSG was 3 years ago, so can't remember clearly, but:
- how long are you there for? About 10 mins.
- how long does the actual procedure take? About 5 mins.
- who does it? Is it a doctor or just the radiologist? Was it a man or a woman? Male radiologist and a female nurse.
- did you take pain medication? Yes, panadol extra strong about 30 mins or so before.
Bring your own pad with you, as the dye will come out from you know where for a day or so.0 -
Fannyanna, I was there for the time to take a pg test, waiting room time, time to get changed into the gown, go through the paperwork and sign and get set up in position on the table/bed, then the procedure was maybe 10-20 mins, but only so long because they couldn't get the dye through and tried a few angles and an IV drug.
There was a male radiologist/nurse (who was lovely and didn't unnecessarily go near my bits), a female nurse or two (can't remember if there was one or 2 but they were also lovely, held my hand, turned phd the AC when I got cold), and a female doctor radiologist - she was nice but had to call in her supervising doctor when the dye wouldn't go through. The supervising doc was also nice. I could see the screen and they explained it for me.
I took ibuprofen half hr before and may have taken another later for some mild cramping.
They didn't unnecessarily expose me, used lots of paper sheets to preserve the modesty they could. I expected pain cos my smears are usually painful, but this wasn't much more than uncomfortable (although I think she caught some skin on the release of the speculum, that wasn't too pleasant).
Good luck and stop googling!
