  • Can't believe the sonographer snapped at someone just for asking - not for him/her to make a judgement. I can imagine someone asking at the beginning just so it's 'on record' that they want to know and the sonographer doesn't need to remember to keep quiet if s/he sees anything. Can't be many prospective parents that only care about the sex! We asked part way through in a casual 'while you're down there' kind of way :D

I think it's appalling that a sonographer would snap at parents for wanting to know the sex of the baby - it's obvious enough that everyone wants a healthy one, so I don't see why you'd have to specify that to placate someone who should know better.

All your calculator stuff makes my head hurt. I'm getting Husband to do the financial stuff. For the moment we're living on his salary while I halve mine and throw it either at buying baby stuff or at the credit card. I'm still paying for my student groceries with Barclaycard, sadly - the last few months were an absolute nightmare and the interest is horrific.

It turns out that I can buy ten reusables in Germany for the cost of 15 reusables and a nursing vest in the UK AND get 5% cashback. So that is what I've done, and my poor parents will be bringing a GIANT SUITCASE!!!!!! of stuff when they come over. I'm rather pleased with myself, although I'm going to consider using disposables at night and I need to learn what the German word for "disposable nappy liner" is.

As for finding out the sex, I was just reading on something (maybe babycentre.co.uk?) that as so many people want to know these days that if you don't want to know it's best to mention that straight away.

I don't want to find out the sex although OH does. I think I will win this one though he he! I'm kind of hoping Tic Tac has his / her legs crossed so even if we get a glimpse of that area we won't be able to see anything!

SJ why not explain that to the sonographer and look away when they get to the relevant parts? Then it's down to your OH to keep the secret, and that's the price he has to pay for knowing ;)

No I don't want him to know! He can't hold his own pee so I know that he'd let slip (probably on purpose) to his mum, she'd prob tell the rest of his family, he'd slip up with a couple of freinds and before you knew it it'd be just me that didn't know and that's not really the point! I want it to be a surprise for everyone when it's born. Maybe it's old fashioned but I'd always imaged the birth being a special moment and then the famous words "it's a boy / girl"
  • Sorry aless - head hurt! I think it's because I don't have all the info I need - it's at home and I'm at work. Will try again later! I have printed bits and and pieces out from HM Rev & Customs calculations.

A lot of hospitals dont tell you as some people prefer boys and are absolutley not interested in girls watsoever. I think it depends on the diversity of the place where you come from. I've seen it in hospitals where boys are worshipped and where the women who have had girls have no visitors at all. Shameful.

I didnt find out the sex with ds1, i swore he was a she..ds2 I wasnt bothered but found at the scan, ds3 swore he was a girl until the scan told me otherwise , I cried my heart out but soon was more than overjoyed , ds4 i really wasnt bothered but found out anyway and this one Number 5.. found out at the scan she said "i think its a girl" ..i made this gasping sound and everyone looked at me ! ...then we had a 4d just to make doubly sure...i still dont believe it I'm having a girl, im delighted but i even would be with a boy as its OH's first.

I think its nice to find out though so you can name them and think of them as a person not just a baby

SW I feel the opposite! Lol! I want to keep thinking of them as a baby until they are born, then I can decide on a name once they're here. I want to enjoy the pregnancy for a pregnancy, and the enjoy the baby as a little person once he's out and breathing IYSWIM! not saying my point of view is the right one for everyone, but that's how I look at it.
