well yes it was a productive talk ...but then yesterday i nearly had a wobble ...my laptop is old and knackered and keeps freezing on me etc ...so i was looking at buying a new one ...dell had one with £555 off (still £900 though) so i spoke tonephew who said it was a great buy and i should go for it phoned dell they were gonna give me 1 years interest free to buy it phoned hubby he said well yeah you know our money situation if you think we can afford it go for it
That's exceedingly expensive - this one was only £300.
First thing to try, is sweep your computer free of malware.
Second thing is a complete reinstall. You'll be amazed how much quicker it'll go after that."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Use a memory tester first - assuming it's OK, then you need to reinstall - from scratch.
An external hard disk/USB key makes it a lot easier - copy your data files on it."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Download the file ending in .ISO
Double-click on it.
It should automagically open up your cd burner software - Roxio or Nero or something similar.
Burn it to a blank CD.
Reboot your laptop with that CD in the drive - your machine should then boot from that CD - if it doesn't, try hitting escape just after your machine first sticks writing on the screen, but before windows boots - it should give you a menu of where to boot from.
Let the memory checker run. No news is good news - bad news is usually in red..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
