Sugar - good luck!! Half of what I had wanted had totally disappeared, including the cutest of the nursery things
. Definitely check back in 2-3 days as they tend to reload stock right about then and you can get a load of new/more stuff.

Hi everyone - I'm due in 4 weeks and having a panic as OH found out on Thursday that he's being made redundant in 4 weeks - great timing. As he's only been there 5 years his payout is hardly worth it so thought I'd join you all in the hope that you can help me save some pennies as my maternity pay won't even pay the mortgage. OH is a plumber so I'm hoping he'll find work soon0

Hopalong, welcome! Plumbers are the sorts of people whose skills are always in demand so don't worry too much.
Do you still have much to buy? Do you have stuff you can ebay? Have you seen the OS board?
So many questions. Good luck
Edit so as not to add a new post: still waiting for the Next site. Hmph.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
Three gifts left to buy0 -
Hi hopalong and welcome. Not the best news to be receiving. Does your OH have any income protection insurance? Can you take a 6mth mortgage holiday
til you go back to work? Can you go back early?
If you stick your details into entitledto.com it will give you an idea of any benefits you may be able to claim when baby is here.
As you say, as a plumber he should be able to get work easier than someone with no trade.
Try not to worry to much, the last thing you want is money stress to overshadow the birth of you baby. Is it your first?
Edit: don't forget to add yourself to the EDD list0 -
SS I waited 20 mins, just got in now, theres nothing I want to buy at all!
Edit: Jobbies! found some things to buy then it emptied my basket and threw me out. Not waiting to get back in, obviously not meant to spend money on stuff I don't need today!0 -
Thanks Sugarspun and csh.
It is our first baby and thats why I think we're so upset about the redundancy - we were looking forward to the fact that we were in a position to afford a little one.
Our job today is to check whether we have payment protection on our mortgage - we cancelled it about 12 months ago on credit cards in a bid to save money and we can't remember whether we chose to opt out of payment protection on our mortgage in a bid to save money stupidly thinking our jobs were safe.
If necessary I can go back early - I'm a teacher and the original plan was for me to have about 10 months of maternity leave.
Thankyou for that link I'll go and have a look - I've no idea what we might be entitled to as we've never been entitled to anything before.
Thankyou too for the Ebay reminder - I've never sold on Ebay, think I get too carried away buying.
How do I add myself to the EDD list? Sorry brain isn't working just yet0 -
Hopalong: Have you claimed the HIP grant? Also if you do end up being entitled to more than the basic CTC or WTC you can also claim the Sure Start maternity grant of £500, you can claim this up to 3 mths after the birth so you'll have time to see how your finances stack up :-)
Instructions for adding to the list
If you want to add yourself to the list follow these steps:- Click on the link at the top of this page that says "Last" (it'll take you to the last page of the discussion)
- Scroll down until you find the message with the very latest copy of the list in (if you use one further up the discussion other peoples' changes after that will be lost)
- Copy that (highlight it and click control+c)
- Click reply at the bottom of the thread to open a screen where you can past it (click control+p)
- Add yourself to the list then click save
- And don't feel shy. Introduce yourself, say hello and ask a question if you need to.

Tink - I've got everything corssed that either you go into labour today, one way or another, as someone else said, make sure you let us know how you get on with baby and FIL!
Welcome hopalong  Glamazon posted a few good links yesterday, if you can find them - one is a SMP calculator so will show you what you will be paid every payday0
