Re: rude sonographers - there seems to be a lot of people about (none that I've noticed on here though!) that see the scan as a "fun" occasion that is purely so they can have a look at the baby. I've seen quite a few chavvy teenagers waiting for scans with their best mate giggling and messing around with their phones - a couple I saw at the clinic once were even sniggering because there were condoms on the reception desk! I can see that regular encounters with people who are like this may jade many a professional. Having said that, I most certainly don't think everyone should be judged as having a caveliar attitude towards the health of their unborn child! I would have found it most insulting too Carla.

I worried when the right time was to ask and yes, it was something we wanted to know but I still cried with relief when I got out because nothing life-threatening was picked-up on the scan!

Phew- ironing done :j Bathroom to clean and floors to mop still though..I'm making up for yesterday where I basically did FA all day!!

I wanted to find out the sex of my baby beacause I wanted a girl and thought if it was a boy then Id have plenty of time to get my head around it and stand more of a chance of bonding with him..well I am having a boy and Im sooo over wanting a girl (untill Tia posts links of pretty little dresses :rotfl:) So it was a good thing for me to do, weve named him already (Ethan) and when I think of him I think of him as Ethan if thats makes sense!
love my little man he is amazing :j

SS - I went to a nappy lady demonstration on Saturday and was so pleased I did because I got to feel and see all the different nappies available. One thing they did say about bumgenius was that it doesn't have as much protection from wetness than two part nappies which makes sense and that the waterproofness on the outside can go quite quickly due to washing so much (with a separate wrap you only wash it every 4-5 changes). I have to say I was please with their recommendation for us and that we shall probably get our nappies from there (the majority if not all of them) with our 5% off for getting advice from them.

Thanks Karen - that's good to know. Apparently you can re-waterproof them with Nikwax, like you'd use on your hiking boots :rotfl:Lanolin is also supposed to work - it ruined my favourite maternity vest when it leaked through my bra and stained the fabric through four boil washes, so I'm guessing it works pretty well!

Husband wasn't into the idea of reusables because of the ick factor, but likes the idea of not generating tons of waste and spending several fortunes over two years.

That's exactly the same for me! Even down to the name (though not set in stone). Our due dates are very close too!

karen & SS - be careful b/c there 2 different types of Bum Genius. karen, I think you're talking about the all-in-ones which are just 1 part (but different sizes) so don't hold up as well as you said. I think SS was talking about the one-size (but they are 2 PARTS) nappies which are quite different. So confusing! :p

    Thanks Sarah.

DH off to work in a bad mood because he is running later after dropping the kids off with his mum who offered to take them for a few hours so I could get a rest. Not that I'm being picky, but the reason she gave was that she didn't get a rest when she was pregnant (didnt want to point out that when she was pregnant with the third she was so ill that Dh and his older brother were taken into car untill the new baby was 2 months old). Anyway...

Lil lady hasn't moved today, I've had one little wriggle where she moved a leg and that's it. So I'm off to lie down and poke her. If no responce I'm going to call the hospital because this has been a few days now. Got day care tomorrow morning but don't want to wait that long. Although I wonder if I can actually drive myself up there...

You're welcome Tia. It's been really interesting reading the birth stories. Might get OH to look too at some point but don't want to scare him!!

Hope you get some movement soon.

I'm going home to now to finish packing up ready for the big move tomorrow!! Whoop whoop!

Poke that baby Tia! I hope she reassures you soon.

Thanks aless, I was talking about the one-size ones with the removable bit. I think you have to wash the whole thing every time, but from what I understand unless the outside part is dirty that goes on a cold wash, and the liners go in a hot wash.

She has decided to give a few little kicks, in the style of 'oh sod off mum and leave me alone!'.

DH was more frightened when I had DS2, he was awake and saw what was going on. I was asleep and missed most of it. I also missed what happened with DS2, he had a rough ride and they weren't sure if he would make it those first 24 hours. We underestimate how much it can affect Dads because they tend to bottle it all up, but they go through it all too, might not feel the pain, but they worry about you and the baby, yet they are often sidelined during and after the birth.
  • I have no idea what Cub is up to today... not much movement but seems to be in v odd position, kind of diagonal!
