She hasn't paid me yet, but it's got to be said she doesn't seem in any particular hurry so I have bought the mattress anyway because I am in a hurry. I really want it this week whilst I am at home to receive it. It took her a week to even question why I was trying to charge her 3 times the expected postage and a further 3 days to give me a different address to send it to.
So, as you can imagine, I'll be in no hurry to send it out to her, especially as I am on sick leave so can't be seen to be shopping or visiting the post office.
I hope the quality is good, but for that price I thought it was worth the risk. The cheapest one my local Mothercare 'Range' (i think that meant keep in stock) is £25 so I'm prepared to take the chance on the cheap one. If it's not any good, I'll resell it and drive to another town to get a different one.
Jillie - thank you. I am happy to let them get the experience with me in return for having them to talk to and offer support. I've already mentioned it to the midwife who said that they would bite my hand off for the opportunity. My fave midwife also said that she hopes to be there too, she is at the hospital full time apart from one community day so I'm hoping we get lucky enough to see her there too.

Hi all,
Am now quite scared about labour! Normally I look at a corner and end up bruised so bit concerned about what I am going to be like after labour!!
Ah well, I have another 5 months or so to prepare myself!
Just wanted to ask some advice, I work at my local hospital and tried to chase up my 16wk appt today (16 wks on friday) for my triple test etc as I'm sure my MW said I wd receive one, and then to book an appt with her, but when I went up to the clinic and spoke to the MW there she told me I just need to go to my doctors or pathology for a blood test on the 18th August without an appt. She made me feel a bit silly for asking, and asked if I knew what the triple test was and said I shouldn't be having any tests i don't understand, but I'm sure i was told would get an appt. Is this normal?
Also a bit paranoid that people think I'm a school age mum as I'm sure when I was in London at the wk end an old lady was giving me dissapproving looks. Had a great weekend apart from that and falling down the steps at Marble Arch tube station (had bought 6 inch heels and forgotten how off balance I am now). Also, in the evening kept getting offered seats on the tube as I was so bloated looked really pg, was great but now concerned I will be the size of a house by XMas!
Hope everyone is OK xxBoots: £107.xx on AC :j

Wow thanks for all the after-birth stories ladies! That's been really useful. I guess you spend so much time thinking of the pregnancy and the actual birth and then having your little one that the bit immediately after the birth doesn't get much thought time!
I did have some other things to mention... but can't remember what after imagining my foof hanging down to my knees and my insides falling out of it :eek:0 -
I don't have many close friends to offer to be there, but my best friend has offered to be there. However she's not had a baby or seen one be born, despite the fact she did do a yr of training to be a nurse, before failing one of the exams, and has worked as a dental nurse for 8 years, and has had various part time jobs in care homes! So i know she's unlikely to pass out on me or anything :rotfl:
Not sure why i worry that she might not be the best person to have with me, but i'm glad its an option and am v.grateful. It might put her off ever having her own
However with my sister hopefully babysitting, and my mother most likely out of her face on wine , it's looking more likely.
Is it normal that i'm panicking about everything so soon, i was alright when OH was here but with him gone it keeps hitting me hard that i'm going to go into labour alone and he'll be out somewhere no doubt with some new tart by then. I think it's still all too raw (the breakup) and hoping it'll get easier. I was so much stronger first time i did all this, i wasn't fazed by any of it and certainly didn't overthink it all!
Argh.Sorry that turned into a self pitying rant. Will go slap myself now:eek:

harley I havent read back so forgive me if I have the wrong end of the stick but there was supposed to be a student MW at my birth (HBs are a rare oportunity for students so they jump at the chance aparently) my MW arranged for her to meet me twice and she didn't turn up with no explanation either time
so don't pin your hopes on one being there

yeah, not very sensible, but these are usually my day to day wear so that I appear to be about 5 ft 4!
Please don't ever worry about having a rant, you have every right to and we are all here to help and support each other in whatever seems to be going wrong/ worrying us. Wish I could be more helpful or supportive but not very good at agony aunt stuff
Big hugs xxBoots: £107.xx on AC :j

Ah Beenie, I don't think we'd be normal if we weren't at least a little bit worried about doing it alone.
I've been trying really hard not to think about it up until now, but with 6 weeks to go its about time I gave it some consideration I think.
I'm not too sure about mates helping either. They have both been through it before, but for some reason I'm not jumping at their offers. Though I haven't turned them down either.
But I'm now worried about who will help me stand up in the shower, or get up out of the bath if I need to sit down. And I'm pretty certain that I wouldn't want either of my friends to have to do this.
Anyone got a magic wand so that I can just 'abracadabra' this baby out?lol

Glam, are you there
OH thought he had hayfever last night - not sure why as he doesn't suffer from it, but he had a bad runny nose and the sneezes. He's just phoned from work to say he now has a bad cough, sore throat and generally feeling below par. I've sent him off to the nearest chemist to buy a thermometer and take his temp. If he has a temp though and is possibly infected with swine flu, what does that mean for me at 32+ 3? I don't have any symptoms of anything at the moment, but we've been ahem intimate during the incubation period, so I'm guessing if he has it, I'm likely to get it too. Any suggestions?
They aren't giving prophylaxis treatment to anyone - however, if you display any symptoms I would suggest getting straight onto the helpline number I posted earlier. Even being in the same household is a risk so I wouldn't worry about being intimate
OH will need to contact helpline if he's temp is greater than 38.4 (make sure he's not just taken something that would lower his temp like paracetamol)jillie1974 wrote: »beenie- cats always come back when you least expect it!!
sarahjane- glad you got the scan!!
suzy- major labour vibes!!!
arnica tablets- when do i need to take them??
I will be taking
30c 2 tablets 3 times a day – 3 days before
30c 2 tablets every 2 hours – up to 6 doses
30c 2 tablets 3 times a day – 5 days after
Well, AQUANATAL and Parentcraft were both crap
Aquanatal was just stretching and no real aerobic work like last week (diff MW) but I'll carry on going.
Parentcraft - normal MW was off so we had 40mins of a MW talking off a sheet of paper. Supposed to be 2hrs and really interactive - am hoping it's better this week. We just covered what to expect when starting labour - stuff I already knew thanks to MSE!!!
Next week in pain relief.
Got talking to a couple afterwards who seemed nice so OH wants to get talking to them again next week. Will be nice to make friends who are in the same situation.
MW talked about 6hr discharge if u want or u can stay overnight as long as no problems. She said that althoguh ward security was good it was mum's responsibility to take baby into the bathroom everytime you go - push them in the cot and OH can only stay between 9 and 5 if I have to stay on the ward which is a bit crap.
Option to pay for a private room - she said £35 but I thought this was cheap so not sure if it's for the night. You can only ask for a room when you are there though incase they are full and if you get a room and then someone comes in who needs it you get turfed out but don't need to pay.
Right off to watch a film with OH now - just got myself some Doritos for later!
Glad all the scans went well and thanks to the parent thread ladies responses to Jillie's question.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
