Jenny- all the police officers I know with children either have one parent as a stay at home parent, use family for childcare or are both police officers, in which case it is possible for one to go down to four shifts on, six off so someone is always at home IYSWIM. I haven't had any success finding very flexible childcare round here, but I guess it does exist in most cases.
That is crap about the Paternity Leave. My hubby was doing training when we got married and he was only allowed seven days off, including the day of the wedding so we had to have our honeymoon at a later date. They are totally inflexible when it comes to training.
My friend's OH is a copper, and she works in an office but does flexi-time so on the days he is working lates, she fetches the kids from school, but he takes them in the morning, and vice versa. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

yeah I guess but because I'm going and not coming back after mat leave they are being a bit funny with me about stuff like insisting I follow policy with stuff when it's never been a problem before
I'm really fed up with work and starting to worry about the number of people that I know at the various surgeries who are currently being treated for swine flu - I know I've not got it but I keep thinking it's only going to be a matter of time before I do get it!
I've had to send 3 people home from work and just think in my job I can't avoid it!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Ah Glam, sounds like they are being a bit unfair treating you like that. Though you could take is as a compliment that they are upset at losing you.
Not quite sure what to make of this swine flu, but it's upset my plans for the day. Mum and dad were coming to take me out to a crafty shop having an offer and demo day today but when they went to Tesco yesterday the man on the till was coughing and spluttering all over them, the food and everything else in his near vicinity. Therefore, they have decided not to take the risk with baby and are staying away from me until they know it is ok.
Hopefully they are playing it safe and not overreacting but I think it is pretty poor in the current situation for Tesco to risk putting someone with a cold/flu on a till. Apart from the fact it could spread colds and stuff anyway and is pretty hideous to handle peoples food when you've just used a snotty hankerchief, the media seem to be scaremongering and people will just go into panic mode as if they aren't already.
Hope you stay healthy Glam, and once they release this Swine Flu phone number perhaps patients will realise the risk and just stay at home and ring that instead... she says optimistically.

nah, folk are idiots, they will still go in with symptoms even though they have been told not too. And you know fine well that once diagnosed they will still nip to asda/shop/pub etc.0

the worst thing is I've had to send a GP, a nurse and a receptionist home (you'd think they would have known better than to come in!)
It's very difficult because there is nothing to say 'THIS IS SWINE FLU' and 'THIS IS NORMAL FLU/COLD' so GP's are being very overcautious and once someone is on anti-viral treatment they have to have 7 days off work, The silly thing is the anti-viral will only work if it is swine flu so if someone has regular flu and they have Tamiflu they could still catch swine flu off someone a few weeks later
I know I could catch it anywhere but I don't think I'm in the best job to avoid it completely!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
