actually what does happen after the birth?? do you go for a shower etc etc
after i had jackson, the midwives left us alone for a cuddle and to breastfeed. after about half an hour i got up to have a shower and what seemed like pints of blood poured out of me, i was so embarassed at the mess i had made, i tried to help them clean up but i was in too much pain. so when you do go for a shower remember to hold some absorbant pads / towels under you!0 -

That's a very good question Jillie! I hadn't even thought about after pains before. And OH was asking if the baby sleeps on the ward with mum, and I assumed that did happen, but really not sure.
JM - thanks for that tip. Any more would be welcome!0 -

We got these ones. They're really sturdy.
We need someone to come back and tell us what happens once baby's here. Does your OH mind baby whilst you have a shower?:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
Thanks GISI, hadn't even thought about what would happen after. Guess I could ask a student midwife to step in and look after baby whilst I sort myself out. And what about food and stuff, do they bring you a tray like if you were in there ill or do you go off to a dining room, and if so what do you do with baby?
Oh god, I should have been asking this ages ago. Maybe I should rethink having a birthing partner.

I think I had my shower after my vbac while the midwives had taken baby off to give her her bath, weigh her, do her footprints, etc. There is some admin that has to be done (some of it just plain old security stuff to stop someone walking off the ward with your baby ), but they usually wait for a while to let you have cuddles and breastfeed if you want, before they whisk baby off to do that.
But there isn't any reason why your OH couldn't look after the baby while you have your shower, if that's what you wanted.0 -
there lovely gisi
there are some on argos websire and the top 2 drawers are like that...
we want a chest of drawers that will do a good few years as baby grows up.

just wondering...'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Hey ladies!!
In response to Jillies question.
I had an epidural and as soon as I could walk I wanted to go for a shower!! At our hospital they leave you alone for minimum an hour after the birth (as soon as they have checked baby is okay etc) so after that the MW came in and asked how I was doing and checked on my epidural. My delivery suite had an en-suite so I went in there with hubby and a stool because I was still really wobbly.
The midwife stayed with Benjamin (I think!!)
You need to get cleaned up - I had been in labour for 23 hours so I was pretty minging!!
I stayed in overnight and waited until hubby came in to get a shower the next day because I didn't want to leave Benjamin on his own.
Is that what you wanted to know?
Edit - Harley - food and stuff whilst you are in labour...make sure you have some snacks and drinks with you.
After you have given birth the last thing you are thinking about is eating! At my hospital you gave your order in the morning for what you wanted throughout the day...then you had to go to the day room and pick it up but you could take it back to your bed to eat it. It depends on whether you are in a ward or a private room as to whether you have to leave baby alone or not...
Regardless of whether you have a birthing partner or not they will not necessarily be with you after you have given birth (depending on what time of day it is etc)please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120
