But don't use Lavendar whilst pregnant - even the bubble baths. Am sure it's not good but can't remember why!

Something about increasing likelihood of miscarriage in 1st trimester? But also found a mention about 'causing' preterm labour but no official/scientific website to validate that, so I take all these anecdotes with a grain of salt.

    Lavender (Lavandula officinalis)
calming for nervous tension and stress
antiseptic for perineal tears postpartum (do not apply oil undiluted)
    avoid high doses.

Unsuitalbe in pregnancy as the muscle relaxant in it can cause premature labour.

There you go girls something else to try for those bumps that dont wanna shift.

Thanks Aless and Kav - i knew there was some reason!

I keep seeing Blue Cohosh and Black Cohosh as herbs to bring on labour but I don't know enough about these and I think they are only to be used on due date. Would think it would be something u got from a Homeopath

Tried it Kavinam - it didn't work :(

But then nothing else is working either. Maybe everything I'm doing's stopping everything else from working :rotfl:

I hope your needle sticks aren't too bad tomorrow - I'd be raging if the midwife forgot to sign mine!

Edit: Glam, the information I found on blue cohosh says it's an abortificient

That's interesting - I was sure it's on the list of helpful essential oils for PG and birth (in my water birth book) Maybe it was just for the final stage then as you prepare for labour?

I am super pi**ed of with her but mainly cause i have to go on my own tomorrow morning. The bloods have to be taken tho.

My mum swears by castor oil and pineapple when overdue two out of her 5 pregnancies went overdue and this worked on both.

    Everyone is different tho.

SS - OMG!!!:eek::eek::eek: It was just on that website.

Emmenagoges are a family of herbs that have a strong action uterine stimulant action. They include such herbs as Black Cohosh, Blue Cohosh and Motherwort. They can be considered useful herbs during the last few days of your pregnancy to help stimulate uterine contractions. These herbs should not be taken during pregnancy except unless under the supervision of your midwife or naturopath or during labor

That is the reason why I posted the links where I found the information so that people can make up their own minds about what to take! I always try and find at least 3 or 4 different websites that say the same sort of thing before doing anything! (Including getting racing tips when I go to the races)

Kav - I fainted once cos she told me she'd finished doing the bloods and when I looked she was drawing the needle out!
Am fine now as long as I don't look but with the daily insulin and blood sugar checks I'm used to them now

I imagine once the baby's at term it'll bring on labour rather than be harmful, but before the EDD I wouldn't take it.

From reading what Kav linked to - it does say when contractions start have a bath with Lavendar Oil. As it can bring on pre-term labour I'm sure it's fine in the latter stages when you want to go into labour!

Things like Castor Oil, Pineapple and Curries just give you the runs which is supposed to stimulate your insides into pushing

    TMI:

Nothing is giving me the runs at the moment :(

I'm tempted to start eating something I know will give me food poisoning.

I've been taking baths with Lush's little lavender bath people in, but I don't think they're lavendery enough to have an effect.
