Carolt, it is that much in winter, not as much in summer obviously. I was lucky enough to get a £60 cold weather payment this year which was less than fortnight's worth of gas, never mind the electricity bill. I used to enjoy the summer as it meant I could eat properly :-)
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

If you come back for a masochistic peek, bear in mind that some here do have sympathy for the sick and the unemployed and some of us struggle with our finances too and wouldn't cope in your situation - but the system as it stands now is broken and needs a serious rethink so that those who really need help get it and those who dont or wont, do not.

    Hi, Singlesue.

It's good to hear of another success story. You're right about stress and pressure not making situations any easier. I'm not saying all depression can be cured with a good "kick up the backside" and PND is definately in that category. As you pointed out, for some sufferers it's difficult to get out of bed and face the cold light of day. I buried my head in books for 18 months to help cope with life, but I was single with no children, finding it hard to live on benefits and had no motivation to carry on. The puppy helped no end with that, and now every single morning I have a fantastic happy cute little reason to get out of bed and I love it. No one who knew my story would deny I have had a lot to cope with and occasionally people marvel at the fact that I'm still here. My OH thinks I'm the bravest person on the planet and it's that kind of support I've needed my whole life.

I am only 31 years old, and was first on Valium at the age of 7. mgba9pgf, are you going to tell the world that all depression sufferes bring it on themselves and they should all get off their lazy butts and do some work? I still suffer with mental health problems but depression isn't one of them!

And I don't work because I have 2 brain tumours, as well as asthma, Post traumatic Stress Disorder and an eating disorder and the medication I take for my Epilepsy (3 times a day) makes me more ill than any of my conditions. Does that put me in the category of being a waster who needs to find a job??

Good luck singlesue, I wish you all the best for your life and your studying, and the stroppy teenager! :-)

This isn't a good enough reason not to work

That's shocking - I pay a fraction of that for a family of 5 - how big is your house? I know metering can add to the cost, but not that much, surely - and I thought that was being cracked down on anyway.

I find this quite literally unbelievable.

I totally agree and like you have huge sympathy for the genuinely sick/disabled - and like you less than none for the workshy.

Someone with the ailments Screamer has described would definitely deserve our sympathy; there's still no reason for them not to avail themselves of the wonderful advice available on this site and work to reduce their fuel bill, though. It sounds like that could make a huge difference to their life if it means they can afford to eat.

In the midst of winter (the cold snap), my gas token meter was costing around £20 a week...and that was for 2 hours in the evening and 2 hours in the morning, when I extended it to 3 hours in the evening it went up to the near £30 that week. The rest of the time we spent with quilts etc wrapped around us, going to bed I was putting extra blankets over the quilts too scared to put the heating on even though we could see our breath at times in the house.

Edit - We would spend a lot of time at my parents where there is constant heat and as little time as possible here!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Donald Tramp, you're an ignorant idiot!

No I'm not, i'm actually very intelligent. What level of education did you acheive? Tertiary, Secondary or Primary:rolleyes:?

This "government" you are speaking about, this big nasty state, is actually the collection of wills of the people in the UK.
At least it is supposed to be. Clown just seems to do whatever he can to spend all of our cash and future generations cash. But I digress.

Don't people on the "take" or in receipt of benefits realise that is is the goodwill, money and hardwork of others that is feeding/clothing/housing them and allowing them to breed??

This "nasty" governemnt is actually EVERYONE else!!
Benefits claimants survive off the back of hard work of other people.
This is what irks me. It's just, "I'm entitled to this," "I'm entitled to that" without any realisation (or thanks for) the goodwill of other people.
    It's an absolute disgrace.

Have a read at this quote from Margaret Thatcher.....
    Then get back to me

"I think we've been through a period where too many people have been given to understand that if they have a problem, it's the government's job to cope with it. 'I have a problem, I'll get a grant.' 'I'm homeless, the government must house me.' They're casting their problem on society. And you know, there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It's our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbour. People have got the entitlements too much in mind, without the obligations. There's no such thing as entitlement, unless someone has first met an obligation."

If you have been judged to have enough money, what more do you want,
    Some of mine:rolleyes:?

£250 a month for bills? are you having a laugh?

Sorry but you're obviously not as "entitled" to our money as much as you thought you were, eh?
