I would agree:D, and it is wise person who knows the limitations of their expereince in any field,;) fortunately that clearly does not refer to me in the area of child rearing or life experience. I have 4 children ranging in age from 24 to 12, including one Lawyer, one at Law school, one Teacher, and I work with teens day in day out too.

How many do kids you have?

And as for life experience, I have quite a lot of that too, in many spheres, so, do I feel qualified to comment?....you bet I do.;)

    1. I have 3
    2. I wasn't talking about you

(But if you automatically thought that I was - perhaps that says something about your computer useage?!)

No matter who you were talking to, you seem to assume that you are the best parent in the world. Wrong - no one is perfect!

And re: computer usage, your very first post on this thread was a sarcastic, patronising reply to the OP with nothing of relevance to the question she actually asked. So maybe take a look at your own computer usage and attitude before you moan about anyone elses. :)

Are you 12 years old or something?

Seriously, you need to get a grip. I haven't assumed anything about my parenting. The only conclusion I've come to is that you seem to know absolutely nothing about bringing up kids or what's appropriate.

When you've actually got something consructive to say.....I'll be listening. Although I appreciate it may take you some time to come up with something? Don't worry though - it will come eventually. :T

And it never ceases to amaze me how there are some people on these boards who are under the assumption that they are somehow qualified to comment on what is appropriate when raising a child when it's obvious that they are completely oblivious to what it actually entails.

I completely agree with you - it probably comes down to having too much time on their hands. Switching off the computer and going outside and acquiring some more life experience would probably benefit.

Somebody could go online just once a year and post a load of drivel though, couldn't they?

I have to say, there are only two posters on here who come across as thinking they know it all, and one of them is you!

I don't "know it all" and I never said I did. I do however know what is or isn't appropriate. If you think that someone stating an opinion on ONE subject insinuates that they know everything about everything, then there's no real answer to that!

I also know I shouldn't allow myself to get riled by idiots on t'internet......

I heard someone swearing at their kids in the supermarket on Monday night. Hardly the crime of century either, but it doens't make it right.

And they didn't mention it as a "passing fact", they highlighted it as evidence to support their stance on their parenting skills. Teaching a child to speak to anyone in such an insulting manner is setting them up for failure in later life. I'd like to see how funny a future employer would find such behaviour.

Bring your children up with respect and teach them respect in turn.

I think you'll find you've made quite a few comments about raising children. :o

And no, not 12. As I've said in previous posts, I am actually in a very responsible job, directly working with children, funnily enough ;)

You don't seem to have any sort of flexibility when it comes to 'right' or 'wrong' - in my job, for example, I work with children from all different backgrounds. If a child from a less than fortunate background with a lot of previous issues says to me 'Here, gonnae geez that pencil over please?' - do I chastise him for addressing me with 'here'? Do I pull him up on his style of language? No, firstly I concentrate on praising him for the use of 'please', because it is outwith his normal behaviour.

No I don't have kids of my own, but I know that when I do, I will work on being authoritative, not authoritarian. :o

And, to repeat what I said in a previous post, we will need to agree to disagree, I was quite happy to leave it at that :)

Quite! There is nothing to get riled about, so why are you?

You have one opinion and a few other people have a different one.

Nothing wrong with that - it is a difference of opinion, simple as.

You seem unable to accept alternate views to your own - why is that? Surely you don't teach your children to disregard other opinions...?

    1. You quoted my post, that is usually an indication of where your comment is directed.

    2. My computer usage is restricted to short bursts, and your post count is not exactly insignificant either, so maybe if the cap fits?

You come across as quite judgemental, and lacking in a sense of perspective in this instance. The use of the word "div" is not indicative of anything more than banter between close family members in the context it was given on this thread, so quite why you took exception to it is a mystery to me.

I would agree that swearing atchildren in a superamrket is indicative of deeper issues, but the two are not comparable imo.

Seriously will you lot doing all the complaining about name calling and parenting skills bog off somewhere else and stop ruining the OPs thread! I'd rather not have to trail through all your rubbish to read the replies that are actually related to the thread!

Tough! this is a forum, and that means that threads move on and off topic as different people respond and other strands are drawn out. I suspect it will move back OT when all posters are happy to do so, I also suspect that may not be as soon as you may wish.

Perhaps you should "bog off"....(delightful turn of phrase, and posibly actually more pertinent to the discussion:rolleyes: than you may realise) to another thread till that happens?:D
