kindofagilr - We just had the cotbed when DS was born (he's 3 now and using it as a bed). We do have a moses basket for this one, but mainly because we have moved to a house with an upstairs, and we like the convenience of having a place for him to sleep upstairs and downstairs (we were in a bungalow when DS was born, so no stairs). It wasn't a necessity by any means, more of a convenience for us. It's entirely up to you whether or not you want or need one. A number of people here have gotten them secondhand, practically new, as they aren't used for very long - usually just a few months or so, depending on the size of the baby. If you're looking to keep the money down, you can easily get by with a cotbed only - that's what we did with DS and had no problems.

Kind, we have a moses basket so that we can have bubs downstairs during the day, we will also use it at night so that he is in the same rooms as us for the first few weeks - we can't fit the cot in our bedroom. Cribs are lovely, but again baby isn't in them for very long either...I suppose it's down to personal preference.

Fingers crossed things have progressed for Skinty - or that things are calming down until hubby makes it back from London :)

I am so annoyed! how can people be so stupid? Yet annother parent has swine flu from our pre-school ( unbeknown to the staff and ourselves) and she has still been bringing that child to school. She was there yesterday and i have just had a phone call from the manager saying that not to come and bring ds this week. She is telling all pg mums to stay away. I am meant to be looking after one of the other children today so i have had to let his mum down and now she can't go to work. I wouldn't mind but friday is there last day and they have a party and do a presentation which i really don't want to miss. He missed all of last week because he had chicken pox now he is missing all this week. i don't know what to do about friday.

Thanks a lot triggles and newmoneysaver.

That helps, becasue I was all like eek do I need all this stuff lol.

Also good to know baby can sleep in moses basket in parents room as well, cos OH and I were trying to think where cot would go in our room? there is space as such but it wouldnt be against a wall if that makes sense?

But I like the idea of having a moses basket for downstairs and the cot for upstairs.

Can you help me with one more thing? my friend had this chair bouncy thing (I am great and describing things arent I lol) the baby would lay in it and you could bounce it/rock it what is that called?

It might be easier to ask my friend what it was called wouldnt it lol

As far as i am aware she has been told not to come back until sept now so we know it is someone who has a younger child that isn't starting school in sept but both parents that have swine flu knew they had it and came all last week and bought the kids, they thought it was ok as the kids didn't have it, Dump or what! One of the teachers is also pg and has been told to go on mat leave early.

Not only have these parents infected the pre-school but they also have older kids at the primary school and have spread it there too. If the pre-school closes i won't feel to bad about it, but if everyone else gets there presentation and my ds doesn't i will be so upset. It's not even the fact that i can't go and see it but he won't be able to go incase he gets it and gives it to me. I think i will keep him off untill friday then ring the manager to see what she thinks if i have to stand there is mask and gloves then i will.

Elasti - I really don't know how people can put others at risk just because it probably easier form them to send little one to school

Kind, - you can get a bouncy type chair - like this- this is the one I have and it vibrates and plays music, or you can get swinging chairs - like this - There are so many out there, again it would just be personal preference.

kindaofa - I'm glad there's other 1st timers asking loads of questions, too! I felt like I had a question every 2 minutes when I first got pregnant, lol. Just to add that a lot of people have been picking up Moses baskets for next-to-nothing at car boot sales or even Freecycle so for the £5/10 you might as well get one and then sell/pass it on when the baby outgrows it in a few months!

The other thing you're talking about is called a bouncer and I have quite a lot of people tell me they are a godsend for keeping baby happy! Prolly another thing you can pick up for pennies at a car boot sale.

FYI - Argos are doing 15% of all baby stuff right now (home delivery only)!

Unfortunately Elasti some people really are that stupid or they could even be selfish wanting some quiet time whilst they are ill by sending the kids to school not realising the danger they are putting everyone else in it sounds like the school are being very active in its management of the situation though so that is a blessing in one way.

AS for the presentation i shouldnt worry to much just make sure your child knows how proud you are of them anyway and have a little celerbration at home if needs be my son missed his so we had a family meal and had his certificate put in a frame for him so he felt really special.
