When do you register? The Scottish Government offers a guarantee scheme that might be worth looking at - it's not that well broadcast!

    scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2008/09/16110602/1

There are four temporary posts at the PRM in Neonatal although it asks for 2 years post registration experience - I know someone who got a job as a newly qualified despite asking for experience (this was nursing mind, not midwifery).

If none of these aren't successful, you could not register and apply for a midwifery assistants job. There are 7 (yes SEVEN) at the PRM.

However, upon searching English NHS jobs site. There is an advert for County Durham for 9 midwives.

    jobs.nhs.uk/cgi-bin/vacdetails.cgi?selection=912298578

EDITED TO ADD: On NHS jobs site try searching for North East and North West for more results. There's pure millions! (exaggeration - but more than you think!)

Have you ever thought of maternity nursing...what happens is you work 6 days a week...live in someones house and no rent or bills to pay. They have just had a baby and you are basically their live in nanny...but for newborns. Most of the placements are in London...but accomadation wouldn't be a cost.

They are really well paid and tend to be short term contracts...sometimes 2 weeks or upto a couple of months.

You register with an agency...I have never done this work...I just heard good things about it. People pay really well for it...especially if you can get a house with twins or triplets.

Good luck with the Job hunting...its not all London...check out the northwest...their are jobs coming up their too...off and on...we just took on 3 at my hospital and I know a few others have left us and gone elsewhere locally.

Hi Scared1, thanks for the post. I'll certainly look into what you suggest, sadly many of the posts require post registration experience which sadly I don't have. I have applied anyway for a few of these, but had letters back directing me to the person specification! Will keep you all up to date - my father in law just gave me his BA miles to pay for my flight for the London interview.:D

Hi PMarsh, thanks for the post. My registration should come through around second week in October - I'm becoming incredibly impatient! I know about the one year guarantee program, but I need to prove I have applied for 3 appropriate posts before I will qualify for this (so it is in the back of my mind somewhere!).

I didn't know about the Midwifery Assistant posts at PRM - where are they advertised? The only problem with that is that they are likely to be permanent posts and when they notice my qualification they will realise I'm not looking at it as a career move me thinks! Will certainly try to find out more about it thanks.

I did see the posts for Co. Durham but the person spec states 2 years post reg experience is essential. I had applied for a few posts like this and received letters back referring me back to the person spec:p. Will keep plugging away!

Thanks PMarsh, just had a look. The posts are temp for 4 months which should coincide with new posts for midwives once the move to 2 units is complete. I might be able to get away with applying for these! That's my plans for today!

Can't afford to transfer anything into my F&F pot today . Just realised my husband's account has £175 in bank charges due off over the next 7 days. Its all because he changed jobs and had to do a week's lying time again.. Thankfully we have enough in the account to cover the charges without going overdrawn. Think I will be sending an updated list of charges to BoS for consideration under our hardship claim.
